Actress Lena Dunham: Sushi in Dining Halls Is ‘Cultural Appropriation’

Say goodbye to those un-American foods like sushi, tacos, and pasta, you college kids! At least, if Lena Dunham and Co. get their way.

Political correctness strikes again, this time at Ohio’s liberal Oberlin College. Students there have been getting their panties in a knot recently because their college dining hall has the audacity to serve a variety of foods. Like sushi and banh mi.

Most college students fear the dreaded “mystery meatloaf Monday” or the inevitable “leftover stew Saturday.” But Oberlin Students? These special snowflakes are whining about undercooked sushi rice and General Tso’s made with steamed chicken instead of fried. And don’t forget the banh mi sandwich served on ciabatta bread instead of a baguette! The horror!

The students have been protesting their school’s ethnic foodstuffs since November, but now Oberlin alum Lena Dunham has decided to chime in. Diversity, usually lauded by liberals, is in this case “cultural appropriation,” according to the actress and Girls creator.

So goodbye Italian lasagnas and Greek salads! Indian Naan and Middle Eastern falafel are out too. Since almost all American cuisine has been adopted and adapted from some other foreign culture, nothing, aside from McDonalds hamburgers and French fries, is safe. Although those should be renamed to prevent offending their European namesakes.

In a recent interview with Food & Wine magazine, Dunham said she supports the protesting students. She told the reporter that “there are now big conversations at Oberlin, where I went to college, about cultural appropriation and whether the dining hall sushi and banh mi disrespect certain cuisines. The press reported it as, ‘How crazy are Oberlin kids?’ But to me, it was actually, ‘Right on.’”

Not that Lena Dunham is capable of judging what is and isn’t crazy. Hollywood’s feminzai poster-girl has multiple pages on Newsbusters citing her past antics.
