Obama Blames ‘Splintered’ News Media for Lack of Compromise in Washington

By Fred Lucas | July 25, 2011 | 14:26

In the midst of a showdown over how the government will increase the debt ceiling by Aug. 2, President Barack Obama blamed a splintered news media for lack of compromise between the parties and stressed that President Abraham Lincoln believed in compromise.

Obama spoke to a packed Ritchie Coliseum at the University of Maryland Friday as part of a town hall meeting promoting what he called a “balanced approach” to reducing the federal deficit – which he believes includes increasing taxes on high earners along with cuts.

In response to a question, the president talked about the merits of compromise before saying the media shoulders much of the blame.

“You’ve got a media that has become much more splintered,” Obama said. “So those of you who are of a Democratic persuasion are only reading The New York Times and watching MSNBC and if you are on the right, then you’re only reading the Wall Street Journal editorial page and watching Fox News.”

Oh I have no doubt he would prefer a "unified" media (preferably centrally planned).

The whining of our National Narcissist

Submitted by Galvanic on Mon, 07/25/2011 - 7:52pm.

That's right, Mr. President. This has nothing to do with your lack of leadership and your reckless agenda.

It's all due to media that offer opposing views.

Do us a favor, Mr. President. Go play golf for a few days, and when you come back, sign whatever they shove in front of you.

You're not part of the solution: you're the problem.

It'll never happen

Submitted by jon_torlin on Mon, 07/25/2011 - 2:52pm.

The day will NEVER happen if he ever accepts responsibility for anything that he's done, that he screwed up(on purpose), that he's the worst potus ever.

As I'm sure Doc Sam can attest to, his is the personality that he will never change his ways and that he'll keep plugging away at what HE wants no matter what.

Funny how he calls the media "splintered" when it's Fox News versus everyone else on the TV side.  But when his own detractors start to leave him, he blames them as well.

And I would never accuse WSJ of being on the right.

He's gonna lose it, one of these days.  Not weeks, DAYS.  Unlike his prediction with Libya.

He has 18 more months as President and only 15 months to Nov. 2012 - I don't think he's going to make it without a complete breakdown/major "career-ending" hissy-fit."

Can we add the word "Arrogant?"

Submitted by packman on Mon, 07/25/2011 - 6:32pm.

That would make him a ignorant & arrogant buffoon...

You know, if you look at the definition of "buffoon," it really says a lot about our prez.

BUFFOON: A ludicrous or bumbling person; a fool; a clown, a jester: a person who amuses others by tricks, jokes, odd gestures and postures; a ludicrous figure: CLOWN

Gee, kinda says it all, doesn't it?

for Obamao, the people might actaully watch them. Liberals have been reduced to running in circles screaming with their dresses up over their heads. They have nothing left and it's only going to get worse over the next 15 months. Hang tough, America. We WILL take our country back!

This is beautiful...

Submitted by PJRyan on Mon, 07/25/2011 - 5:58pm.

I'm picturing NYT and MSNBC saying "hey, we weren't going to ever admit to that!!"

I'm picturing Stephanopoulos, Schiefer, and Gregory with office doors closed, lips quivering, because they didn't get a shout-out.

And Jon Stewart thinking, "Dude!!, I just made a claim that those guys are just lazy and incompetent, not biased!!"

A Stupid Man Is Running America

Submitted by Avitar on Mon, 07/25/2011 - 4:32pm.

About the media he is right. At the height of media consolidation in 1964 any story could be covered up. The media was covering up Supreme Court impeachment sponsored by Jerry Ford as House Minority Leader and a call for a New Constitutional Convention that came within two states and a couple of dozen legislatures of overthrowing the current Government.
The Constitutional call was structured around the Dirksen amendment which in fact still remains in effect in many states and I think that just four states would be required to call a new convention and dissolve the current Government.
The media is slowly splintering but the fortress has not fallen yet. Until somebody starts talking about the thousand foot glaciers that stand over us the media has not fractured. Many of the executive orders and Supreme Court decisions are not sustainable in a free society and we will either erase them from history or pass into tyranny.

Lincoln believed in compromise?

Submitted by freecitizen on Tue, 07/26/2011 - 7:25am.

Lincoln was a compromiser? He literally waged war on half the country. Oh wait, now I get why Obama likes him so much.

Liberal: remove all that's Right, and this is what's Left.

Lincoln immediately came to mind also when I heard Obama puke that line out last night.

I was also thinking up what other great compromisers might have said like,  "Give me liberty, or give me cancer!"
