A Tale of Two Parties for the AP (Again)

By D. S. Hube | February 16, 2008 - 10:49 ET

Remember the former governor of New Jersey, Jim McGreevey? What political party did he belong to? Can't remember? Well, don't rely on the Associated Press to assist you in its article yesterday about him and his continuing marital woes:

They've bickered over whether she knew he was gay, whose tell-all book would sell better, whether a poster of a nude man hanging over his new lover's bed had to come down before she'd allow their 6-year-old to visit.

Story Continues Below Ad ↓

Divorce has been exceptionally bitter for former New Jersey Gov. Jim McGreevey and his wife, Dina Matos McGreevey. Unless they can resolve the custody and money issues that have arisen since their acrimonious parting, the state's estranged former first couple is heading for a May trial.

The pair split three months after he came out on live television, saying he had a gay affair with an ex-staffer and that he would resign. On Friday, they were in court for the umpteenth round in their drawn-out divorce proceeding, this time to fight about McGreevey's desire to hire outside experts to perform evaluations that could bolster his demand for shared custody.

In the entire fifteen paragraph story, McGreevey's party affiliation -- Democrat -- is never mentioned. But, we learn, the former governor is studying to become an Episcopal priest!

On the other hand, the AP doesn't hesitate whatsoever when it comes to a [much lesser-known] Republican. Here, we read the party affiliation right in the opening paragraph:

Robert A. McKee, a Republican delegate from Washington County, resigned Friday, saying he has "entered treatment" after investigators searched his home in Hagerstown and seized his personal computer.

The FBI's cyber crimes unit is helping Washington County authorities in analyzing materials seized from McKee's home, an FBI spokesman said Friday. The cyber crimes unit investigates computer crimes including malicious hacking, child pornography and Internet fraud.

Just yet another example of the AP's political labels double standard.

Not another sordid story

Not another sordid story about the woes of a politician from an undisclosed political party by the A_ll P_ropaganda news service!  I'm shocked, just shocked!!!

Firearms are second only to the Constitution in importance;  they are the peoples' liberty teeth.-George Washington

McGreevey

McGreevey is a corrupt  Democrat who misused public funds. That's the real story about him, but it's hardly ever mentioned. The AP, like most of the media, is replete with left-wing socialists who spew nothing but ignorant propaganda.

NEVER,NEVER trust a "liberal"

Being a resident of the Blue Garden State

I object to the use of "corrupt" in describing ANY Democrat residing in our fair state. Like the AP, when describing a politico, who has usually bought his position, it is, by us "voters", assumed that that "statesman" IS corrupt and is a (D). For those of you who are not a taxed taxpayer, we can understand how you might get confused, and would need the extra descriptors.

There is no sense in being stupid, if you can't prove it! - my dad V

As I recall, McGreevey was

As I recall, McGreevey was involved in corruption at the highest levels of state government.  His "coming out" tale was only told as a way to deflect attention away from his rampant corruption.  That he was able to carry off his tale of "coming out" as sympathetic to the nation was only due to enthusiastic and willing support of the media.

The whole livid tale stunk worse than Newark.

If I remember correctly, he

If I remember correctly, he gave his boyfriend a hush money job as the State Director of Homeland Security...a job the guy was totally unqualified to take.  But why be concerned with the safety of the constituents who elected you to addess those concerns?  After all, isn't it more important that you keep your extramarital affair a secret from your wife than it is that you uphold your constitutional responsibilities as Governor?  Of course, it's a little difficult to generate sympathy for New Jersey residents who couldn't resist pouring salt in their own wounds by subsequently electing John Corzine.

press release

Someone (from NB or a 'nonpartisan' media watch group) should compile the data for a 6-month period and then put out a press release to the MSM and to all journalism professors.

I love NB's game show premise of 'Democrat or not' and would use that as the lead - putting a little humor into the notion of biased journalism.

Then this report could be referenced anytime someone says the MSM has no liberal bias. NB, keep up the good work.

AP- A biased right wing

AP- A biased right wing attack web site issued a report that
brought skepticism from political scholars yesterday, claiming that Republicans
party affiliation is pointed out more often than other party affiliation during
controversial news stories. However critics claim that the reason is that
Republicans are more corrupt, due to skewed and hateful political positions.
According to one unnamed source, “Republicans are criminals and the media is
just doing their job pointing that out to the public, the public has a right to
the truth”. Major politicians on the right have refused to comment on the
report that has drawn criticism and calls for apologies to the established
professional media from Democratic party members.

I'm still waiting for my paycheck from the AP for this one!

Easy there, fella.  Don't

Easy there, fella.  Don't you know the policy at Reuters and AP?  They won't deliver payment until you've appropriately doctored a photo.  Company policy.  You're simply going to have to wait.

Maybe MTV will bring back

Maybe MTV will bring back Remote Control, and you can use this premise as a twist on the beloved "Dead or Canadian" game.  Hell, you can pilot it as a spring replacement or bank it until the next writers' strike.  And if you could work in Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass' "Spanish Flea" as the musical theme...I think you have a winner!

I saw another one

The wife of a congressman (Conyers) had a dust-up at meeting of some sort.  I think there was a gun threat or something.  Regardless, the article did say she was the wife of Representative Conyers, but nowhere in the article was a D mentioned. Hmmmm.

cap... I also heard just

cap...

I also heard just a bit and piece of this story yesterday somewhere and they did not say what party either...some of us junkies know, but the msm seems to think that the majority of those who don't are just going to assume it just has to be another corrupt repub...the silence about all of this has been riduculous, if this were reversed it would of been a big one...especially on a slow news day.

It do get old...

Btw...On the ticker below on Fox News this morning I saw where they had Sheldon Whitehouse listed as an 'R' after he gave the rebuttal to Bush's Sat. Radio address this morning...how dumb are these people that work on the tickers below, I have seen mistake after mistake over the years...
