NYT's Shear Covers GOP's 'Assault' on First Anniversary of 'Historic Measure,' Obama-Care
New York Times political blogger Michael Shear used loaded language to describe the Republican Party’s “assault” on Obama-care on the one-year anniversary of that “historic measure," in his Wednesday morning post “Boehner, McConnell Push Assault on Health Care Law”
A year after President Obama signed his health care law into effect, the two leading Republicans in Congress are making it clear that they do not intend to let up in their assault on the historic measure.
“Historic measure” has an awfully supportive ring to it. Indeed, the White House has similarly referred to the “Affordable Care Act” as “historic legislation,” and former Democratic Sen. Chris Dodd called it “historic legislation for the good of the country” in the August 15, 2010 Times.
Times reporters David Herszenhorn and Robert Pear called Obama-care "historic legislation" in a January 19, 2010 story.
While relaying the back and forth between House Speaker John Boehner, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, and the Obama White House, Shear left out relevant information, like survey data (even in surveys skewed toward Democrats) showing the deep unpopularity of Obama’s legislation, despite Democratic predictions last year that the more people learned about the measure, the more they would support it.

Obamacare does nothing that it has claimed to do---why else have so many groups been given exemptions from it already? It's a horror in all respects. Repeal it and start over. [NEVER,NEVER trust a "liberal" (progresive)]What assault?

I see Obamacare as an assault on the Constitution and the Individual Liberty that Founding document was created to recognize and protect.
Health Care Reform is Needed

But ObamaCare is not reform, it is a takeover.
The best reform would be to get the government out of health care. Let the free market control the insurers and providers.
Sure there will be the occasional abuse. Just convict and throw the bums into prison ASAP. The other bums will take note.
We have a system to handle drivers who can't otherwise buy insurance, it is called an "Assigned Risk" category and those in the pool are assigned to an insurance carrier that must provide coverage. Why can't we do the same for those with pre-existing conditions? If insurance companies want to write health care insurance, then the carrier must provide coverage to those people assigned to them.
AND set a window for the pre-existing condition so some fool that doesn't have insurance and who gets injured can't buy insurance while lying on the gurney, pay the first month's premium, run up several thousand dollars in care, then stop paying the premiums after recovering. I believe this is called a "Free Rider". I call it welfare.

Just to prove the insurers are sometimes victims.

$59k for a 25 minute consultation? And the law says the carrier has to pay. If they don't pay enough, the doctor turns around and bills the patient for the balance. So let's do the math. If the insurance company pays this doctor the usual $500 for a consult, the doctor is free to slap the patient with a $58,500.00 dollar doctor's bill. Now if that patient loses their house over the bill, who's the bad guy? The insurance company for not paying the outrageous bill, or the doctor for wanting an excessive amount for a simple service?
I blame the doctor.
