Egypt Aflame

By Cal Thomas | February 02, 2011 | 13:27

Cal Thomas's picture

The turmoil in Egypt must not be seen in isolation from other events in the world. Neither is it an aberration. It is the next scene in a long-running play whose final act is the domination of the world by radical Islamists.

The Obama administration has been delusional in its belief that dictators and religious fanatics can be coddled. It has also been dangerously wrong in thinking exposure to our way of life will make them more like us. In fact, such exposure has confirmed what they have been taught: that America and the West are secularists who mock God, sexualize women and live only for the pleasures of this world.

The history of radical Islamist movements is being repeated in our time. First there is infiltration and when their numbers are large enough, domination. Next comes subjugation, followed by eradication of nonbelievers. To think things will be different this time is folly.

Story Continues Below Ad ↓

The Muslim Brotherhood, which was founded in 1928 by Egyptian schoolteacher, Hassan al-Banna, is egging on the protestors in Egypt. The group's goal is to impose Islam on the world; its motto is: "Allah is our objective. The Prophet is our leader. Qur'an is our law. Jihad is our way. Dying in the way of Allah is our highest hope." No mosque-state separation there.

Western secularists either don't believe this, or stupidly think these beliefs can be overcome. In fact, the Muslim Brotherhood and their growing adherents, plan to overcome us and prove it daily.

"Not all Muslims are radicals." True. "Islam is fundamentally a peaceful religion." Also true. But the growing threat of radical Islam is real enough that we should be mindful of the exceptions, not the rule. To do otherwise dulls the senses and lulls us all into a false sense of security, which is exactly what our enemies want.

Daniel Pipes, director of the Middle East Forum, notes, "Islamists wish to repeat their success in Iran by exploiting popular unrest to take power." That strategy worked in Russia a century ago when the communists exploited grievances against the czar to grab power. It worked in Germany when the Nazis used German humiliation following World War I to ride to power. Now it is Egypt, Tunisia, Yemen, Jordan and Lebanon with more to come.

In her book, "Londonistan," Melanie Phillips writes, "we have long contracted our understanding of the extremists to the extremists." She means that instead of pursuing a policy to defeat radical Islamists, we have welcomed them among us. They are at the Department of Justice and Homeland Security, giving "sensitivity training" to people who are supposed to be protecting us from them. They are in prisons, organizing the disaffected into "hate America" cadres. They are military chaplains and in polling organizations, shaping the way questions are asked and manipulating results to further their interests.

This isn't "bigotry." It is provable fact, which the Islamists believe we will ignore.

One of our many errors occurred in the '90s when the clueless State Department thought the Palestinian Authority should have a democratic entity. It got behind Hamas (which the Muslim Brotherhood supports) and Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat as he perpetuated the mirage called the "the peace process." After all, State must have "reasoned," Hamas leaders speak English, attended schools in the West, understand the media and can be trusted to run AID projects. It was all wishful thinking. We now call Hamas a terrorist organization. Too late. For more background visit http://counterterrorismblog.org/.

If Egypt falls -- immediately, or ultimately -- to the Muslim Brotherhood, it will embolden other fanatical revolutions throughout the region and world. Then they'll come after the big prizes: Europe, which is almost gone, and America, which still has time to save itself, if it will climb out of denial which, as the joke goes, is not just a river in Egypt.

Last week, U.S. border guards got a surprise when they discovered the radical Muslim cleric, Said Jaziri, trying to sneak into the United States across the Mexican border. They're coming to America.

Rep. Peter King (R-NY) will soon hold hearings on the radicalization of Muslim communities in the U.S. Will he probe deeply enough? Muslim Brotherhood sympathizers will try to prevent him from doing so.

Wrong, Cal.

Submitted by Newsbubba on Wed, 02/02/2011 - 1:55pm.

Obama isn't "delusional" and he isn't mistaken about what is going on in the islamic world.

His plan is working out perfectly!  The caliphate is coming.

We are the stupid morons for giving the SOB the benefit of ANY doubt that he really "loves" this country and our way of life.

We can get over it or we can die.

Is that too violent for you?  Tough.

The war started long ago but

Submitted by MidAmerica on Wed, 02/02/2011 - 3:14pm.

The war started long ago but the West is retreating instead of engaging.

The Liberal delusion that they can control and use for their own benefit religious fanatics is leading us to a tipping point where if governments will not protect the non-Islamists then there will be a general uprising by ordinary citizens.

