Inspired By Obama, NYT Churns Out Another Sympathetic Story on Illegals

By Clay Waters | August 23, 2011 | 13:09

A  A

There’s a jubilant undercurrent in Julia Preston’s Tuesday report in the New York Times on Obama’s new policy limiting deportations of illegal immigrants who have not committed a crime, “U.S. Issues New Deportation Policy’s First Reprieves.”

Preston has a reputation for sympathetic coverage of illegal immigration policy. In December 2010 she lamented a Senate vote blocking a bill granting amnesty to illegal immigrant students as a “painful setback.”

Her tone is different today:

The call came in the morning to the lawyer representing Manuel Guerra, an illegal immigrant from Mexico living in Florida who had been caught in a tortuous and seemingly failing five-year court fight against deportation.

With the news early Thursday that federal immigration authorities had canceled his deportation, Mr. Guerra became one of the first illegal immigrants in the country to see results from a policy the Obama administration unveiled in Washington that day. It could lead to the suspension in coming months of deportation proceedings against tens of thousands of immigrants.

Administration officials and immigrant advocates said Monday that the plan offered the first real possibility since President Obama took office -- promising immigrants and Latinos he would overhaul the law to bring illegal immigrants into the system -- for large numbers of those immigrants to be spared from detention and deportation.

Story Continues Below Ad ↓

....

In particular, officials will look to halt deportations of longtime residents with clean police records who came here illegally when they were children, or are close family of military service members, or are parents or spouses of American citizens.

....

In recent years, even though he was undocumented, Mr. Guerra has been a Florida leader of the illegal immigrant student movement, helping to organize a protest walk by four students to Washington and a mock university held by students wearing mortarboards on Capitol Hill.

Indeed, Preston covered that minuscule January 2010 “march” from Miami to Washington of a grand total of four protesters, which somehow merited a 780-word article. By contrast, a massive anti-Obama rally that attracted over 100,000 people to the Capitol in September 2009 resulted in virtually the same level of print coverage in the Times: A 932-word article.

Besides Guerra, the Times quoted another Hispanic activist and Rep. Luis Gutierrez in support of Obama's move. Only in the very last paragraph did the Times find anyone opposed to Obama’s approach, Rep. Peter King:

Republican leaders reacted to Mr. Obama’s new policy by stepping up their rejection of his approach. Representative Peter T. King of New York, chairman of the Homeland Security Committee in the House, said the president was making “a blatant attempt to grant amnesty to potentially millions of illegal aliens in this country,” which he called “totally unacceptable.”

Yet Another Drunk Illegal Killing an innocent person

Submitted by Allison04ma on Tue, 08/23/2011 - 1:59pm.

MILFORD MA —

A 23-year-old Milford man was killed Saturday evening after police say an intoxicated driver hit his motorcycle and dragged his body a quarter mile.

Matthew J. Denice, of 22 Debbie Lane, was pronounced dead at Milford Regional Medical Center after the crash at 7:50 p.m.

Police arrested Nicolas Dutan Guaman, 34, of 10 Cherry St., Apt. 1, Milford, and charged him with vehicular homicide, driving under the influence of liquor, negligence, leaving the scene of an accident involving personal injury and death, possession of an open container in the motor vehicle, failing to stop for police, unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, failure to yield at a stop sign, wanton or reckless conduct creating risk to a child, and resisting arrest.

He is being held at the Milford Police station, said Sgt. John Sanchioni. Immigration and Customs Enforcement "does have an interest in him because of a question of his citizenship," said the sergeant.

According to police documents, officers contacted the Ecuadorian Consulate following the crash.

Guaman, driving his 2004 black Ford pick-up truck, failed to yield at a stop sign at Congress and Fayette streets, striking Denice on his 2003 Buell motorcycle and dragging his body about a quarter mile, police said.

Denice's body was dislodged from under Guaman's truck when he ran off the road at the corner of West Bancroft Street, said Milford Police Sgt. Mike Pighetti.

"According to accounts, families grilling outside and sitting on their porches heard the crash and about a half dozen people chased the pick-up truck on foot and banged on the door trying to get the driver to stop," said Milford Police Sgt. Mike Pighetti yesterday.

After Guaman ran off the road, he ran away, police said. Police chased him and arrested him.

