Cantor's Promise to Hold Oversight Hearings Prompts CBS to Regurgitate Impeachment and Cite 'Witch-Hunt' Fears
Contrasting a “contrite” President Obama with a “less conciliatory” Republican Senate leader Mitch McConnell, CBS reporter Nancy Cordes on Thursday night conveyed Democratic concern about likely House Majority Leader Eric Cantor's pledge to hold oversight hearings as she recalled “a barrage of damaging probes, one of which ended in impeachment hearings.”
Cantor, Cordes asserted, has called “for more investigations into the administration, with quote 'one major oversight hearing each week.' That worries Democrats, who remember what happened the last time Republicans controlled the House during a Democratic presidency.” She then challenged Darrell Issa, now the ranking minority member on the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform: “Democrats have said that you're going to start a witch-hunt against the President if Republicans take control.”
From the Thursday, November 4 CBS Evening News:
KATIE COURIC: President Obama will board Air Force One tomorrow for his longest foreign trip since he took office. A ten-day visit to Asia, with stops in India, Indonesia, South Korea and Japan. The President says one of his aims will be to get those countries to open their markets to more American products. Now, when he comes home the President will turn his attention to domestic political issues. Nancy Cordes, I understand Nancy the President is offering the legislative branch an olive branch.
NANCY CORDES: That's right, Katie. It's been two days now since his self-described shellacking and the President is still contrite. Today he invited Democratic and Republican leaders to the White House for a meeting later this month and said he hopes they'll stay for dinner.
PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA: I want us to talk substantively about how we can move the American people's agenda forward. It's not just going to be a photo-op.
CORDES: But Republican Senate Leader Mitch McConnell was less conciliatory.
SENATOR MITCH McCONNELL: If the administration wants cooperation, it will have to begin to move in our direction.
CORDES: In a speech today, McConnell said his top priority is to repeal the President's signature achievement, the health care reform bill.
Story Continues Below Ad ↓McCONNELL: We can and should propose and vote on straight repeal repeatedly. But we can't expect the President to sign it. So we'll also have to work in the House on denying funds for implementation.
CORDES: That strategy was embraced by Eric Cantor of Virginia, who is expected to be second in command of the new House majority. In a 22-page document outlining his agenda, Cantor also calls for more investigations into the administration, with quote “one major oversight hearing each week.” That worries Democrats, who remember what happened the last time Republicans controlled the House during a Democratic presidency.
FROM HEARING: The President also denied having sexual relations-
CORDES: A barrage of damaging probes, one of which ended in impeachment hearings. Congressman Darrell Issa of California will chair the powerful House oversight committee.
CORDES, TO ISSA: Democrats have said that you're going to start a witch-hunt against the President if Republicans take control.
CONGRESSMAN DARRELL ISSA: Certainly there are a lot of things that every administration would like to not have looked at. In our case, what we have to look at is the growth of government and the waste in government. And that's what we're going to do.
CORDES: House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is talking to Democrats to try to figure out her next move, but already one Democrat has said she should step down from leadership and another has said he might run against her. Katie?

One thing is defunding. That will work as long as you are not like the one position on credit monitoring, being funded by the Fed. The other thing they can do is hold hearings on what is being done in the Executive Branch. Obama is still the responsible one. So they call him down for testimony. Make HIM tell what the czar is doing, and why. Only way to make him oversee what they do. If he refuses to show proper oversight, that is an impeachable offense.

They need to do SOMETHING!

IMO, this situation with un-vetted, unconfirmed appointees running things is the most serious situation right now, and needs to be stopped. And reversed!
This was Obama's strategy from the beginning. His cabinet is for show; the real power is in the uncontrolled advisors. He named Clinton SoS, but at the same time appointed two "Presidential envoys" to handle important matters of state. Stephen Chu is Energy Secretary, but Carol Browner is really runnig things.
The late Sen. Robert Byrd was appalled at the blatant arrogation of power to the Executive by Obama, and urged him to rein them in.
Time to get serious about checks and balances!
Good point!

There is no doubt that Obama is in criminal dereliction of duty of his responsibility as a president to enforce laws -- but bringing that up and finding the evidence does unsettle the cocktail set so. We mustn't do that, must we? Oh, the bloody knife you used to stab O'Donnel with is still dripping.