True democracy may be one of the casualties of the invasion.

Where is the USA heading?  Not too sure yet but we could end up like present day Russia where power is held by a ruling clique that will oppose the Islamist invaders.  There are three powers that can oppose the invaders, USA, Russia, and China.  Everyone else is at the mercy of the Liberal ideology of appeasement.

Q, if you were asking me?

Submitted by Newsbubba on Wed, 02/02/2011 - 3:48pm.

See MidAmerica's comment above.

We are AT WAR. in case you've never seen one up close!

The question is, do we fight and win, or do we just keep hoping that they will come to their senses and love us?

Islam has been at war with the "infidels" since its inception.  The world has fought back every few hundred years when forced to, but for some reason we can't get our heads around the fact that they are serious.

So if you're asking me if we should "eliminate Islam from the earth" my answer is, better them than us.  They truly intend to convert you to their way or eliminate you.

You choose.

Q's War

Submitted by Agnostic on Wed, 02/02/2011 - 4:02pm.

I've been inclined recently to believe that the only way to save millions of Islamic lives is the war that was started by Bush.  I didn't want to believe it but the psycology of a wounded nation coupled with the ability the Western World has to retaliate is hard to argue.  The most radical aspects of Islam are followed by people who have real power in the Islamic world and they will eventually strike with a weapon that will scare the world in an area outside the ME.  When this happens a very heavy hand is likely to strike back and potentially millions of Muslim lives will be lost.  This is an over-simplification and clearly not my idea but one that has been discussed on a few blogs lately.

Pakistani Nuclear Arms Pose Challenge to U.S. Policy - from the NYT

Pakistan Doubles it Nuclear Arsenal - From Washington Post

This is not about the administration though it could be it is about the media.  The US just signed an arms agreement and information in these articles should have been in every conversation about reducing the US capabilities for defense or nuclear arms but little was mentioned.  No doubt the articles were written but how was that information used - buried - thrown out without context - maybe, maybe not but definitely not highlighted when it should have been an important part of the discussion about arms races and treaties.

More to the point of the comment above is the Three Conjectures that have been written about on a few sites and while I don't agree with all the conclusions it does make a strong argument about fighting a war of containment before Nukes are no longer contained in the hands of "predictable" regimes/governments.

Confronting the real issue

Submitted by sam12663 on Wed, 02/02/2011 - 3:58pm.

will only occur when we stop believing this:

"Islam is fundamentally a peaceful religion"

Enough!! Enough of the equivications and cowtowing.

The Koran clearly states the ultimate goal of Islam is to control the world and eradicate all infidels. Can someone please explain to me how this is 'fundamentally peaceful'?

Social Security and Medi Care are no longer the '3rd rail' issues in America; it is the realization and acceptance  that we are facing a serious and impending crisis because of political correctness. How can we confront the issue if those in power refuse to see the reality of what we are up against?

Can we not see what has happened in Europe with the Islamification taking place there? Has American society become so secularized and insulated that we have become unwilling to confront the dangers we are now facing, all for fear of some perceived insult or perceived lack of 'acceptance'? The time has come for America to accept the fact that Islam is not the friendly religion many believe it is. This is not the Passover scene in The Ten Commandments. Simply closing our doors and smearing lambs blood on them will not make this problem pass us by.

Islam must be exposed for what it is, not for what we are led to believe it is.

Liberals lie, it's what they do.

Fundamental answer

Submitted by jon_torlin on Wed, 02/02/2011 - 8:06pm.

There's only one true answer to "peace" when it comes to Islam or any form of tyranny.

Peace is not the same as freedom.  Peace is the same as order.  When things are "in order," things are moving along without conflict, which is "peace."  The best way to look at it would be to look at Star Wars 3: Revenge of the Sith, how Emperor Palpatine talks about peace and order under his control.

But there would be no freedom.

To be or not to be

Submitted by MidAmerica on Wed, 02/02/2011 - 4:14pm.

Many Europeans are proud that they have turned their backs on their Christian heritage but now without any beliefs of their own to protect they will submit to domination by others.

In the USA we have many millions of Christian believers and a population of citizens motivated by self preservation and self motivation.  If push comes to shove in this country I believe that a strong military leader would be able to instantly gain the backing of a majority of the country.  We are a right of center country and we will not submit to foreign rule without a fight.
