Dictators and Double Standards? NY Times Goes After Inhofe, Stayed Quiet on Ted Kennedy-Andropov Memo
New York Times reporter Mark Oppenheimer on Tuesday documented some of the strange conservative allies of African dictator Laurent Gbagbo of Ivory Coast, who is a Christian: “A Strongman Found Support in Prominent Conservative Christians in the U.S.”
But some of the labeling was overheated: “A secretive evangelical Christian organization that some say has a right-wing agenda.” When the Times says “some say,” it almost always means “liberals say,” and indeed, Oppenheimer’s source, Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics (CREW) tends to target conservatives with their complaints.
The Ivory Coast strongman Laurent Gbagbo, who was finally captured on Monday, defied nearly everybody: the United States, the European Union and the African Union. But right to the end, Mr. Gbagbo had defenders in the West, and they notably included several prominent conservative Christians.
It is impossible to know for sure if the group sided with Mr. Gbagbo because he is a Christian; his rival, Alassane Ouattara, recognized internationally as the winner of last year’s presidential election, is a Muslim. But to judge by the recent comments of Senator James M. Inhofe of Oklahoma, the Rev. Pat Robertson, the Christian broadcaster, and Glenn Beck, the Fox News television personality, religion did play a role in their support.
After noting that Sen. Inhofe met Gbagbo through the National Prayer Breakfast, Oppenheimer wrote:
The National Prayer Breakfast has been held every year since 1953. It is operated by a group known as the Fellowship, a secretive evangelical Christian organization that some say has a right-wing agenda. In 2010, Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, a government watchdog group, asked that President Obama and Congressional leaders skip the event. They did not.
This is the third time the paper has described the organizers of the event as “secretive.”
On the subject of congressmen showing dubious support of dictators, the Times in 1985 during the Cold War didn’t find much controversial about the outspoken support by prominent liberal Democratic senators John Kerry and Tom Harkin for leftist Nicaraguan dictator Daniel Ortega.
More recently, the Times completely ignored the August 2009 revelations that Ted Kennedy offered aid and comfort to the leader of the Soviet Union at the height of the Cold War. Working from a 1983 memo from the Soviet archives from the top man in the KGB to Soviet leader Yuri Andropov, Forbes’ Peter Robinson explained:
...[Kennedy] proposed an unabashed quid pro quo. Kennedy would lend Andropov a hand in dealing with President Reagan. In return, the Soviet leader would lend the Democratic Party a hand in challenging Reagan in the 1984 presidential election. "The only real potential threats to Reagan are problems of war and peace and Soviet-American relations," the memorandum stated. "These issues, according to the senator, will without a doubt become the most important of the election campaign."....Kennedy proved eager to deal with Andropov - the leader of the Soviet Union, a former director of the KGB and a principal mover in both the crushing of the 1956 Hungarian Revolution and the suppression of the 1968 Prague Spring - at least in part to advance his own political prospects.

Obama's trip to Kenya.. Genocide-like activity followed the ..

Senator Obama's trip to Kenya in August of 2006 (note the red shirt), included what appeared to be campaigning for his fellow Luo tribe member, and presidetial candidate Raila Odinga. Note: Neither Obama's reference to Odinga as "brother,' nor Odinga's reference to Obama as his "cousin," should infer that that is the actual case. Senator Obama activities during his visit, namely his attacks on the then current government of Kenya was sharply criticized the Kenya, here:
RESPONSE TO AMERICAN SENATOR BARACK OBAMA’S POORLY INFORMED COMMENTS
Shortly after Raila Odinga's December 27th, 2007 loss to Mwai Kibaki, opposition leader Raila Odinga's Luo tribe followers went on a rampage in several parts of the country. Road blocks were set up, and mobs did the usual hacking up of the winning side with machetes. One horrific event which caught much international attention (little in the US - and none curious about Obama's closeness to Odinga), was when Luo's barricaded some 30 people in a church and set it ablaze, killing all. Women and children were amongst those murdered (video). CNN's Nick Robertson filed this report, here.
It was confirmed by Obama aide, Robert Gibbs, that Obama did speak to Odinga during the week following the election. One can only assume that the violence was discussed?
A bit of background on Raiia Odinga. I saved this clip, from 2006.. I regret to say, like so many other old stories around these issues, from the AP to Reuters, etc., most are now dead:
I can see why our national MSM would have little interest in investigating and reporting on the many issues in relation to then Senator and presidential candidate Obama, as the Minority co-chair of the Senate Enviromental Committe, Sen. James Inhofe. He is a much more important target... for them.
Do your own homework.

For some reason, NB loads so many bloody scripts (twitter feeds, youtube, yada yada)....that it just kills every damn thing you've got going on the computer. I have to shut down totally and reboot about every 2 hours...and I have a bit of a screamer. Go figure.
Only wine? What about the Cajun Martinis? I'm shocked!!!!
They ought to work quite well with my Enchiladas (Second Entry down.....try the chicken first, they rock, I love them so much I'm thinking of entering some cooking contests....and YES....it's my own invention).
Nothing better than a lovely sip and a delicious nibble. (Iguana Man bought me a grill griddle...yummo onions on tonight's burgers).

While it was re-booting.. and it helped.. I waltzed over to the fridge, and without thinking poured a shot of cajun martini - from the freeze.. Well, there wasn't any wine opened. Do I have a problem?
Ha! It's somebody's b-day, someplace. There's a budget speech to recover from. So many reasons to wind down.
Off to cook vegi tonight -- huge artichokes, one for her, one for me. Check your e shortly..

The scary thing

And the scary thing is, the Chairman is trying to have the same thing done in this country where Shariah is recognized as the one true law. He's doing it in dribs and drabs, but he's trying. People just don't see that.
Case in point, look at all the support he's been throwing to the middle east uprisings, at least the ones that are caused by his pals, the Muslim Brotherhood. If that's not proof that he's for Shariah, I don't know what is.
And also not giving one damn about those that aren't for Shariah like the Christians in Egypt, or those rising up against Ahmadingdongjackass in Iran.
Shariah is starting to become a fast acting cancer.
