Bozell Column: Obama's Latino Landslide?

By Brent Bozell | February 29, 2012 | 00:08

It seemed like someone had been inhaling something at CNN on Friday morning. They kept touting an upcoming interview: “Barack Obama could win the presidential election by a landslide. Op-ed contributor Charlie Garcia tells us how next.”

Garcia, a consultant to corporations on how to market to Hispanics, broke out rainbows and unicorns for Obama: “He’s doing all the right things. He’s basically saying, look, guys, comprehensive immigration reform. I’m all for it. It’s those Republicans that just keep getting in
the way.”

Neither Garcia nor his CNN anchor/enabler, Kyra Phillips, could recall that Democrats couldn’t get amnesty for illegal aliens (“comprehensive immigration reform”) passed when they controlled both the House and the Senate. So much for the canard that it’s the GOP’s fault. How
could he promise he can do it in a supposed second term, especially if Republicans make further
gains in Congress?

Don’t trouble Garcia with facts. “He wins by a landslide. And I think that the White House knows now that he has it locked. That’s why he’s on the air all time talking to Latinos about the things that are important to them.”

Where does CNN find these guys? Does no one vet them? Garcia was in exclamation-point mode about how Obama granted in interview to Eddie “Piolin” Sotelo, “the biggest radio star in the Hispanic world.....He’s the Rush Limbaugh of the Latinos.”

Garcia said that Obama told Piolin “‘I have five more years and I’ll get it done. He’s feeling pretty cocky and he should. I mean, you can accuse him of a lot of things, but he can count.”

Is that true? Did Obama really go on Spanish radio and claim a Republican Congress would support him? And no one challenged him? He said Republicans have “shown themselves unwilling to talk at all about any sensible solutions to this issue, and we’re going to have to just keep up the pressure until they act."

In his opinion piece on CNN.com, Garcia boasted, “After watching the Republican candidates lock the kryptonite that is the immigration issue around their necks during the Arizona debate, my bet is that President Barack Obama could win another term -- even if he loses key swing states such as Florida, Iowa, New Hampshire, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Wisconsin.”

Losing all those states wouldn’t make for a “landslide.” It will make for a loss.

Garcia told Kyra Phillips, “The President had issues with Latinos...[but] the Tea Party has the Republicans locked in, because they need to pander to the Tea Party to win the primary but they’re not going to be able to pivot back, because Latinos are looking for someone authentic. You can’t all of a sudden in August or September come back to Latino voters and say, ‘Oh I love you. I want immigration reform.’ They’re going to say you’re a phony.”

So how “authentic” is Obama when he sidelined this supposed gold mine of a political issue to sell Obamacare, insisting all the way that his health “reform” wouldn’t cover illegal aliens? In fact, he was openly denounced by liberals for abandoning the issue. “He is the deportation president,” said “undocumented activist” Daniel Rodriguez in Time magazine. Time’s cover carried the words “Yo Decido: Why Latinos will pick the next president.”

This is odd, since whites are still 64 percent of the population. Time and CNN select the Latino vote as crucial because they want to make the Republicans cry uncle on amnesty. Time’s Michael Scherer began his cover story by slamming Gov. Jan Brewer for “the most incendiary
immigration law in the country.”

But who made that law a national issue? The liberal media did. They put all the political pressure on anyone opposed to illegal immigration. It was “incendiary” despite a Rasmussen poll finding 70 percent of Arizonans supported the tougher law. The Obama-obedient media never found it “incendiary” for Obama to announce in 2011 that he was suspending most deportations in a transparently political move.

Take a look at the numbers from the Pew Hispanic Center, which estimated that 69 percent of Latinos voted for Democrats in 2006 and 67 percent for Obama in 2008. But in 2010, that percentage dropped to 60 percent, even though liberals surely tried to make Tea Party “racism” an issue to Latino voters.

Republicans shouldn’t write off the Latino vote, but they can wonder how much of that nine-percent slice of Latinos would switch to Republicans if they Xeroxed the liberal amnesty position. CNN and Time could wonder if Obama will hurt his Latino “landslide” by canceling pipelines and signaling a hard-left position on abortion, gay marriage, and religious liberty. But they’re too busy celebrating and pandering to minority voters as the most crucial, special voters of all.

Illegals have committed numerous crimes in the U.S. and this is TOTALLY ignored by everyone in the media and of course, the DNC.

Illegals have commited crimes in the US - Really?

Submitted by Gary Hall on Wed, 02/29/2012 - 1:56am.

So . . rbosque . . .

Take this little tid-bit, from the SacBee on April 21, 2011 -- not that our national media would ever consider informing the broad voting public:

The number of criminal aliens incarcerated in California rose to 102,795 in 2009, a 17 percent increase since 2003, federal auditors reported Thursday [..]

• Many are also repeat offenders. GAO auditors say that, based on a survey, criminal alien inmates have been arrested an average of seven different times.

Hey folks - that's over 700.000 convictions - in CA alone. Chew on those rapes, murders and burglaries, would you?

