David Limbaugh Column: Thank You, Ms. Rosen

Though everyone is talking about Democratic strategist and Obama confidant Hilary Rosen's insolent remarks about Ann Romney, I want to discuss them, too, because they reveal her leftist mindset.

Rosen didn't misspeak; she spoke deliberately and with passion. And when given a chance to retract or soften her remarks, she doubled down — at least initially.

Her comments came in a segment on CNN with Anderson Cooper. Cooper pointed out that in the current economy, "women are seeing jobs come back much more slowly than men are," and he asked Rosen, essentially, whether there was anything wrong with the Romney campaign's highlighting that fact and "reaching out to women on an issue that they care about, on the economy."

"Guess what?" asked Rosen. "His wife has actually never worked a day in her life. She's never really dealt with the kinds of economic issues that a majority of the women in this country are facing in terms of how do we feed our kids, how do we send them to school and why we worry about their future."

Though Rosen's next comment hasn't received as much attention, it exposes liberal thinking. She said: "There's something much more fundamental about Mitt Romney, because he seems so old-fashioned when it comes to women. And I think that comes across. ... He just doesn't really see us as equal."

Ann Romney responded in her newly launched Twitter account, "I made a choice to stay home and raise five boys. Believe me, it was hard work."

Back on CNN the next day, Rosen protested that she loves stay-at-home moms. "This is not about Ann Romney," she said. "This is about the waitress in a diner someplace in Nevada who has two kids whose day care funding is being cut off because of the Romney-Ryan budget and she doesn't know what to do."

Rosen's remarks, taken together, tell us that like many of today's leftists, she sees America not as a melting pot, but as a Balkanized land of categorized groups, warring against one another. She sees people as blacks, women or gays, not as individuals.

From Rosen's leftist perspective, Republicans don't care about these groups but consider them inferior; "he just doesn't really see us as equal."

As usual with leftists, she's projecting. Who's not seeing women as equals, Ms. Rosen? Deny it as you now must, but you are the one dissing stay-at-home moms, diminishing their role and its worth and dignity, and implying they are somehow inferior.

That's not the way conservative women see it; they respect women whether they stay at home or work. As Ann Romney told Martha MacCallum on Fox News Channel: "My career choice was to be a mother. ... We need to respect choices that women make." She said that Mitt had always told her that her job was more important because it would make a permanent difference.

But we must understand that Rosen's comments also transcend her opinion of stay-at-home moms. She's articulating the narrow, intolerant leftist view that if you are a member of a particular group, you must adopt the attitudes of the left, or you won't measure up. If you are black, a woman or gay and don't subscribe to liberalism and embrace its hostile identity politics, you are not an authentic black person, woman or gay person. If you are a pro-life woman, you can't fully identify with real women.

Rosen's view that the "Romney-Ryan" budget victimizes waitresses further displays the left's habit of seeing everything through the prism of identity politics. Like President Obama, she places people in economic classes, too — the haves and the have-nots — and the only solution they offer the "have-nots" is government assistance, not the hope of advancement through greater opportunity.

Ann Romney served up a delicious smack-down on this argument, as well, saying that she's been on the campaign trail for a year and what women are talking about are "jobs and ... the legacy of debt that we're leaving our children." She gave no quarter to Rosen's implication that the Romneys' wealth makes them insensitive to the less fortunate — again mouthing the noxious view that unless you're part of a group, you can't relate to that group. "Mitt and I have compassion for people that are struggling, and that's why we're running."

Sorry to break it to Ms. Rosen, but the question isn't whether a president is poor — none of them is; Obama's not — but whether he would implement pro-growth and anti-debt policies.

Truth be told, conservatives, generally speaking, have more compassion than those leftists who relegate people to dehumanizing groups. Compassion is a very human phenomenon, not sterile political advocacy ostensibly on behalf of categories of people ripe for political exploitation.

The left's manufactured GOP "war on women" is backfiring. Thank you, Hilary Rosen, and thank you, Ann Romney.

What's altogether right about

Submitted by Ruths husband Ben on Fri, 04/13/2012 - 3:12pm.

What's altogether right about this article is that it speaks to the lie Big Lie that only liberals are really interested in the welfare of the various "classes" in society.  The truth is that conservative values, if pursued and implemented, remove obstacles that prevent people from obtaining their own wealth.  And wealth obtained through your own efforts is far more valuable to the individual than any handout which keeps you coming back to the public trough.  True freedom is the path to prosperity for everyone.

“To compel a man to furnish contributions of money for the propagation of opinions which he disbelieves and abhors, is sinful and tyrannical.” - Thomas Jefferson

Poor Obama

Submitted by bmac32 on Fri, 04/13/2012 - 3:34pm.

This is the poorest President this country has ever had. He's poor in his common sense, he's poor in judgement and why anyone would vote for him. He cares less for real people and cares more for turning this country upside down.

bmac32....Poorest president? President Obama is a heck of a lot

Submitted by Rush Fan on Fri, 04/13/2012 - 8:55pm.

richer than Mitt Romney. Whereas Romney has only his personal wealth, President Obama has the wealth of this country to distribute. To put it in plain language that anyone can understand, Obama's Stash is a heck of a lot bigger than Romney's. PLEASE don't tell me President Obama is poor, when Michelle Obama has her own plane, and Ann Romney doesn't!

