Matthews: John Boehner Wants to Treat the Earth Like His Ashtray
Chris Matthews, on Thursday's Hardball, assailed Republican Congressman John Boehner for, in his view, trashing the planet because the soon-to-be Speaker of the House announced the slashing of the House committee on global warming. Making fun of his smoking habit the MSNBC host derisively theorized that Boehner was going to treat the "whole planet" like he does his "ashtray."
The following Matthews outburst was aired during the "Sideshow" segment on the December 2 edition of Hardball:

CHRIS MATTHEWS: Don't expect much House debate next year over climate change. Republicans just announced that they're eliminating, altogether, the House Select Committee on Energy Independence and Global Warming. John Boehner put out a statement saying, the move was part of his pledge of quote, 'reducing waste and duplication in Congress.' Well let's just treat the whole planet, why not, like John Boehner does his ashtray?
Incidentally this is the second day in row that Matthews has slammed Republicans for their environmental views. Yesterday, as Newsbusters' Noel Sheppard blogged, he laughingly accused some of them of being Luddites.

Anyone looking across the full spectrum of Federal departments and agencies finds duplication of effort and lack of clear lines of authority.
Pelosi's committee was designed to show the Left that she was serious, but it raised the point you made: What about DoE? Thirty years later, we're no better off.
Since the creation of DoE, we've not developed alternative energy sources it was tasked to find.
Likewise, since the creation of the Dept of Education, the amount of money (in constant $$$) the US spends per pupil has doubled, but the test results have flatlined and dipped slightly. And we're told we need to spend more money.
There are great cost savings to be had in merely eliminating the ineffective departments and holding people accountable.

Well cheer up, Prissy, because despite what happened in the last election, I still think it's 50/50 that you and your fellow commies will ultimately prevail, as the damage to America has become just too much to repair.
