ESPN’s Adam Schefter: Johnny Manziel ‘Devolved into Bad Boy Tim Tebow’

There are many awful analogies made in the world of sports. Among them Dan Hampton saying that the Vikings were going to hit New Orleans “like Katrina,” and Nick Saban likening Bama’s loss to Louisiana-Monroe to 9/11 and Pearl Harbor.

I’m not sure where this one ranks on the list of awful analogies, but it’s not good. Appearing on Mike & Mike to discuss the recently released details alleging that Johnny Manziel had struck his ex-girlfriend, ESPN NFL reporter Adam Schefter made this analogy that was tweeted out by the show:

Really? Tim Tebow is your go-to reference/analogy for the Manziel clown show? Wouldn’t another NFL player who had recently been accused of attacking a woman be a far better comparison? Are there a shortage of those?

Or, maybe someone who had a drinking problem and reputation for being a hell-raising party animal? Are there any two people in the world who are more different than Tim Tebow and Johnny Manziel?!

Here’s the thing, Schefter isn’t one of the “usual suspects” when it comes to anti-Christian, anti-Tebow, rabid left-wing bias in the sports media. He rarely, if ever, gets involved with it and normally just sticks to his reporting. Which is very good.

So, I’m not convinced he meant this as some kind of attack. Which, in a weird way actually makes it worse. Because it means that even though Schefter is not a rabid leftist, he’s surrounded by so many rabid leftists and anti-Christian loons that he reflexively went to that analogy, regardless of the fact that Tebow is also an ESPN employee. Which just takes this analogy to an entirely new and greater level of fail.

Anyway, bad look for a normally good guy. He should apologize.