I care about impeachment at

I care about impeachment at the proper time, ONLY after the RACIST Attorney General Holder is exposed along with his cadre of supporters at the DOJ, THEN I want to hear Obama asked the questions: What did you know and When did you know it? This man is a racist and needs to be exposed.
In fact, first comes the full exposure of the Sestak and Romanoff play for pay case in Congressional hearings, grilling ALL the Presidents lower functionaries and then force Obama to own up to what he knew and when he knew it.
Obama also needs to own up to his involvement with the Chicago Olympics bid, flying on taxpayers dime to promote a venue that directly benefited his associates/friends in Chicago.
Force the FBI to own up to what Obama told them about Blago and see if he really did know about Rahm Emanual's dealings with Blago in the Valerie Jarrett play for pay affair. I strongly suspect the FBI knows Obama lied to the public about his involvement because he probably told them the truth fearing he would be indicted before he had Presidential immunity. The FBI is under no requirement to out a publicly lying politician who told them the exact opposite during an investigation.
All of these things should be brought before the public because they have a right to know if the President is a lying scumbag if they are being asked to vote for him in 2012.

There's something rotten in Denmark. I'd like them to drag Bill Clinton in for questioning, too. His slimy fingers are all over this. Put him under oath (not that THAT matters, ha!).

The President and his immediate staff will most likely not testify and he could get aways with it by claiming Presidential immunity. Just like Clinton did. The seperation of powers is good but sometimes it can be a bugger.

There is a treasure trove of dirt and skeletons just WAITING to see the light of day. This is what Obama is afraid of. Watergate x1000 and 1.

Vet him!

I would prefer that they vet the Chairman the same way they vetted John McCain. Fair's fair after all. And if it is indeed revealed that he is a foreigner, he needs to be arrested and frog-marched to Gitmo. There's NO reason to hide it if there's nothing to hide. Given the amount of money spent to keep it hidden, he's got something(more than one too) to hide.
Other than that, he does need to be impeached for the charges of dereliction of duty as CinC, endangering the troops, unlawful actions regarding the bailouts among other things that resulted in companies being bought out and closed out....you get the idea.

"And if he is a foreigner"
Submitted by TheHistorian on Fri, 11/05/2010 - 5:38am.
What utter claptrap!! Was his Mother a citizen? Can parents renounce a child's citizenship? Under the Constitution, it doesn't matter whether he was born in a mud hut, he has a natural born mother. You can even question his paternity (not that I have seen anyone doing so) and he still winds up a natural-born citizen. So come off the foreigner garbage.
However, what he told on his Harvard app would speak tons to his moral character. See the next main post for more comments.

If it's 'claptrap' why did McCain have to submit to this treatment? Double standard for the white Republican?
claptrap? really?
Submitted by jon_torlin on Fri, 11/05/2010 - 9:31am.
His mother was 18. His father was a British-Kenyan citizen. His mother wasn't old enough to confer citizenship on him, she has to be 19.
And yes, they did renounce the "child's citizenship" by going to Pakistan and Indonesia.
And before you say "semantics" or "details," it is what it is.
Not to mention, the State Department did declare him to be a dual citizen. That's against the Constitutional requirements of being POTUS.

There has been NO oversight of Obama
Submitted by TheHistorian on Fri, 11/05/2010 - 5:34am.
under the Democrats. All of the hearings have been designed to shut down administration detractors.
In order to serve checks and balances, hearings are necessary. One good example is one of the Department of Justice and what has happened with the New Black Panther Party. And the cover-up which has gone on, transferring witnesses out of the jurisdiction of oversight committees, and all of the chicanery that has gone on.
Another reason that the party of the House and the President should be divided. It is time to hold the administration accountable. That should also go for the czars and what they have done. The administration (read the President) has to be held accountable for the actions of all of his team. Just because the nomination and appointment of the czars is not subject to oversight doesn't mean that their actions are unaccountable. They guy at the top MUST be accountable for ALL executive decisions. And if that means that he is unwilling to remove people who are unaccountable and repeatedly violate laws or overstep executive authority, then he has to put himself up for removal. For a President, we call it impeachment; remember?
As far as the Birthers are concerned, I think that this President owes the people of this country the whole story before he runs again. His Mother had not renounced her citizenship, so regardless if he does not meet the law of the land at that time, the law was not well-designed and could be challenged. His parents cannot renounce his citizenship I believe is a valid precept. So he is a natural-born citizen under the Constitution and its intent. End of Birther stuff. How did you get admitted to Harvard? Did you play the game of telling them you were not a citizen? That would speak to moral character in my mind. Only after he comes clean should the members of his party allow him to run again. He also owes us disclosure of his college records, his role in the Harvard Law Review, etc. My guess is it would show he coasted a lot, because that is what he is doing as President. And that message does belong to the voters.
