Rep. West Blasts Media for 'Being Afraid' to Report Job-killing of Obama Policies

By Elizabeth Harrington | November 16, 2011 | 12:20

Congressman Allen West (R-Fla.) called on the media to “stop being afraid” of President Barack Obama who is “destroying this country.” West made his remarks on Tuesday at a press conference in support of the TransCanada Keystone XL pipeline.

“It’s about time that I asked this from the media: Stop being afraid of this president,” said Rep. West. “Stand up to him and call him out on the shirking of his duties and responsibilities. The House Republicans are passing pieces of legislation, after pieces of legislation about jobs.”[see video at CNSNews.com]

“And here we got a president that’s gone off to Australia, playing golf in Hawaii, and you guys allow him to make this decision to shut down this Keystone XL project,” said West. “The media needs to call out this president and stop coming over here to the House Republicans and telling us what we’re not doing. We’re the ones taking action. The guy sitting at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue is destroying this country.”

The 1,661-mile, $7-billion pipeline, which would run from Alberta, Canada south to U.S. refineries on the Gulf Coast, was under review by the State Department until last week when President Obama announced that a decision on whether to approve the project would be postponed until early 2013. The White House said it wanted to consider a new route for the pipeline.

The Keystone project, if approved, would have created an estimated 20,000 jobs.

“This is the most important thing we have to understand, America needs leadership right now and America does not have that,” said Rep. West on Tuesday.

“America needs a commander in chief, instead we have a campaigner in chief, and that’s exactly what continues to happen,” said West.  “Whether it’s the decision to go to zero troops in Iraq, which gives a green light to Iran, or whether it’s the decision to shut down what you have heard is a win-win situation for the United States of America and for a new trading partner, which is Canada.”

“We cannot continue to send the hard-earned American taxpayer dollars to OPEC -- nothing but despot dictators, autocrats and theocrats,” West said.

“For 22 years I served in the United States Military and I’ve been on the battlefields in the Middle East, where the funds we are sending to these countries are in turn being turned on our young men and women in combat,” said the congressman.

“It’s about time that I asked this from the media: Stop being afraid of this president.  Stand up to him and call him out on the shirking of his duties and responsibilities.  The House Republicans are passing pieces of legislation, after pieces of legislation about jobs.”

At the press conference, other House Republicans criticized the president’s decision on the pipeline, saying it was politically motivated to push it past the 2012 election. Two groups of Obama's political base, unions and environmentalists, are divided over the issue.

Many of the jobs the pipeline would create would go to union workers, including the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, which is headed by Obama-supporter James P. Hoffa.

At the press conference led by Rep. Tim Griffin, (R-Ark.), the lawmakers said delaying the pipeline would cost 20,000 jobs, and warned against losing Canadian crude oil production to China.

Here's a site for you to bookmark....there's a whole "Allen West" section at the bottom....where his "greatest hits" are.

That reminds me, I have a "Go West" bumper sticker that needs to be affixed to the XTerra....back in a sec!

I knew it couldn't have been by much. I'm usually behind the power curve on responses. Work, (my job) and my new small business interferes way more than I feel it should. But hey at least I am contributing to society on more than one front. (Hint Hint there "Occupy")

"Obama's Gaffes and Goofs ~ Currently Numbering 103" ??? No way. He couldn't possibly have goofed that little. You're missing a few numbers, like 103,000,000, and that's just for one year and not counting the Biden fool who's good for millions of his own, though Pelosi & Reid are in stiff competition in this foursome race.

Not Afraid Congressmen,

Submitted by John21 on Wed, 11/16/2011 - 12:52pm.

Not Afraid Congressmen, accomplices.

You are under the mis-impression that they have a desire to report the truth, they do not. They will do as they need to support their far left agenda on America, and their desire to keep the elitist nature of a journalist.

Your mistake is uinderstandable reporters, report the news based on facts and evidence. Journalist report the news based on their desires and hopes, facts and evidence is not a necessary ingredient. Actually their are undesired.

This is why in every news outlet you cannot find anyone admitting that they are reporters but they will all claim to be journalist.

Mr West hit the nail on the

Submitted by helomech on Wed, 11/16/2011 - 1:06pm.

Mr West hit the nail on the head here. The fawning media just sit there with a glazed look on their faces, waiting for the Annointed One to return stateside and hashing it out on holiday in Asia-known as Hawaii, the 57th state-and Down Under....waiting to be told what to say and how to say it. And give softball interviews to the Leftists who call themselves 'leaders'..

I was called a bigot for reciting my hate against the Lib mainstream media. Well, this story here about the inaction of the media is why I feel the way I do.

That bigot remark was by one of the Lib Trolls on this site. I'm sure they'll respond..... :-D

It's not fear of Obama, it's collusion.

Submitted by OldBB on Wed, 11/16/2011 - 1:18pm.

The press may be free but it's nowhere near unbiased. The media (in general) are leftist hacks totally in the pockets of leftist politicians. They not only pick their own leftist candidates, they pick the easiest to defeat of the opposition.
The real villains here are the media.

Rep West...

Saw him speak at a Republican meeting down here in Broward Co., FL.

He is an impressive speaker (no teleprompter!) who threw out all sorts of allusions to Alexander the Great, Stonewall Jackson and Patton.

He is a hardheaded realist and patriot. He will go far. This country needs him to go far.

Telling it like it is

Submitted by Dukehoopsfan on Wed, 11/16/2011 - 6:17pm.

Way to go Mr. West. That was right between their eyes. Unfortunately I think that the old media are too far gone to respond responsibly. Please keep up the good fight. The republicans in congress and the senate should flood the media with daily press conferences on what you are going right and what the current administration is doing wrong.

Keep slapping them around. Call them out on Solyndra, insider trading, unions, fast and furious, and more. When you get interviewed by one of the mainstream old media do not participate in their kabuki theatre. Change the topic, call them out, challenge them to call it both ways.

Remember the old line attributed to Knute Rockne ... "we're gonna hit 'em, hit 'em again, and then hit 'em some more".