That's why I and people like me who are informed, intelligent members of this unfair country will vote for Obama. Unlike Romney, Obama will give us stuff without having to work for it. Romney supports the 1%, and suckers who have to work for a living.

Once Obama is reelected, I am sending him my request ( I already have it written) for a wide screen television and a new deep freezer refrigerator. That's why we love Obama. Obama, Obama, Obama, Obama!

"Compassion is a very human phenomenon, not
sterile political advocacy ostensibly on behalf of
categories of people ripe for political exploitation."

The aforequoted (sic) is a brilliant summary of the position of all Democratic Party rack and file. And it's shameful at best.

Let's face it: do women really believe that the GOP is somehow adverse to their interests just because it's not ready have government foot the bill for everything to contraception or to force the Catholic Church to swallow a pill they don't like?

When a country, founded on ardent Constitutional Republic values, like the U.S. is debating over government providing condoms, in the face of dire econonic future including a $16T hole, then you know priority is lost.

I think the blame is not really with the Democrats, and their Liberal media minions, who sell this garbage but for women, and other Balkanized groups, that find it fascinating enough to consume.

It's almost like some people don't even bother to think at all. No wonder why we have all those atrocious events in from history.

Meanwhile estimates have it that the country spends 10s of billions dollars annually on chocolate bars, most of which are purchased and consumed by women. So we're literally arguing that those who can afford to buy chocolates can't afford to buy rubbers? Preposterous.

Agree, Mr Limbaugh. These gifts occur whenever an Obama operative forgets to close the door tightly and we hear what they really think about the American people, i.e. "clinging to our guns and bibles". Lots more of this to come as the Obama administration continues to collapse under the weight of its own arrogance and hypocrisy.

I am as poor as a church mouse

Submitted by gailannr on Fri, 04/13/2012 - 9:33pm.

(I'm not telling you if I am Mormon or Catholic or Baptist or Presbyterian or Quaker or anything else) but, I really respect and admire Ann Romney. I was just wondering if it was John Kerry and Theresa Heinz/Kerry running for the White House whether the comparison would be the same? What about the rich Kennedys? Didn’t Jackie Kennedy mostly stay home with her children?

For that matter, Washington was surely a millionaire. Both Adams, Jefferson, Madison, Monroe and Tyler owned large estates and had considerable wealth. Both Harrisons were from well-to-do families. Both Roosevelts, both Bushes were born into rich families. Hoover made a fortune as a mining engineer but started with nothing. The other presidents all had high paying jobs other than president and so became well-to-do if not exactly millionaires. With the possible exception of Andrew Johnson and those who died young, they all would have ended up as millionaires today. Including the Clintons and the Obamas and any and all future presidents most likely.

Let's stop with the class warfare already!

I have to disagree with you on John Adams. He was not a wealthy man, at least not until later in life when he left the presidency. Until then yes, he did own land, but it was in Massachustes, where more land is needed to produce a crop. He was a practicing lawyer to support his farm and family. His actions during the Revolution and as president greatly affected his ability to accumulate wealth. Being a politician then was costly, not the cash cow it is today.

Washington was not wealthy until he married Martha, a wealthy widow.

"This is about the waitress

Submitted by ant on Sat, 04/14/2012 - 7:20pm.

"This is about the waitress in Nevada that needs help..her children..blah,blah.." Actually, it's not. Even with liberal 'compassionate' governance in full effect, the example she gives is the example of those that get refused. It is the crack-smoking, non-working mother of children by five different fathers that gets the government largesse, it is the Union donor to Obama that gets the kickback, it is the Senator that doesn't pay a dime for healthcare or food or haircuts out of his/her own pocket that is the real welfare load. The waitress will be turned down for committing the act of actually working and, in fact, have her tips taxed to pay for 'democracy' in Islamic Nations. Spit!

Remember John Kerry?

Submitted by thescoots on Sun, 04/15/2012 - 5:12pm.

You know...the Massachussetts senator who registered his yacht in a different state to avoid paying his own states luxury tax?

Funny how The Kerrys....who are millionaires many times over the Romneys aren't out of touch...and the liberal establishment was behind him 100% when he was the democrat nominee...Never, ever did all that money cloud his campaign...In fact...the media decided to go back 40 years and hilight his questionable Vietnam history....That was a handy distraction from all of that New England privelege...now wasn't it?

Hilary Rosen ... Lesbian attack dog

Submitted by NL207 on Sun, 04/15/2012 - 8:54pm.

I did some googling of this person. There are many bios of this woman on the web. Most all of them are brief. After some further digging, and I had to use the term 'domestic partner' in the search expression, I got this :

"member Hilary Rosen is a single mother of twins who had to go through the expensive and challenging process of adoption with her then partner Elizabeth Birch. Now, she’s trying to stick up for other mothers who don’t have the luxury of millionaire husbands to help fund their child-"

No wonder she is all over Ann Romney.
