NYT Reviews Ann Coulter's Book Cover But Not the Actual Book
The “Inside the List” column for the New York Times’s Sunday Book Review, compiled by Jennifer Schuessler, discussed Ann Coulter’s latest New York Times bestseller “Demonic” under the subhead “Woman In Black.”
The first paragraph of the Times’ official Topics page for Coulter describes the author as “ultraconservative,” and Schuessler’s Book Review brief is no less loaded:
When Ann Coulter last appeared on the hardcover nonfiction list in 2009, with “Guilty: Liberal ‘Victims’ and Their Assault on America,” some commentators asked whether the conservative attack dog had lost a bit of her sales bite. “Guilty” spent six weeks on the list -- an enviable showing by most standards, but a decline from the mark set by “Godless” (12 weeks), “Treason” (13 weeks) and “Slander” (15 weeks).
Now, Coulter comes roaring back with “Demonic: How the Liberal Mob is Endangering America,” new at No. 2, though her brand does seem to have undergone a bit of tweaking....Alas, the redesign went over less well at National Review Online, where commenters invoked Nigel Tufnel nattering about his all-black album cover in “This Is Spinal Tap,” among other problems. “What I see at least is a flat black cover, that from any distance greater than a foot will proclaim: ‘Demonic Ann Coulter,’ ” one commenter said. “I.e., Christmas comes early for ‘The Daily Show.’”
That review of what online commenters are saying about Coulter’s book cover apparently comes in lieu of an actual book review; Times archives are almost bereft of actual reviews of Coulter’s books, even as Schuessler admits that they routinely make the paper's bestseller list. The Times has even published reviews of anti-Coulter books. But as Coulter wrote in a column last week, “With only one review -- not in the Book Review -- after eight New York Times best-sellers, the editors can rest assured that I know they don't like me.”
The Times has a problem with reviewing conservative books in general.

Does This Impact Sales

Is the criticism because not being reviewed costs sales? I can't imagine a NY Times review would be objective. Do books sell based on a review or based on a good review? Not sure why Coulter or anyone else would care?

The only review I've read in the NY Slimes Book Review on an Ann Coulter book, I forget which one, proved Ann's observations about liberals to a tee.

And yet, Coulter's book will still outsell those of liberal authors. Her biggest competition will be against Glen Beck's new book. It's going to kill the liberals.

The NYT has all the information they need for a "review". The book title and that Ann Coulter wrote it. With that information they can write a review for people the read this tripe.

Here is a book review in the case that you all haven't already bought it:
I never really considered liberals' mob-like behavior as much as I did after reading this book.
In Ann Coulter's Demonic: How the Liberal Mob is Endangering America, Coulter gives an in-depth description of the liberal mob's history - from the French Revolution to the purging of the Bolsheviks to the infamous Weather Underground (whose members now work as presidential advisers and members of faculties at the nation's premier universities).
This is most likely her best book. It differs from the others for its historical research as well as psychological input. The book, which is essentially structured around analysis from groupthink expert Gustave Le Bon, exposes how mob-like some on the left really are. Even Le Bon cites the high desire of a mob to surround a "messiah" (Obama?) and ultimately think without reason ("Universal health care cuts costs!").
In a nutshell, 3 reasons why you should read Ann Coulter's Demonic:
1. Not just for Republicans
I have a feeling many Libertarians will enjoy this book. Godless isn't necessarily sitting on their bookshelves, but Libertarians may enjoy Coulter's analysis of mob history. In general, I would think anyone who isn't a member of the "liberal mob" wouldn't have an issue with her analysis, from the French Revolution to present day. If I know one thing, the book criticizes the stereotypical mob, and libertarians don't belong to it.
2. Historical analysis
The two best chapters within the book are entitled "The French Revolution: When Liberals Attack" and "The French Revolution Part Deux: Come for the Beheadings, Stay for the Rapes." Having recently studied the French Revolution, I was surprised as to how accurate and detailed this section was, from the storming of the Bastille to Louis XVI's unsuccessful flight out of Versailles. However, this section differed from my personal education on the French Revolution for its emphasis on how bloody the Revolution really did become. I never knew how the mob tormented Marie Antoinette with heated sexism, nor how many people lost their heads to the guillotine, nor how the mob brainwashed Antoinette's son to tell the jury that Antoinette sexually molested him. I guess I accredit this lack of knowledge to my public school education. I remember during an episode of "Real Time," Bill Maher once said that America's founding fathers never believed in God, that they would have "hated you guys [tea partiers]." I originally thought, again from my public school education, that Maher was partially wrong, and our founding fathers were deists (at least that's what my textbook said...). But again, Coulter proved that our founding fathers were Christians who embedded their belief in God in the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution, and prayed before God prior to going to battle.
3. Satire/humor
Part of the reason why young conservatives love Ann Coulter so much is because of her comedic style. She can efficiently write a well-researched, serious book while also throwing in a joke or two. There's nothing that can compare to how, according to Coulter, Democrats dislike "teabaggers" but will never dislike the sexual act of teabagging...

Liberals. I've always known something was wrong with them but I couldn't quite put my finger on it until now. Liberals are childlike in that they are oftentimes almost exclusively controlled by their emotions. Logic and common sense are concepts that are "thrown out the window" by many of them. Thus, their mob-like behavior when they get riled up. They love to chant, call people (they disagree with) names and sometimes when their emotions have been risen to a certain "high pitch", they will bite off the finger of an innocent "Tea Party" member. Last night, in a public park, a Liberal exhibited mob-like behavior by pouring a drink down the back of Glenn Beck's wife and then said that it was an accident. This was done after screaming "I hate Conservatives" in Glenn's face.

It seems to me that there is a pandemic of arrested development going on, and much as I hope that some of these synaptically atrophied troglodites might grow a brain stem at some point, I fear that in this case arrested actually means halted it its tracks never to be used again.

That is so depressing! And just this week I read that in Sweden, at pre-schools, children are going to be discouraged from using gender-specific language and stereotypes. They're actually going to try to re-wire the little brains of little children so that any "typical boys" or "typical girls" are going to all be "typical children".
I sure hope Sweden becomes a graphic illustration of how catastrophic the ridiculous end of socialism is and a warning to any that have a glimmer of perception left to learn from their demise!
