Time Magazine Writer Crams Climate Change 'Catastrophe' Lines Into Piece on Developing Countries

Time magazine's Brian Walsh couldn't write up a story on the need for more electricity in developing countries without shoe-horning in a dire warning about climate change.

In a January 31st story entitled "Building a Country by Switching on the Lights," Walsh initially warned readers that in addition to the problems of fighting malaria and improving infrastructure that there was "a blind spot that does more than almost anything to keep the poor poor: they don't have electric power" but he then gravely added: "At the same time, the reality of climate change means that even the developing world needs to look for cleaner sources of energy because Western-style growth driven by fossil fuels could lead to catastrophe."

Later on, in his January 31st piece, Walsh celebrated "ample funding" was available for clean energy projects in the developing world thanks to Europe and Japan "still operating under the Kyoto Protocol and need to purchase carbon credits."

Ample funding available for green energy projects?

Submitted by Galvanic on Tue, 02/01/2011 - 2:41pm.

Find it!  That would be an interesting TIME article:  Tracking all the carbon-credit money from Kyoto to see when and how it was spent.

Maybe Gore can help --- he's in on the scam.

The disaster i see coming is

Submitted by jkwtrading on Tue, 02/01/2011 - 2:56pm.

The disaster i see coming is occurring already but it man attempt to micro mange the entire world.  The implosion occurring that this liberal writer misses is himself and all other liberals.

They finaly after 90 years cannot stand on a single accomplishment in their favor.

I suspect soon before the year is out so will almost be all the liberals..all nice and neatly imploded.

I think the commies need to come up with a new scare...

Submitted by Dave. on Tue, 02/01/2011 - 5:27pm.

...in order to bring about their global government slavery plans, as I don't think the AGW scam is working for them all that well.

And they'd better hurry, too, else the 7th Century, pre-Marxian commie camel-washers are going to beat them to it, and then convert, enslave, or kill all the post-Marxian commies.

"...Western-style growth

Submitted by forest on Tue, 02/01/2011 - 5:26pm.

"...Western-style growth driven by fossil fuels could lead to catastrophe."

Or the more likely result of western-style growth driven by fossil fuels would be higher living standards, longer life expectancy, lower infant mortality, higher levels of literacy, greater individual liberties and civil rights etc ...

Exactly.  What the Left

Submitted by trak65 on Tue, 02/01/2011 - 6:23pm.

Exactly.  What the Left almost always fails to discuss is any kind of cost benefit analysis.  Even if MMGW is 100% undisputable, are lower carbon emissions so priceless as to warrant keeping the poor in poverty?  The one thing the reporter get right is that energy = prosperity.  Maybe we'll find out they were right about rising oceans and we'll need to move a few huts to higher ground, or build some dykes like in the Netherlands.  Meanwhile, cheap fossil fuels will be the fastest way to raise living standards for everyone.
