CBS Decides Wisconsin State Workers Underpaid, FNC Shows Doctor’s Notes Scam
CBS on Monday night tried to corroborate the case for the position on protesting Wisconsin state union workers, claiming without citing any source that they earn less than comparable private sector works, while FNC put the union workers in a less oppressed light, showing how “apparent doctors” were “handing out doctor’s notes for sick days. Our undercover producer got a medical excuse, no illness necessary.”
CBS’s Cynthia Bowers touted “high school history teacher Amanda Bazan, of Deerfield Wisconsin,” who “took a personal day to get her students to the protests.” Bazan insisted: “They were learning about democracy firsthand.” Bowers relayed how “the single mom has been teaching 13 years and earns $41,000,” and while “public sector workers in Wisconsin do make slightly more in salary and benefits than the average private sector worker,” that's “because nearly twice as many of them have college degrees necessary for high-skilled jobs.” Without any citation from her or on screen, Bowers maintained:
When education and other factors are considered, two recent studies found public sector employees end up earning less than their counterparts in the private sector. In Wisconsin, nearly five percent less. Nationally seven percent less.
Surely not considered in whatever studies those were, the value of a guaranteed job which means those with a government job never have times in their careers when they are unemployed.
FNC wasn’t in the tank for the unions. On Special Report with Bret Baier :
MIKE TOBIN: Controversy started over the weekend when apparent doctors, some linked to the University of Wisconsin, were handing out doctor’s notes for sick days. Our undercover producer got a medical excuse, no illness necessary.
DOCTOR: You have to give me the days that you’ve been sick and had to miss work.
PRODUCER: Last Thursday.
DOCTOR: Okay.
PRODUCER: And so we’re probably going to go through next Tuesday, if that’s okay.
DOCTOR: Okay. Yeah, a lot of people have been sick in the same way.
From the Monday, February 21 CBS Evening News:
HARRY SMITH: Politicians and labor leaders all over the country are paying close attention to what's happening at Wisconsin's statehouse. Today both sides in that high-stakes budget battle dug in a little further and what's happening there could play out in many other states. From Madison, here's Cynthia Bowers.
PROTESTERS: Tell me what democracy looks like. This is what democracy looks like.
CYNTHIA BOWERS: On the seventh day of protests, neither side appeared ready to back down.
PROTESTERS: Scott Walker has got to go! Hey hey, ho ho!
BOWERS: Scott Walker's plan would require most of the state's public employees to pay more for their pension and health care. Many workers say they'll grudgingly accept that, but they won't accept his plan to ban unions from bargaining on issues other than wages.
AMANDA BAZAN, HIGH SCHOOL TEACHER: -union power. It's the right to be in the union and the right to protect my job and have a say in what I do everyday.
BOWERS: High school history teacher Amanda Bazan, of Deerfield Wisconsin, took a personal day to get her students to the protests.
BAZAN: They were learning about democracy firsthand.
BOWERS: The single mom has been teaching 13 years and earns $41,000.
What do you say to taxpayers who say, you know what? This has been a great ride for everybody but we just really can't afford to keep footing the bill?
BAZAN: We've already given up things. We don't have a cushy ride. I'm not getting rich off becoming a teacher.
BOWERS: In fact, public sector workers in Wisconsin do make slightly more in salary and benefits than the average private sector worker. In part that's because nearly twice as many of them have college degrees necessary for high-skilled jobs. When education and other factors are considered, two recent studies found public sector employees end up earning less than their counterparts in the private sector. In Wisconsin, nearly five percent less. Nationally seven percent less. But the Governor's supporters say his plan is what the majority wants.
NATHAN FRIEDL, TEA PARTY MEMBER: I think the real message was sent in November, people coming out and voting and voting very distinctly for the Governor.
BOWERS: As for tomorrow, Wisconsin teachers are supposed to be back in the classroom. Republican lawmakers will be back in session here. The big unknown is whether those 14 missing Democrats who fled the state five days ago to delay a vote on the Governor’s plan, will come back too.

The woman may earn $41,000 but was that before or after taxes? Was she full time or a teacher's aide? Does that include all her pension and health care benefits, her sick days and personal days....? Keep in mind that she also gets 12 -13 weeks a year off in the summer and with holidays. I saw the report. It was weak and vague. I also have seen on other websites teachers earning $100,000. CBS was clearly being deceptive.

$89K w/ benefits is what I heard on radio. Was in the mid-$50K range w/o benefits. I say their numbers are bogus and clearly do not include benefits or time off. So the MSM is lying once again to support their agenda! Why even call it news? It is a propaganda device!
How about calling their shows more realistic names? Can you all come up with a few? Like instead of "Nightly News with ..." it is? I am sure there are some good ones they can adopt and be dead accurate! LOL.

I come from a family of teachers, so I'm not out to disparage them. But teachers work approximately 9 months of the year. Multiply $41,000 by 1.3 and compare that to the average Wisconsin salary.
Also, factor in their generous health and pension packages, and the fact that most will retire before age 65.

