Bozell Column: Moyers Loves Reverend Wright

The Bill Moyers PBS interview of Barack Obama’s long-time minister, Reverend Jeremiah Wright, underlined once again that our tax dollars don’t fund programs championing racial harmony. They fund programs that celebrate black radicals, militants, and kooks. Moyers came to Rev. Wright’s side not to condemn him or even challenge him, but to praise him and defend him. As he implored Wright to explain his "God damn America" sermon, Wright at least said he was free in America to denounce America. To which Moyers replied: "Well, you can be almost crucified for saying what you've said here in this country."

Bill Moyers wants us to see Jeremiah Wright as the Jesus Christ of our time?

Moyers cast him as a demonized victim: "Did you ever imagine that you would come to personify the black anger that so many whites fear?" All this was pandering of the worst sort, since the Wrong Reverend Wright and his mouthpieces have been talking up the idea of the media crucifying him, even as the Obama-loving media have labored to downplay his speeches and keep him out of the headlines. Wright lapped up every ounce of sympathy Moyers brought, and fully agreed that he and Martin Luther King have been "crucified by corporate-owned media," since they are willing to decry racism, militarism, capitalism, and America.

He accepted the Moyers premise: "That's true. But you can be crucified, you can be crucified publicly, you can be crucified by corporate-owned media. But I mean, what I just meant was, you can be killed in other countries by the government for saying that. Dr. King, of course, was vilified. And most of us forget that after he was assassinated, but the year before he was assassinated, April 4th, 1967 at the Riverside Church, he talked about racism, militarism and capitalism. He became vilified. He got ostracized not only by the majority of Americans in the press; he got vilified by his own community."

Pardon me if I can’t exactly remember Walter Cronkite vilifying Martin Luther King for opposing the Vietnam War.

Wright’s answer underlines something that our race-obsessed press is missing. This controversy is not simply about race. This minister is a radical leftist. Along with leftists like Cornel West and Michael Eric Dyson, Wright loves how Rev. King denounced the American war machine in that 1967 speech, as this "demonic destructive suction tube," and smeared black and white American soldiers, who allegedly would unite in destroying the poor Vietnamese: "we watch them in brutal solidarity burning the huts of a poor village, but we realize that they would hardly live on the same block in Chicago."

The America-hatred flowed in that speech, just as it does from Reverend Wright: the Vietnamese "move sadly and apathetically as we herd them off the land of their fathers into concentration camps where minimal social needs are rarely met. They know they must move on or be destroyed by our bombs."

Radical leftists ignored how the concentration camps came to Vietnam after the Americans withdrew.

Moyers and Reverend Wright are two peas in a pod in thinking the "corporate-owned media" were part of the war machine, then and again now. Moyers asked Wright why Americans were so intolerant of criticism of their country: "What is your notion of why so many Americans seem not to want to hear the full Monty? They don't want to seem to acknowledge that a nation capable of greatness is also capable of cruelty?"

That’s turning patriotic Americans into straw men who can’t acknowledge our soldiers are "capable" of cruelty. Clearly, some soldiers go astray, and then they are prosecuted. But Moyers & Wright & Co. suggest by their rhetoric that cruelty is our military modus operandi, approved at the highest levels of bureaucracy, and that cruelty is typical, and universal, even if bravery and charity are much more common. That’s why they hate America.

Bill Moyers should be seen by more people as more like Jeremiah Wright – a bitter old man who spins vile conspiracy theories about America as a ruthless warrior-state. It should come as no surprise that he and Wright would see bilious eye to bilious eye on how this country has been ruined by conservatives, those cruel racists, those capitalists, and those militarists. God damn America!

The week before his Wright interview, Moyers denounced ABC’s Charlie Gibson and George Stephanopoulos for raising questions Obama didn’t want raised. He called it "journalistic narcissism." But this interview was typical Moyers narcissism. He thinks every other liberal journalist isn’t giving Wright enough time and space to speak the truth. He wants to be the referee of the national conversation, and he wants it to be an incredibly one-sided diatribe, a radical Wright sermon on how America needs to be purged of its poisonous conservatism.

What a load of crock

Everyone needs to remember that YOUR tax money is funding this BS. Moyers and Wright are so far left of center that only the destruction of United States of America will sooth their anger, as least until a new objective can be found.

"Did you ever imagine that you would come to personify the black anger that so many whites fear?" -Moyers

Get is right Moyers, we, the "Whites" don't fear the black anger that you suggest. In reality, we're getting freaking mad as hell about it. Rev. Wright and people like Moyers have become the main reason that main-stream America is beginning to fight back. No longer will we let individuals like you tell us how we feel and how we must subject ourselves to your brand of logic. This is America and is still considered the great melting pot. Get over your hatred for other races, religion, and yes, political thinking. We are here to stay and will continue to fight for the liberties allowed by the Constitution of the United States of America.

