Tonight on the Fox News Channel: 'Behind the Bias: The History of Liberal Media'

By Brent Baker | April 22, 2011 | 18:28

Brent Baker's picture

Tonight (Friday) the Fox News Channel will air a Hannity special, in Sean Hannity's usual time slot, ‘Behind the Bias: The History of Liberal Media.’

The promo declares: “Double standards? Groundless attacks? Blatant bias? Sean calls out the mainstream media! Don’t miss Behind the Bias: The History of Liberal Media.”

It will run for the hour at 9 PM EDT/8 PM CDT/7 PM MDT/6 PM PDT. It will re-run at midnight EDT/11 PM CDT/10 PM MDT/9 PM PDT.

The Media Research Center made available to Fox News Channel producers video clips from our archive going back more than 20 years, so the program should feature a lot of examples of TV network liberal media bias from the past two decades.

MRC President Brent Bozell was also interviewed for the special and should appear along with other conservatives who have battled or documented liberal media bias.

Barf bag included?

Submitted by brutony1 on Fri, 04/22/2011 - 6:59pm.

They should go back 40 years, back when I first became aware of it all, what with the rise of inflation, of course "The War", and then Watergate, thats all I heard about Nixon being the cause of all the worlds problems. But then when Dhimmi Crater took office, all was right with the world, and he was simply an unmitigated disaster! But the left winged media never said a word against him, and thats what turned me to the Right side!
Should be an interesting show, which I'll watch after Friday Night Lights-man does not live by politics alone-hey, if the president can watch shows and be entertained, so can I, lol!

The slide from bias to partisanship

Submitted by Chris Norman on Fri, 04/22/2011 - 9:07pm.

I remember watching television news and reading the major news magazines (Time and Newsweek) back in the Seventies and early Eighties, hoping that I'd hear or read something positive about Gerald Ford, then Ronald Reagan, or just a supportive word about Republicans. By the middle of Reagan's first term, I knew that the media was dead set against Republicans in general and Conservatives in particular.
Over the years, the original thinly veiled bias has become blatant on the broadcast networks, rabidly blatant in Time and Newsweek, and downright poisonous and vitriolic on MSNBC.
The arched eyebrows, the skeptical tones, the choice of words, and the airtime in favor of the Democrats has given way to out and out partisan cheer leading in favor of the Democrats in general and liberals in particular everywhere. About he only bias deniers are those who engage in the bias on a daily basis.
Thank goodness for the MRC and News Busters. Before them, I thought I was about the only one who saw this bias..

Youre preaching to the choir, brother!

Submitted by brutony1 on Fri, 04/22/2011 - 11:31pm.

I was waiting and waiting, esp once I officially became a Republican, for the good word on Reagan, but they werent doing it. I thought it was something I hadnt noticed, but I realized theres us, and theres the libs, and it just got progressively worse. What kills me is when a Dem is lousy, they wont break down and admit it!

Need someone else doing it.

Submitted by GregE on Fri, 04/22/2011 - 9:14pm.

Bernie Goldberg or someone else. There is something about Hannity that I've never taken to, whether it be TV or radio. With most, I can listen or watch for the duration. With Hannity, a few minutes is plenty.

My perspective on Hannity........

Submitted by GregE on Fri, 04/22/2011 - 9:55pm.

......mostly radio, because on TV his having guests makes a difference. With radio, it's all him......

Whereas Rush, Savage, Levin, Beck, and others (including the local afternoon guy in my city) are able to give their own thoughts and ideas on a matter, break things down and get the listeners wheels turning , Hannity doesn't. He can't. He's not engaging. He repeats talking points, like he knows a few things and that's it and he keeps coming back to those few things. He repeats what others say. He doesn't analyze a situation they way the others do. He too often (more than others) seems Republican before he's conservative. It's very hard to describe, but it's why I say I can't take him in large doses. Delivery is a part of it. To me he's an amateur trying to get someone to listen to what he has to say, yet what he has to say isn't insightful and doesn't grab, because I've already heard what he has to say, and if where I heard it was from him, I've heard it multiple times.

Just my $.02. Obviously MILLIONS of people think differently than me. LOL

of Hannity than $.02, for the reason that I agree completely with your articulate opinion of him. In other words, I couldn't have expressed it better myself.

How did he get to be so successful?

Submitted by Chris Norman on Fri, 04/22/2011 - 10:49pm.

Not to sound like a pretentious liberal, but Hannity lacks any nuance or cleverness. He's intelligent, but not intelligent, if that makes any sense. You're right, he repeats talking points over and over again. He doesn't offer much original or insightful analysis on his own. Rush is clever and frequently funny. Rush and others offers opinions and analysis that I would never have thought of. With Hannity, it's pretty much obvious conventional conservative/Republican wisdom. Like I said, he's about as nuanced and articulate as a sledge hammer. I have to give him credit for bringing up subjects that might otherwise not be discussed, but I have long since given up on his follow through. I'm glad he has guests that fill the void he leaves. I'm just not certain why his radio show is the second most listened to in the country. He's no better than many of the local or second tier national conservative radio hosts. Give me Laura Ingraham any day....

Well, just finished watching it. It was ok, just a broad overview with a few examples thrown in.

I would love to see some more in depth looks at the bias of the libturds.  Maybe a bi-weekly half hour show?

Well, there is the weekly

Submitted by Chris Norman on Sat, 04/23/2011 - 10:19pm.

Well, there is the weekly News Watch on Fox, but that show has degenerated over the years, by having on professional liberal rabblerousers like Alan Comes and Ellis Hennican to shut down any discussion of bias by filibustering the conversation. These guys won't permit any suggestion that the media is biased in any instance, no matter how blatant the example. Plus, the discussions have more and more frequently focused on the subject matter of the biased coverage rather than the biased coverage itself. It has become just another political argument show.

I still say that Fox News

Submitted by Chris Norman on Fri, 04/22/2011 - 11:17pm.

I still say that Fox News should replace their increasingly unwatchable "NewsWatch" show (where the liberal panel members dominate the discussion and the arguments are more about the subjects of the biased news reports themselves and less about the biased coverage) with a show along the lines of News Busters produced by Brent Bozell or Tim Graham. Either that or put a muzzle on Alan Colmes and forcibly make him just listen with an occasional "mmmmmmm...!"

I second that appreciation

Submitted by Boil It Down on Sat, 04/23/2011 - 4:23am.

I am sure that the MRC has more than enough in the archives to research the liberal bias for a weekly episode on 6 to 10 examples of liberal bias. I believe it would wind up looking like FOX was deliberately targeting NBC/MSNBC since they are the most frequent and outspoken offenders. My concern would be that it might start a pissing war that would distract attention from vital issues. -bidn-

Missed it! Will it be shown again?

Submitted by NC Boy on Sat, 04/23/2011 - 9:40am.

Fox does a lousy job with promos, plus the DVR schedule never shows when they pre-empt a regular show during the night for one of these specials.

Thats true

Submitted by brutony1 on Sat, 04/23/2011 - 2:35pm.

But they show it repeatedly on the weekends. The trouble is you dont know when its going to be on, so you have to watch it constantly! Not a chance, what with their endless, repetitive commercials-if they show that friggin Campbell Soup crap one more time, Im going to throw my soup cans at the TV! Just tune in at the top of each hour-usually its in the evenings.
