NY Times Book Review Leads With Warnings of 'Rabid' Anti-Obama Conservatives

By Clay Waters | September 08, 2011 | 07:42

A  A

New York Times editorial board member Brent Staples, who reviewed Randall Kennedy’s “Persistence of the Color Line” for the Sunday Book Review, discussed race, Obama, and “rabid conservatives” at the front of the section.

Staples said his view of President Obama is partly shaped by what they have in common:

“We are both black men who moved to the mainly black South Side of Chicago in our early 20s. We both lived in Hyde Park and had lengthy associations with the University of Chicago, where I earned a Ph.D. in psychology and he taught law on one of the more conservative law school faculties in the country. Chicago, of course, is the home of the iconic free-market economist Milton Friedman and Leo Strauss....Conservatism is in the water there; it is not possible to be engaged there intellectually without absorbing some of it. Obama clearly went to Washington with a healthy respect for rational, principled conservatism. He was utterly unprepared for an encounter with rabid conservatives who would risk the economy to destroy his presidency. The debt ceiling debate made painfully clear that his rhetoric of compromise is useless -- and perhaps even self-defeating -- with an opponent who has taken compromise off the table. The burning question: Can Obama retool and recover from this?”

Watch the country fail... but, be quiet about our awesome leader

Submitted by FreeEnterprise on Thu, 09/08/2011 - 8:09am.

So the left continues to trumpet how great Øbama is while our country crumbles under the massive new regulations, and business killing taxes (Obamacare) and we are all supposed to pretend that this isn't happening.

Everything is great now that Keynesian economics are front and center. Trillions of federal dollars (being pushed through the unions) have fixed everything...

And yet... The most prevelant signs around my town are "available for sale or lease"... They don't even bother putting up signs anymore in a lot of areas, you can just tell because the grass is 2 feet high and the buildings are showing wear from sitting (you know the A/C units have all been stolen).

Any of the problems that government has heaped on small business is a personal attack against Øbama... Because it CAN'T be his policies putting our country into the SECOND part of this recession (you know the dreaded "double dip").

No it has to be the tea party's fault. Those Racist, Barbarian, Murdering, SOB's, they are responsible for Obamacare... If they hadn't been complaining from sea to shining sea, maybe they could have opened up the debate to include a single republican and let people actually read the bill before they forced it through congress as a Christmas gift. A gift that just keeps on giving.

Course, the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. Well, tonight we get the Øbama jobs plan #6. More of the same.

I expect more of the same when he rams it through. More debt, more borrowing, less jobs, and less civility. It should be an interesting election year, now that the unions are ready to kill tea party members because their leadership has made that to be the game plan.

End Of His Days

Obama's reign of audacity ends in 499 days, if not sooner.

To more fully comprehend the Left, one must read “Leftism As Psychopathy” by John Ray, M.A., Ph.D. Caution, it might scare you a little bit.

The left keep playing the

Submitted by rbosque on Thu, 09/08/2011 - 11:09am.

The left keep playing the same song over and over. We're either racist or we hate Obama because he's "liberal" or both.

The fact is, we're Marxism-averse, that is our Capitalist-driven economy cannot function correctly with gov't interference and the left believes otherwise. Even is the midst of a resession THEY caused, they still believe and function thinking that what they did to the economy wil still work. It doesn't., Obama fits the Marxist mold. You're right FreeEnterprise, our economy is shot, and Obama's policies are to blame. Everytime we see our economic figures take a dive we are vindicated but the problem is that Obama's policies are screwing all of us and there's no sign he's changing.

Free market Capialism works everytime. The gov't needs to get the h*ll out of our way it is painfully obvious that they cannot fix anything.

NYT doesn't know what "rational, principled conservatism" is!

Submitted by drsamherman on Thu, 09/08/2011 - 12:45pm.

Of course the buttkissing coming from a liberal psychologist surprises me in the least. The liberalism in most psychologists and other soft, fuzzy types is all but genetically encoded. There are notable exceptions, for example our very own Cajun, but the behavioral studies disciplines in most major training centers is stocked to the gills with the type of faculty who foam at the mouth over every perceived victimization mentality possible. I am not even sure that APA could ever write all of their nonsense into DSM. It would have to be as thick as the old Manhattan phone directory in 6-point type.
