Antonio Villaraigosa is not some small-town mayor. The former president of the ACLU of Southern California leads one of the largest cities in the Western hemisphere. He's graced the cover of Newsweek magazine. Hillary Clinton was thrilled to win Antonio's endorsement, and she appointed him to be a national co-chair of her campaign (link/link). Did I mention that he's a Democrat?
So wouldn't it be fairly big news that the Los Angeles City Ethics Commission fined the mayor $5,200 for 30 campaign violations related to his 2003 run for a District council seat?
Apparently, the folks at the Los Angeles Times did not see it as such a big deal. They buried the story in the "Los Angeles County 'In Brief'" section with a puny 148 words on page B4 (story) (see an image of the article here).
Downplaying or ignoring unflattering news about Democrats is nothing new at the Times. We've reported on it a number of times, including here, here, here, here, and here.

Crooked is as Hillary Does
September 11, 2007 - 23:38 ET by Lame CherryI think there should be a betting pool here on the date Al Gore gets into the race and also a category for people to make odds which new breaking scandal will hit Hillary:
Will it be her in a dyke sex picture?
Will it be her with more money laundering?
Will it be her staff being arrested for going nuts?
Will it be another dead body at the park?
The intel cowboys know which stories are there and the Democrats are feeding them the stories to sink dame Hillrod for Gore.
Let the bet begin. (Ponte made a very interesting scenario last week of Gore actually being a super candidate chosen by delegates at the convention. This matches my scenario of Gore being drafted into the race.....although I thought he would answer pleadings around January.)

The only qualification this
September 11, 2007 - 23:56 ET by fitzfongThe only qualification this slick creep had to be mayor was the fact that wasn't Jim Hahn. Tony Villar's downfall is hilarious. My favorite moment of the last several weeks was when he got booed at the David Beckham press conference...that one made Sky Sports News in Britain. This scumbag will taint the Clinton campaign if there's any justice.
Old news, Mr. Pierre, old
September 12, 2007 - 05:19 ET by motherbeltOld news, Mr. Pierre, old news.....don't you know there's a statute of limitations on Democrat scandals? After a certain length of time (usually whenever the next election cycle occurs) you are not allowed to bring up these things.
THIS SHOULD BE A MAJOR POLITICAL STORY...
September 12, 2007 - 07:39 ET by danybhoyThe story of corupt LA mayor Antonio Viagra-igosa should be huge, but it won't get too much play outside of SoCal. Here is a guy who has a couple of kids out of wedlock, is in the middle of getting a divorce, & the woman he's been getting down with is reporting on the story, but never told the viewers.
Mirthala Salinas, who was an anchor at Telemundo station KVEA in LA, was in bed (literally) with the story. This was her 3rd California political figure she had shagged. Telemundo is owned by GE-Universal, who have been trying to get support for a major building project, one that the good mayor supports. This whole thing stinks to the heavens, & it will never see the national spotlight. The fact that it's in LA & that the players are Hispanic & Demacrats will keep this scandal under the radar.

Jail time, anyone?
September 12, 2007 - 09:12 ET by mattmWhy do these criminals get to stay out of jail? They should at least be kicked out of public office. This is a helluva lot more of a violation of public office than Larry Craig's footsie.
No surprise on this one.
September 12, 2007 - 12:41 ET by Darth DutchNo surprise on this one. As a former subscriber to the LA Times (and I only did that for the coupons in the Sunday paper), I can tell you that nearly every day there were articles that were either slanted left or were outright Democratic/Socialist talking points. On immigration they ran story after story of the poor illegals that were here; they also ran stories on how hospital ER waits were 4-5 hours long, but apparently didn't take the time to see that it is in large part due to illegals clogging up the system.
Mayor Villaraigosa (or as Larry Elder calls him Mayor Gigilo-rosa) used to be a darling of the press and would show up anywhere where there was a camera. I think people can see through his dog & pony show of an administration, though. Hopefully a new mayor will be elected next time around.
