NYTimes's Trip Gabriel Still Finds Romney Has Big 'Problem With Hispanic Voters'

By Clay Waters | April 30, 2012 | 14:39

A  A

New York Times reporter Trip Gabriel is still searching out electoral problems for Republicans among Hispanics: "Crucial to Romney, Florida’s Latino Voters Are Wary of Him, Too."

If Mitt Romney is to overcome his problem with Hispanic voters, he is going to have to start by changing a lot of minds in central Florida.

A key battleground in a vital swing state, the region is home to growing numbers of non-Cuban Hispanics who have always been viewed by Republicans as open to their economic and social views but reluctant to back the party in part because of its position on illegal immigration. With Mr. Romney having taken hawkish stances on immigration during the primary season, he and his campaign are now trying to shift the debate to what they feel will be friendlier terrain -- jobs.

But the challenge here in central Florida is clear. Gladys Thayer, a native of Panama who is a registered Republican, is receptive to Mr. Romney’s message on the economy but did not like his tough immigration talk.

“I definitely think he needs to lean more towards helping the Hispanic community,” said Ms. Thayer, a real estate agent, who has not decided if she will vote for Mr. Romney in November.

Mr. Romney acknowledged his problem when he told donors in Florida recently that if President Obama keeps his commanding advantage among Latinos, it “spells doom for us.” He campaigned this week with Senator Marco Rubio of Florida, a Cuban-American, and signaled on Monday that he may be open to compromise on the Dream Act, a path to citizenship for undocumented immigrants brought to the United States as children.

On October 20, 2011, during the Republican primary battle, Gabriel filed "Tough Immigration Talk Heats Up Debate, and Alienates Some Hispanics." Gabriel argued that the "Republican candidates are competing over who can talk the toughest about illegal immigration...But after such pointed proposals heated up yet another Republican debate...some party officials see a yellow light signaling danger in battleground states with large Hispanic populations in November 2012. Will Hispanic voters remember and punish the eventual Republican nominee?"

Oh my!

It's funny how the media is now treating the Cubans, who are, for the most part, Republican.

They've vanished as hispanics.

Simply fact, If the New York

Simply fact, If the New York Time, The Public Relations firm representing the Obama administration says it than their is absolutly no truth involved.

They really believe that the entire world is stupid but them. They have very little if any credibility left after the cheerleading display the have put on over the last 4-5 years.
They have always been a far left liberal supporting agency but over the last 5 years thay stopped even trying to portray themselves as a unbias newspaper.

The Grey Lady is as clueless as the rest of the liberal media.

Hispanics are culturally and historically conservative. They will realize it on Nov.7th.

Ah, the race and ethnicity crowd

Submitted by CO2Maker on Mon, 04/30/2012 - 6:33pm.

Ever notice how all the race and ethnicity advocates are assssssymptotes?

"Gonzalez for the appeals court? Really, Republicans? You know, we know you're trying hard but you still aren't near the line of racial equality. Where is that line? Well, it's right here. See? Oops, it moved. We rejiggered [Can I say that?] the racial calculus and the line is now a bit further. Try again? Rubio? Oh, please. You're still too far away from that line. Allen West? He's an Oreo with a square haircut. You'll never cross the racial equality line that way. Condoleezza Rice? Hello! You're just trying to make nice with a little brown sugar, as Doonesbury said. You know, you should try to follow the footsteps of Rev. Tawana Sharpyton and Rev. Hymietown Jackson. That's how you cross the line."

Right. Or you've also officially crossed the line once you've embraced a skinny, goofy-looking, big-eared, half white / half Kenyan, born and raised all over the place, snake oil salesman who can walk and talk in any color/ethnic style that appeals to you.