About an hour before the crash, Guaman's family told police Guaman was drunk when he left a party with his 6-year-old son and another man in the truck, said Pighetti. "We had been looking for the truck when the accident occurred," he said.

"It was horrible, horrible," said Pighetti. "This whole thing was horrible and unnecessary."

The crash remains under investigation by state, regional and local police.

Perhaps Obama will deport these people to the White House

Submitted by Gary Hall on Tue, 08/23/2011 - 2:14pm.

From the SacBee on April 21, 2011:

  • The number of criminal aliens incarcerated in California rose to 102,795 in 2009, a 17 percent increase since 2003, federal auditors reported Thursday [..]

  • Many are also repeat offenders. GAO auditors say that, based on a survey, criminal alien inmates have been arrested an average of seven different times.

102,795? Picture the Rose Bowl

Estimated annual prison costs? $3.5 billion.

Arrested average of 7 times each? Wow, that's over 700,000 arrests - just the current batch who are incarcerated. How many were arrested and not sent to jail? Just what did 700,000 arrests cost? What are the costs to the court system?

Who is this guy, Obama?

4-year-old boy killed in Santa Rosa hit-and-run
The Associated Press
Posted: 08/19/2011 10:18:37 PM PDT

SANTA ROSA, Calif.—A four-year-old boy is dead and an unlicensed driver in custody after police say the boy was run down by a car as he walked through a Santa Rosa crosswalk with his family.

Police say after the boy was hit around 6 p.m. Thursday, he was taken to a local hospital, and then flown to Oakland's Children's Hospital. He died around 7:30 a.m. Friday.

His name has not been released.

About two hours after the boy was hit, officers arrested Marcos Lopez Garcia on suspicion of felony hit-and-run. He was arrested outside an apartment building after leaving his car at a park.

A Santa Rosa police spokesman says the 22-year-old Garcia is currently unlicensed and has two prior arrests for driving without a driver's license.

He was being held at Sonoma County Jail, with bail set at $500,000.

***** Unlicensed? TWO PRIOR ARRESTS !!! Of course AP conveniently neglected to mention ILLEGAL.

Illegals haven't committed a crime?

Submitted by dscott on Tue, 08/23/2011 - 2:44pm.

Woa, what law school did these morons go to? They should demand their money back. They are individuals who have committed multiple felonies.

– Using false documents to be employed: A maximum penalty of 10 years without parole in federal prison and a fine up to $250,000.
– Making a false statement on an I-9: A maximum penalty of 5 years in federal prison without parole and a fine up to $250,000.
– Misusing a Social Security number: A maximum penalty of 5 years in federal prison without parole and a fine up to $250,000.
– Making a false claim of resident alien status: A maximum penalty of 5 years in federal prison without parole and a fine up to $250,000.
– Using false documents with intent to defraud the United States: A maximum penalty of 15 years in federal prison without parole and a fine up to $250,000.
– Possession of false United States documents: A maximum penalty of 15 years in federal prison without parole and a fine up to $250,000.

Yet no federal indictments of these people? It's called nonfeasance by the Obama regime. So much for the Rule of Law, now its the arbitrary use of force against those who are disfavored. If favored groups are exempt from the Law, then enforcing the Law on others is the arbitrary use of force by a Lawless government, a regime.

Is this going to be another covert amnesty?

Submitted by Brittanicus on Tue, 08/23/2011 - 6:22pm.

THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT LIED TO THE AMERICAN PEOPLE IN 1986, WHEN THEY ENACTED THE IMMIGRATION CONTROL AND REFORM ACT. What makes you think they are not lying to us again?

Millions were given Amnesty under the Simpson/Mazzoli bill, with an outcome of 6 million and a path to citizenship. A good many had rushed processing, with major problems they way it was originally performed. On top of this was CHAIN MIGRATION, which added even more family members, which ended up eating away at Social Security safety net, with not a dime coming from their pockets. Each year taxpayers are forced by the court to care financially for illegal aliens and their children. Over a 100 billion a year is drained from the US treasury and States, with no end in sight. President Obama cannot survive the 2012 election campaign, without the vote of maximum number of minorities, legal and illegal.

