Obama Labor Dept. Insists Illegal Aliens Must Get Paid Legal Wages
The U.S. Department of Labor told CNSNews.com in a written statement on Wednesday that it will enforce the federal wage laws on behalf of anyone working in the United States “regardless of their immigration status.” The statement was in response to a written question from CNSNews.com.
The written statement backed up a video statement that Labor Secretary Hilda Solis made to CNSNews.com on Monday in which she indicated that “partnership” agreements she had signed that day with a group of Latin American countries will obligate the U.S. government to protect the working conditions for both “documented and undocumented” migrant laborers here in the United States. (See earlier story.)
The Labor Department’s determination to make U.S. employers treat illegal aliens taking jobs in the United States as if they were U.S citizens or legal immigrants seems to contradict the Immigration and Nationality Act. That act says “employers may hire only persons who may legally work in the United States (i.e., citizens and nationals of the U.S.) and aliens authorized to work in the U.S.” and that the U.S. government “protects U.S. citizens and aliens authorized to accept employment in the U.S. from discrimination in hiring or discharge on the basis of national origin and citizenship status.”
After being unable to get a question into Solis or another Labor Department official during a conference call the Labor Department held with reporters on Wednesday, CNSNews.com followed up with a question sent to the Labor Department via e-mail.
The question was: “Will the Department of Labor enforce existing law under the Immigration and Nationality Act that says ‘employers may hire only persons who may legally work in the United States (i.e. citizens and nationals of the U.S.) and aliens authorized to work in the U.S.?’”
A Department of Labor official responded: “The WHD [Wage and Hour Division] administers and enforces the law for all workers employed in the United States, regardless of their immigration status.”
On Monday, Labor Secretary Solis had signed “partnerships” with Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic and El Salvador to protect the rights of “migrant” workers in the United States.
During the signing ceremony, Solis said, “No matter how you got here or how long you plan to stay, you have certain rights. You have the right to be safe and in a healthy workplace and the right to a legal wage. We gather here today to strengthen our shared commitment to protect the labor rights of migrant workers in the United States. Unfortunately, due to language barriers and immigration status, migrant workers can be those that are most vulnerably abused.”
After the signing ceremony, CNSNews.com asked Solis: “Both documented and undocumented workers will be protected under U.S. labor laws?”
“It has always been the case under previous Republican as well as Democratic administrations,” Solis answered. “All we’re doing is enforcing the law and we’re allowing for other individual groups and partnerships with other consulate offices to work with us in expanding our reach in information. What we’re trying to avoid is that vulnerable communities be abused and that there be an increase in more underground activity, economic activity that goes untapped, those monies that are being paid to workers.”
Before signing the “partnerships” with Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic and El Salvador on Monday, Solis had already signed similar partnerships to with the governments of Mexico, Nicaragua and Guatemala to protect migrant workers in the U.S. from those countries. Solis indicated on Monday that she was also “pursuing accords with governments from South East Asia and others in the Caribbean.”

So, if our "family" can find them to protect their rights, ...

... would it axing too much for them to deport the illegal ones?
When the history of the rise and fall of the American Empire is written, the conclusion will be that our electorate was comprised of a majority of morons who elected fellow morons to run this great nation into the ground.
Only one man got Obama to tell the truth during his campaign; Joe the Plumber. Remember when Bambi told him that He was going to fundamentally transform this country, and to do that would necessarily require "a, ahhh, ughhh transfer of wealth!"
And some of you voted for Him anyway?
This will open up a whole "field of law."

Does this mean all the upside

Does this mean all the upside to hiring illegal workers in the first place will be going away?
I'm just thinking this MIGHT not be completely bad.
I agree

Make illegals just as expensive and possibly litigious as legal residents and that removes almost all of the incentive to bother with hiring illegals.
While pandering to the illegals the obama administration may have just shot themselves in the foot.
My first thought as well.

My first thought as well. Just one problem, we're still left with a law-breaking regime that must GO! The examples of which are too numerous to list completely, but the claim from Gibson guitars CEO that he was told all his "problems would go away if he outsourced to foreign labor." is just one recent example.
Of course Hildabeast Solis

Of course Hildabeast Solis secured reciprocation from Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic and El Salvador, Mexico, Nicaragua and Guatemala to protect migrant workers in those countries as well, the major concern of all being to protect human life no matter the geographic location.
She did that, right?
Next on the agenda... Solis secures signed treatises from the afore mentioned countries that they treat their illegal alien population the same as the USA does.
It's not a two way street, strat

At least not in Costa Rica.
As an ex-pat in CR, you can start your own business. But you cannot hire, nor be hired, as a resident (legal) alien without a monstrous major hoop jump. Nor may you hire non-Costa Ricans in your business.
That's fair, right?

I don't have an issue with CR law. Nor do I have issue with Mexico's particularly tough laws on illegals in general, illegal and legal aliens employment, business ownership or property ownership.
I do have an issue with Solis pleasing foreign nations with unilateral agreements that are unnecessary. There are plenty of laws already on the books concerning these issues. Also, there was no reason to appease foreign states, especially those nations who will use this agreement against us to help ensure American dollars flow back to their respective countries from illegal aliens in the US.
Whatever our southern neighbors care to do concerning aliens is up to them. It's their country. I just wish the Left weren't so damned determined to give ours away or submit in a ploy to eventually, incrementally, backdoor illegals' citizenship in this country.
This makes it official: Democrats are completely full of crap

How many times has a Democrat claimed that 'undocumented immigrants' (P.C. BS-speak for illegal alien) making sub-minimum wages are an essential part of our economy that benefits everyone? Once again, a standard Democrat Party assertion completely implodes.
I would think even the most die-hard loyal Democrat has to question an action that completely contradicts one of the most deeply ingrained Dem talking points.
Then again, this IS the same party that gave us legislation such as the Affordable Care Act and the Employee Free-Choice Act, which are both THE EXACT OPPOSITE of what they say they are.
Democrats are exceptionally full of crap, even by politician standards.
Progressives seem to be completely averse to facts and logic. Apparently, reality has a conservative bias.
The silver lining

While this is obviously a crass and cynical means of attracting more illegals (not to mention, buy hispanic votes), it would effectively destroy any incentive businesses would have to hire illegals in the first place, and may ultimately help stem the tide of illegals hemorrhaging into this country.

Why can't the Obama Labor Department insist that---

ILLEGAL ALIENS be found, incarcerated, fined, and deported?
Or would that be too law-abiding for these a** wipes in the Federal government?
Maybe the ILLEGALS could talk their stateside representatives, employees of the U.S. DOJ, into formulating a lawsuit against the State of Arizona for trying to deal with ILLEGALS on behalf of Arizona's United States citizens.

The vacations, the cronyism,
Submitted by ant on Thu, 09/01/2011 - 11:23pm.
The vacations, the cronyism, the coddling of illegals while going after the 'Joe the Plumbers' of the country, the 70% increase in government limousines, the increasing wealth of Obama, Pelosi, etc., the race-baiting, the calls to "punish our enemies", the spending (even to terrorist groups), operation Fast and Furious, the DOJ raid and shut-down of two of Gibson's guitar factories, and on....and on...and on....
How much are we expected to put up with? I've seriously had enough of this contemptible administration!!