Someone needs to tell the Dems that our immigration laws work...

Submitted by Phryj1 on Wed, 02/29/2012 - 12:49am.

...just fine as long as would-be immigrants follow them and authorities enforce them.

The ONLY reason Dems push for 'comprehensive immigration reform' is to pander for Hispanic votes. Once again, the Dems wrap themselves in the soft bigotry of lowered expectations. It's about time someone called out the Dems on their divisive and condescending race pandering.

Progressives seem to be completely averse to facts and logic. Apparently, reality has a conservative bias.

They want the illegal aliens voting and in return they will give them amnesty and citizenship.
You do not need to promise immigration reform to people who are here legally.

They simply plan on the media

Submitted by MrSnuggles on Wed, 02/29/2012 - 2:22am.

They simply plan on the media not talking about issues that hispanics will go republican on, like abortion and freedom of religion. They will hammer republicans on their opposition to illegal immigration, which the media calls "immigration".

Make sure none of the current administration's anti-Catholic and anti-Christian Obamacare regulations get covered on TeleMundo news. Keep that news exclusively anti-illegal immigration, but conveniently leave out the "illegal" aspect.

Our "Scary" President

Submitted by berlet98 on Wed, 02/29/2012 - 2:21am.

Our "Scary" President

Less than four months into the presidency of Barack Hussein Obama, Lou Pritchett, a former vice president of Procter and Gamble, posted an open letter to Obama on his blog which began, “Dear President Obama: You are the thirteenth President under whom I have lived and unlike any of the others, you truly scare me.”

The original missive had been sent by the legendary corporate legend, noted public speaker, author, and teacher to the New York Times which chose not to print it although less distinguished publications did. It was subsequently accorded the seal of accuracy by leftist-leaning Snopes.com and only now has gone viral.

In retrospect, it’s understandable why the Times, a principal MSM Obama lackey, wanted no part of Pritchett’s letter but Obamians predictably came out in force to condemn Pritchett for his stupidity, ignorance, inaccuracies, and venom for daring to express his viewpoints on their Anointed One.

The letter reflects the author’s early and insightful realization that America was in serious trouble with our new leader and commander-in-chief.

Just months into Obama’s tenure, Pritchett noted Obama was unfit for office by virtue of his murky background, lack of experience and qualifications, radical past associations, arrogant sense of omnipotence and omniscience, his demonization of all opponents, and his extreme spending and health care plans which have since come to fruition.

In what is easily the scariest feature of Pritchett’s alarm was citing Obama’s mainstream media for its failure to vet candidate Obama as it had always done with previous presidential hopefuls and, since his election, has given him a free ride, never questioning his motives, never investigating his claims, never doubting his sincerity.

The remainder of Lou Pritchett’s letter follows: (Read more at http://www.genelalor.com/blog1/?p=15150.)

When Democrats say "Immigration reform"

Submitted by c5then on Wed, 02/29/2012 - 9:28am.

That is code for allowing all the illegals currently here to become resident aliens with an easy path to citizenship. When they say "comprehensive immigration reform" that means the above, while also keeping the southern border as open as possible for more to come across.

The domocrats know that while "Hispanics" (or is it Latinos?) are generally Catholic, religious and socially conservative, they can be counted on to support what is in their immediate best interest over other more esoteric concerns. So, while a logical and objective observer might conclude that most Hispanics would actually gravitate toward the GOP, the need and desire to stay in this country and provide a better future for their children will far outweigh any other considerations. This is why the democrats play up the emotional issues associated with the illegal immigration debate. Hispanics have an emotional culture and are more easily manipulated by emotions.

Any candidate that allows the press to use the term immigrant, when we are really talking about illegal immigrants, is doing the work for the left.

President Obama is a Muslim (from his own lips), Kenyan (read it from his publicist) a homosexual (read it on a news magazine cover) and a Socialist (I'm alive and can see it for myself)

The left's only way to get the Hispanic vote is to defame Marco Rubio. They know it, we know it, and that is exactly what they are doing.

To more fully comprehend the Left, one must read “Leftism As Psychopathy” by John Ray, M.A., Ph.D. Caution, it might scare you a little bit.

Back in 2008 America was

Submitted by Rusty Shackleford on Wed, 02/29/2012 - 12:30pm.

Back in 2008 America was suffering from Obama-mania a yet he only got 53% of the vote. Today the only ones still suffering from Obama-mania are journalists. Even most of his default supporters like union goons and the young and clueless that can still be counted for votes have lost their enthusiasm.

Ask yourself: have you met anyone in the past 4 years who was an Obama supporter but is not one now? Have you met anyone in the past 4 years who was not an Obama supporter but has become one?

That 3% is an awfully small margin and even though journalists love him as much today as they did in 2008, most other Americans are sick of this guy. Even a terrible Republican candidate stands a good chance against him because Obama faced a terrible Republican candidate in 2008 and didn't really win by all that much when you consider Obama was our first messianic candidate for president who could actually walk on water!
