The rumors that members of the liberal elitist media sucked up to President Barack Obama to get jobs in the new administration just might be true. Some major players from the media have recently taken jobs in the administration or other plum political jobs in Washington, DC. Most notably these media elite are CNN's Sanjay Gupta, Jay Carney former Time magazine Washington Bureau chief and Douglas Frantz former Managing Editor for the Los Angeles Times are among others who have found that magic revolving door between media and politics these days.
The New York Times of all publications has actually laid out this turn of events in what some might describe as a mea culpa of sorts for the rest of the liberal media establishment:
WASHINGTON - Republicans have long accused mainstream journalists of being on the payroll of President Obama and the Democratic Party, a common refrain of favoritism especially from those on the losing end of an election (see Bush vs. Gore, Clinton vs. Bush and Bush vs. Dukakis).
But this year the accusation has a new twist: In some notable cases it has become true, with several prominent journalists now on the payrolls of Mr. Obama and the Democratic Congressional leadership.
An unusual number of journalists from prominent, mainstream organizations started new government jobs in January, providing new kindling to the debate over whether Mr. Obama is receiving unusually favorable treatment in the news media.
However, the article contends that the recent downturn in the media business and job losses has caused journalists to seek work in the administration and political arena of Washington, DC.
Administration officials report they have had discussions with other print journalists looking for work as their news organizations begin to shed jobs.
Really? They could all be seeking work in the business public relations world or any number of jobs that are not in the current administration.
Mr. Frantz, who left The Los Angeles Times as it was changing owners in 2007, said he was ready for a career change. But he acknowledged, "If the newspaper industry were more robust, I would hope to still be managing editor of The Los Angeles Times."
Hmmm.

It's about time
February 3, 2009 - 13:04 ET by Dee BunkSadly - he would probably have been confirmed anyway if he hadn't withdrawn. Obama must have asked him to withdraw being worried about his dwindling approval numbers.
Sen. DeMint called for his withdrawal this morning
February 3, 2009 - 13:31 ET by thebutlerdiditso I guess it worked. Yea, DeMint! Way to have some cojones. Must have found them in desk drawer, like an old fuzzy lifesaver. Nah, that's not fair, DeMint seems to speak out more than most. Anyway, I am thrilled to have Daschle gone. And that other chick dropped out with tax problems today, Killiher, I think is her name.

What is with liberals
February 3, 2009 - 13:51 ET by choselife3xAnd the word 'distraction'?
Tax cheat withdrew because he didn't want to be a 'distraction'. Bill Richardson withdrew because HE didn't want to be a 'distraction'. Reverend Wrong was just a 'distraction'.
Arghhhh....
But does that mean the right should emulate the left?

February 3, 2009 - 13:02 ET by CaringwhiteguyThis is just the way things work in DC. Republicans have always tried to place conservatives in the media into government positions. They've wanted to do the same things as the Democrats have always done. Unfortunately they haven't been able to find any conservatives in the media.

Maybe these folks, after flinging themselves into the volcano to get Obama elected, are trying to undo the damage they caused to their own veracity. Kind of like a Kamikaze pilot who survives his attack would attempt to escape and continue to live. Although Kamikazes would probably have enough honor to suicide in that situation....
The MSM has been hemmorhaging viewers/readers for a long time. Maybe they think they can now look "balanced" and salvage something from their lemming-like behavior. They may be willing to oh-so-gently criticize Obama to that end, as long as no real harm is done.

Nice try at equivocation NYT, but it just doesn't fly. Gore and Dukakis lost despite media bias favorable towards them.