When teachers show us some better results, then pay can be a legitimate argument. As it stands, our education system is in shambles and many (not all) teachers are simply there for a check.

Who the hell is forcing these people to stay in jobs they feel are underpaid?
As a teenager, I once worked in a ice cream store for $1.75/hour. The pay stunk so after a while I quit and got a higher paying job. That's the way it works with most people.
But apparently CBS thinks she not only needs to NOT contribute to her insurance and pension, she deserves a big raise on top of it.
PS: Man up, Harriet Smith. CBS fired you because you suck... develop some self-respect and quit hanging on by your toenails.

CBS Numbers do not mean a thing....

I for one could care less if these numbers were accurate (which they probably are not since a source is not sited) because public employees should not be permitted to unionize irregardless of the pay and benefits.
It's the ability of the unions to take taxpayer dollars and put it into thier little funds. Then they turn around and use it to back campaigns of politicians that will cave to thier pay and benefit demands.
It would be like my Dad's union (he's a welder/steel worker) using their union funds to force a new CEO at his company and then the CEO turns around and grants everything to the union employees with out regards to profits and the company's ability to pay.
Then the CEO turns to it's customers and says guess what prices are going up and you will pay...I have union workers to keep promises too......now that just doesn't make an any fricken sense does it?
Down with public unions and Mr. Walker keep up the good fight.
I had to explain it to my dad in those terms because he was upset that I was against unions. I gave more than just that example and he said that he never looked at it in that light. I told him that is why I don't like public workers unionized. I said if private sector workers want to lump themselves together so that even the worthless worker gets advanced and paid just like the good worker so be it. Just don't complain when you have to pick up their slack and your raise is the same as his.

CBS comparing it nationally is a farce!!!!!
Submitted by NavyBuckeye on Tue, 02/22/2011 - 11:30am.
CBS comparing Wisconsin wages with anything nationaly is a farce. The cost of living varies so much that someone doing the same job two states over can make $20,000 more a year. They fail to mention that even thought the guy 2 states over makes more he is also paying more for: cars, taxes, food, house and everything else. So it is not a fair comparison.
Doctor Scam, sick Teachers etc.

Well, Gov Walker no problem, have the State Health and Human Services declare a state emergency start calling in sick teachers for evaluation and if there is no sickness review the" Not TO Work Notes" then turn them over to the State Medical Board and and have the doctors barred from practicing in the state or really big fines. Of course this will take time but, until the boy Democrats come back to chambers what else is there to do. I realize it is more complicated than that but it would be a start. Hell, this could become fun.
Teacher and Doctor stupidity brilliantly exposed

As seen on Fox this morning:
Then the Teacher-Doctor talked together, with the Doctor suggesting the Teacher was under stress, and the Teacher emphasized that she was {holding fingers apart} this close to a complete breakdown.
But she sure didn't sound like she was this close to a breakdown. It simply sounded like she was an activist, and didn't mind breaking the law whatsoever -- everyone's lying eyes to the contrary.
And CBS couldn't report on that? Typical MSM agenda-keepers. Keep the public completely uninformed, and make up the rest.

I have watched all of the channels to get an across the board comparison of how this gets reported. One need not be a genius to see the discrepancy in reporting. The MSM understands of course how they report, and accept the loss of viewers. Seems not to bother them in the least.
Knowing many union folks like most, it is a simple matter to swat down their responses to this, as they just don't get it. Shame, but it is the way things are today. I want, I want....sums it up.
"Education"???
Submitted by iveseenitall on Tue, 02/22/2011 - 11:45am.
In many states there are proposals to close down public schools, raisng class sizes to as much as 60 in those which remain open. Can you imagine "teaching" in an inner-city class of 60? Most teachers can't do it with 30. If this is a solution to a major American problem ( lack of education in a failed system), why bother? Just close up the public schools and let 'em run wild in the streets. "Students" are already running wild in classrooms. BTW, this entire mess has been caused by P.C., permissiveness and lack of discipline --- in other words "liberalism" and "progressivism".

Well, first of all .. the data shows that State workers are NOT paid less than private workers, but that's immaterial to the concept that IF THEY WANT TO MAKE MORE MONEY THEN THEY CAN LEAVE THEIR "PIDDLY" PUBLIC JOBS AND GO WORK IN THE PRIVATE SECTOR! These are the same brainiacs that cry when little Johnny is "forced" to play sports at school and his team loses. Why do I have to share my planet with IDIOTS?!
Again .. they are making as much or more than private sector workers, and when teachers are paid $105,000 in compensation, they simply are being paid WAY too much for a part-time job! Plus, the fact that they, unlike a private sector worker, can screw around and not get fired for it!
Union busting? Well, that's NOT what Walker is doing. But if it were ME, hell yeah .. I'd outlaw public sector unions! Unions: decimating industry, the economy, and work ethic since 1935!