My best suggestion to Moyer and Wright, love it or leave it. There's a airplane leaving every hour to another country. Not shut up, your 15 minutes of defame is up.

During this time with political correctness at its zenith, I reserve the right to let you know you're an idiot.

Who is the racist?

Imagine the outcry and moral indignation there would be from the main stream media if the following...

"This is not an attack on Jeremiah Wright,"
Wright told the Washington media Monday. "It has nothing to do with
Senator Obama. It is an attack on the black church launched by people
who know nothing about the African-American religious tradition."

...were said by a white "reverend", to wit:

"This is not an attack on Jeremiah Whiteman,"
Whiteman told the Washington media Monday. "It has nothing to do with
Senator Whiteguy. It is an attack on the white church launched by people
who know nothing about the white, anglo-saxon protestant religious tradition."

They would immediately be blasted for their racism and association with the KKK or some other kook organisation. In my estimation, folks like Wright, Farakhan, et al., are promoting the very thing they say they are fighting against. Perhaps this is the greatest tragic irony of our day!

It is an attack on the

It is an attack on the black church launched by people
who know nothing about the African-American religious tradition."

So,  Rev. Wright is saying it's  in the "African-American religious tradition" to rage against and condemn one's country?

If that's true, then we have a big problem.

The only shows I watch on

The only shows I watch on PBS are Austin City Limits and Antique Roadshow. The NEWS is so slanted to left and I feel that our tax dollars should used to close the network down - not keep it going. I feel the same way about CSpan and NPR. If anyone doubts it, all they have to do is watch or listen to one of these hideous channels to show that we do not have an impartial press in America.

At least I have the freedom to change the channel...

Hi marpel...C-SPAN

Hi marpel...

C-SPAN isn't funded via tax paying dollars like PBS and NPR...anyway not last I heard that is...lol.

Here is a quick link...it tells you how they are funded right on the front there...

Hi, Bigtimer

Thanks for the update and info. I was always told that CSpan was partially government funded...Thanks for clearing that up. M :o)

Stood to close to the curb Bill...

I wonder what ole Bill must be thinking now that Obama threw Wright under the bus? An hour of lib spin-and-grin, down the tubes. HA! HA!

Mr. Bozell

The best answer I can give for this lovefest between the two is that they are both apostates. They quit beleiving the Bible years ago. Now they have been turned over to a reprobate mind like Paul mentions in Romans 1.

"A pharisee is hard on others and easy on himself, but a spiritual man is easy on others and hard on himself." A.W. Tozer (Pharisee=modern day liberal)

Fine

Moyers can "love his neighbor as himself" all he wants, TRUSTING that neighbor is a completely different story. This is where Moyer's demonstrates, flamboyantly, his namby-pamby-ism and milquetoast-ness.

And therein lies the rub for Obama (and his wife), his long-term trust in a rabid and lying racist. Maybe Obama's tossing Wright under the bus today will be believed.

I don't buy it, and never will buy the words Obama speaks in opposition to Wright. Twenty years of silence negates anything he may now say. Some may forget, I will not.

Namby pambiness, girly-men,

Namby pambiness, girly-men, wussies all must be the new norm for TV male journalists. If you doubt think about the following "male" journalists: Chrissy Matthews, Harry Smith, Matt Lauer, Bill Moyers. Please feel free to add to this list.

"Reverend" Wright needs to

"Reverend" Wright needs to re-visit the Ten Commandments, specifically #1. What he and others of his ilk have done is to make an idol out of their race, and that is what they worship.

Even A Broken Clock Can Be Right Twice A Day...

I do believe Pastor Wright is a broken clock, but a broken clock can be right twice a day. For example, he's dead right on the issue of the three strikes law. It is one of the most dispicaple, reprehensible laws I have ever seen get passed in California. Most of the people who get victimized by this crime against liberty are not violent criminals. It usually targets reformed inmates who gave up their life of crime before it was too late to redeem themselves. Most of these people are one strike away from losing their freedom for life. It doesn't even have to be a violent crime. It could be something as petty as accidentally pocketing a candy bar or any other misdemeanor. And no one will speak out to reform this disgrace to justice except for the kinks and the kooks like Pastor Wright.

Of course you can get as much as four months probation for molesting a 4yr. old in Vermont.

Seems judges have a habit of proving many times over why mandatory sentences and recidivism laws are eventually demanded by citizens.

Hey howdy cool..this

Hey, howdy Cool...

This is an aside from what you two are talking about I know...but when I left last night we were talking about the states besides Ill. then I mentioned Texas to you, then in another post I mentioned another little state (meaning populated) about how Kennedy got elected...do you remember what thread that was on? I have looked high and low for it to see what you may have answered if you did..it was getting late and I closed out.

Just curious...thanks.

You realize Jesus wasn't the first or last person to be crucified?
