GLAAD Rejects Comedic Actor Vince Vaughn's Defense of 'Gay' Joke
The Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation isn't backing down when it comes to bullying its way into protected-class status. The gay advocacy group has rejected actor Vince Vaughn’s defense of using the term “gay” to describe electric cars in his yet-to-be released movie, “The Dilemma.” According to the Hollywood Reporter, a post on the official GLAAD website rebutted, “Vince is right. Comedy does bring us together, unless one of us is the punchline. Then it pushes us apart.”
Last week the Culture and Media Institute reported that Vaughn defended his character’s use of the term “gay” by saying, “Comedy and joking about our differences breaks tension and brings us together.”
Universal pictures responded to pressure from GLAAD last week, and pulled the “controversial scene” from trailers for the movie “The Dilemma” which opens on Januray 14. On National “Coming Out” day last Wednesday, GLAAD's website issued a press release calling on supporters to urge Universal to scrap the scene from the movie entirely.
GLAAD is effectively calling for gays to achieve the status as an untouchable class of individuals, in which the group can mandate acceptance by determining what can and cannot be said about gay people. If “tolerance” is GLAAD’s goal, demanding censorship from Hollywood would seem counterproductive.
It remains to be seen if Hollywood and the media will greet GLAAD’s calls to expunge the scene with the same derision it hurls at Christians who find some material objectionable.

Why is it that when the Mahre/Colberts fo the world rag on the right we're told to "lighten up - it's comedy" but when it's GLAADs ox that gets gored they're entitled to be offended? Maybe they should have gotten in a snit over SNL mocking Palin.

To the left, Colbert and Maher are OK, because they speak truth to power. (Forgive me, I have to pause to let the nausea pass for having used that phrase.)
They're willing to allow liberal comedians to take utter cheap shots without retaliation, because they approve the message. But they'll squash any message that opposes theirs.
Comedy is only allowed when it bashes conservatives.

I would never have expected that. Good for him, but I still think he's a mediocre actor and has no flair for comedy. Just my opinion.
Back to the topic at hand. He's catching trouble because he called an electric car gay? GLAAD is gonna have a tough time fighting against everyone who says that. It shows them to be weak-willed cowards every time they jump on the smallest perceived slight against them. It takes a great deal of self-importance to believe that you are not allowed to be the butt of any jokes based on choices you make.

Just as NOW gives the Jerry Brown campaign a pass on the whore reference, GLAAD seems to select its targets for open attack. They probably bribe the others for contributions under threat of publicity attack.
Similary, I've never heard the NAACP or the Rainbow/PUSH Coalition scold Chris Rock for his stand-up bit called "Black People and Niggers." The gist of his bit is that he (Rock) hates "niggers" because they fit the worst of the stereotypes -- stereotypes that the Race Industry insists are baseless -- yet Rock gets his audience cheering and roaring with laughter. A few Race Industry elites have finally begun to criticize the use of the word nigger in comedy bits and rap songs, but I 've neither seen nor heard them single out specific entertainers for attack.

I may vomit. When did it become okay for one group of people to take a word and appropriate it for their own personal use, and no one else can have it? I hate to tell GLAAD, but people today use the word gay to mean stupid. There's a whole commentary there, but I'll leave it alone. Meanwhile, are we not allowed to talk about the gay nineties anymore, for fear of offending? It's a word. We get to use words all the time, and people need to get a spine, get over themselves, and get on with their lives. They're just using this as an excuse to get some news time and whine about their lot in life.
