The Unholy Hatred of the Westboro Baptist Church

By Charlie Daniels | December 14, 2010 | 18:26

I remember the first time I ever saw any of the Westboro Baptist Church. It was many years ago and I can't remember where it was but I saw a bunch of people at a distance holding up day glow colored signs that said, "GOD HATES FAGS" and "THANK GOD FOR DEAD SOLDIERS."

When you travel as much as I do, you see some pretty strange sights and tend to catalogue such things as the antics of a bunch of local kooks out to grab some headlines.

Well, the part about the headlines is true at least, but unfortunately these despicable sleaze balls are anything but local. They travel all around this nation leaving rage and pain in their wake, all the time claiming to be doing a service to God and assigning everybody but the ones in their motley group to hell.

Their faces are twisted with hate and the evil vitriolic poison level is so high in their blood that they can't even carry on a rational conversation.

When someone tries to engage them it seems all they're capable of saying is, "You're going to burn in hell", which is a pretty limited vocabulary, even for these narrow minded numbskulls.

Evidently they've invented their own "God," because the one they claim to serve has no resemblance to the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.

Their "God" can't be the same one about which the Holy Scriptures say, "God is love" or the one who said that though our sins be crimson He would forgive us and make us as white as snow, or the one who forgave King David after he stole a man's wife and had the man killed in battle.

Certainly He can't be the same one about which Jesus said, "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever would believe in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life."

That can't be the same "God" who "hates fags" and condones the protesting of the funerals of America's heroes or is represented by signs that inform the gentle Amish parents of brutally murdered children, "YOUR DAUGHTERS WERE WHORES AND ARE BURNING IN HELL" or allow words like '"THANK GOD FOR CANCER" to be uttered in His name.

Recently they protested at the funeral of Elizabeth Edwards, claiming that she went against God's will by having two more children after she lost her son in a car crash in 1996.

No, this can't be the same "God". The God of the Westboro Baptist Church is a God of evil and hurt, a God who contradicts the teachings of the Holy Bible, a God who has no love for anybody except the members of the Westboro Baptist Church, a God who condones the works of evil and hate.

No, these people have evidently invented their own "God" and made him out to be whatever fits their twisted purposes.

Anybody who thinks that the founders of our country ever meant for our constitutional rights to protect demented people going around disrupting the last rites of human beings and insulting suffering family members is wrong, really wrong.

The Westboro Baptist Church is not a place of salvation, it is a temple of hate and they are not immortal. They're just as susceptible to cancer and other disease as anybody else and as a cancer survivor I can guarantee you that if one of their hard hating members ever has a doctor tell them that they have a cancer in their body, the last thing on their minds will be…

Thank God for cancer.

Too bad they can't be charged with obsenity...

Submitted by VerityBrown on Tue, 12/14/2010 - 10:37pm.

We used to live in Topeka in the late 90s, and you couldn't drive around town without seeing these sub-humans and their offensive signs. It really bothered me that my kids were being subjected to the foul words and obscene graphics (stick figures of men engaging in "the act"). More than once I was tempted, while making a left on one of the corners they occupied (when they didn't have some event to disrupt), to "accidentally" let my steering wheel slip out of my hands. Good thing I have a better sense of ethical and moral behavior than they do. Looks like they need to read Matt. 7:21-23. Doing what they IMAGINE God wants them do, when it runs counter to His word and His example, is going to leave them very surprised in the end.

Funny thing about the times a hundred or two years ago, society was a bit more polite.  This was because if some yahoo was doing this then they would have been taught a valuable lesson.  The easy way or the hard way.  Radical differences were settle like men, sometimes with deadly consequences.

You had a problem with someone, you took it to the streets and you settled it.  Shame we can't go back to those days.

It's churches like this

Submitted by Iron Tigers Vet on Wed, 12/15/2010 - 9:00am.

that gives real Christians a bad name.  Born and raised a southern Baptist and I am truely disgusted to think that anyone could act like this would consider themselves a true Christian.

The actions look more like a liberal rally than a church... just saying!

WBC

Submitted by sarge329 on Fri, 12/17/2010 - 9:59am.

I had read somewhere that one of the side effects of inbreeding is mental illness. All that you have to do to suspect mental illness is look at some of the signs, listen to them, or watch  Now, I have had the misfortune of seeing these " people " on TV on numerous occasions, and their activities. Many of the members look astonishingly like each other. Almost like identical twins. This goes from one generation to the next. Am I saying that they are inbreds? No. But, when the parents of one generation look just like their kids, and each one of them is the spitting image of the other, well, you tell me what that means. Fortunately, nature has a way of weeding out those problems. It does take many, many years, but the gene pool will clean itself out.