In America since the immigration lax enforcement, the criminals from the dregs of the gutters have been turning up here. Hit and run drivers have been escalating, along with drunken foreigners who have been mowing down innocent citizens. The worst states on the borders are full of drug dealers, people smugglers, children and women molesters and heinous murders. This is the abject time when E-verify must be mandated for every workplace and “Secure Communities” must be enforced to its full capability.

The Democratic parties, with Liberal undertones are unconcerned that--ONLY—U.S. citizens can vote? Learn about widespread voter fraud, that the US government pretends is negligible--it’s not? More is available to read at "Judicial Watch" that illustrates that both Washington and certain states are rife with corruption. Our last hope is the TEA PARTY, THE PEOPLE'S PARTY of all Americans, who will turn the tide of Obama's executive order to limit the flow of illegal alien deportations. Just like the President Obama's health care program, his executive order is full of gaping loopholes, so there is convincing probability that illegal aliens will be returned to the streets.

Rest assured the word is already out about Obama’s clemency campaign that will invigorate millions to arrive from around the world; but mostly from countries south of the US border.

THE ONLY STATES THAT ARE SAFE FROM ECONOMICAL OCCUPATION OF ILLEGAL ALIENS IS ARIZONA, ALABAMA AND GEORGIA. THEIR LEGISLATORS DECIDED TO ENACT POLICING LAWS, SO THEIR CITIZENS AND RESIDENTS DIDN’T GET STUCK WITH UNFUNDED MANDATE BILLS FROM WASHINGTON. STATES THAT REMAIN UNCONCERNED ABOUT THEIR LEGAL POPULATIONS, SUCH AS CALIFORNIA AND NEVADA, WHO ARE NOW DEMANDING MORE TAXES TO PAY FOR THESE INCURSIONS. BOTH STATES ARE STRAINING AGAINST LIBERAL POLITICIANS, GIVING UNHEARD OF WELFARE PAYMENTS.

Taxpayers are already being forced to pay for the education, medical care and welfare for illegal migrants and immigrants? So how much more money is citizens and residents expected to pay from their dwindling wages? Illegal alien children are well taken care of with your tax dollars that includes food stamps and cash payments. While many American citizens live in dire poverty. Something is seriously wrong with this picture?

The TEA PARTY has become a mammoth grassroots movement of tens of millions of one- minded Americans from all racial and religious backgrounds, political parties, no matter what the Leftists party blabber? The TEA PARTY members have the shared focused values of limited government, individual freedoms, personal responsibility, "fair" free markets and above all else returning authority to the States and the people. We need a flat tax system, so that everybody whose domain is the United States-pays. No more IRS loopholes to escape through? The TEA PARTY is about reforming all political parties and control, so the key principles of our US Constitution, once again is the foundation on which this nation stands. The TEA PARTY is the hope of America’s future; for without it the rot will continue to eat away in House & Senate. The TEA PARTY will enforce the 1986 (ICRA), with no further Amnesties, ever.

Boo-frickin'-hoo

Submitted by Pilgrim1949 on Wed, 08/24/2011 - 10:52am.

I happen to know a number of LEGAL immigrants (you know, the kind that didn't BREAK A FEDERAL LAW by being here ILlegally in first place, hence the term ILLEGAL immigrant) in our church who are undergoing many hardships in trying to navigate the legal, Byzantine, bureaucratic INS maze to attain Green Cards and thereafter become citizens. Some have actually done so, others are in the process.

Yes, it takes years and lotsa-lotsa-bucks to LEGALLY (dang, there's that pesky term again!) get to the finish line, but they are doggedly doing it the legal route. Among them we even have very dear friends whose current H1-visa-sponsoring employer is laying off workers, to include them, and in light of the current job market and lack of success in getting another sponsoring employer, they are sadly making plans to return, not just across a little river border, but across an entire ocean (yet more lotsa-bucks) to their home country until such time as they can hopefully return to finally make this their permanent home country.

Pro LEGAL immigration? Absolutely 10000%

Anti ILLEGAL immigration?  Ditto the same even more so.

If not, then why even have any border checkpoints whatsoever?  Let's just rip out all of the gates!!  (Or, if you're a Lib/Dem, you'd perhaps prefer instead that we replace them with voter registration booths and welfare application officers?)

"Ye canne change the laws of physics....." but some politicians believe that with the right legislation you can pretend they don't really apply to your own pet projects...
