The Weekly World News is infamous for alien encounters with U.S. Presidents (“Space Alien Backs Bush for President!” and “Obama Invites Alien Choir to White House”), but one alien admires and wants to meet President Obama. Actress Morena Baccarin, who plays “Anna,” the leader of the malevolent aliens on ABC's sci-fi 'V' series, told USA Today that “I would love to meet Obama” since he's “charming” and a “smart, smart guy,” though, she lamented, “it took us all of 30 seconds to turn against him.”
A Tuesday USA Today “Life” section article provided this quote from the Brazilian-born Baccarin (IMDb page):
I would love to meet (President) Obama. I think he is so charming and smart. It took us no time at all to turn on him. Certainly leading the country is a really tough job.
In a video which accompanies the online posting, Baccarin yearns:
I would love to meet Obama. I mean, he seems like a smart, smart guy and it took us all of 30 seconds to turn against him. But I'm really curious to meet him and know him.
The fourth of a four episode run of V aired Tuesday night. The series will return in March.

But as even the liberal Guardian out of England and the liberal Stern out of Germany have written what I read yesterday - his "charming" around the world has accomplished : ZERO. Her statement is a bit confusing, especially "it took us all of 30 seconds to turn against him." She liked him but is against him?
I think someone in the White House wants the show to tank because it's practically unheard of for a TV series to show only a few episodes and then go on hiatus for THREE months. They may have called ABC and said "hey, we need you guys to do this for us." Which makes sense because if even the TV show is giving subtle suggestions against Duh One, the WH will want to do what it can to reduce that in the masses that watch Dancing with the Stars that comes on after that.

Wed, 11/25/2009 - 08:26 ET by ThoreauMy opinion as well. Actor's are mostly insane and lie for a living, so I understand their attaction to Obama. I guess to them, a Communist with purpose would seem "smart". The Hollywood jerkoff's loved Benito Mussolini too.
I really think America would be better off without the existence of Hollywood. Long term and short term. They are a cancer on so many industries, and all to sell a movie ticket and have a place for high school dropouts to work. It's not worth it.
Too bad the series will now tank
Wed, 11/25/2009 - 08:31 ET by IgnatzJFahrquarwhen it comes back in March 2010 ... well, my opinion, anyway.
I'm not a network series viewer, but this one caught my eye due to the fact I watched the original back in the '80's. Okay, so I'm a SciFi nerd. All in all, this one's not too bad ... for a network show.
It has been very interesting how the storyline parallels the current administration and the blind fawning of Obama. I know that this has been discussed before. Hell, last nights "mini-finale" (for this season) had a nice flu vacine reference.
Considering that the producer and head writer were recently canned I can only imagine it was due to the negative similarities to Chairman Obamao in the story line and a subsequent call from the Propaganda Bureau.
The funny thing is after watching a recent rerun of the original series I realised that even that story line closely mimiced the cr@p now going on.
I guess I'll wait and see what happens in March. Gut feeling says it will turn into rubbish. Too bad.

I don't think it will come back
Wed, 11/25/2009 - 08:50 ET by jon_torlinI seriously doubt it'll come back. 3+ months is a long hiatus for a new TV show, especially after just 4 episodes. That's pretty much a guaranteed show killer. The SyFy Channel's Battlestar Galactica did a long hiatus, but they were around for a long time enough to generate some fandom to keep them going to their finale.
I'm inclined to believe the White House had something to do with this hiatus, after all, it's not the first time they bullied a network. In this case, they are bullying ABC and will get away with it.
Final analysis: V's history.

That thought did cross my mind
Wed, 11/25/2009 - 09:22 ET by IgnatzJFahrquarI think, though, that it was just intended to be a mini-series pilot to "test the waters". The original followed the same path and did come back as a full blown series.
If I'm not mistaken, the ratings having been tracking fairly well which means ad revenue. Even if it has been dictated to "clean up the storyline to match Obamao's agenda" it will probably still be back on to garner the ad revenue then it'll probably just die on the vine after next year.
Out of all the alphabets, ABC at least has been trying a little to expose the man behind the curtain with Jake Tapper asking some pointed questions. This series was another small indicator, but alas, it too may go the way of "those who oppose".
"You should always tell the truth, because if you tell the truth you make it the other person's problem." Sean Connery
not quite
Wed, 11/25/2009 - 10:27 ET by jon_torlinIt wasn't intended to be a mini-series at all. They'd say it was, but it was a series the whole time they were talking about it during production. That's the crux right there when you have a president(not MY president) who is pushing for the farce that is health care(control) and you have someone who's using pretty words and phrases and etc to control the crowd. That's the reality and this White House and those occupying it don't like it.
We've seen Rahmbo go out and bully the networks about airing prime time speeches, don't be surprised if a TV show gets tanked the same way no matter how the ratings are. That's what happened here.

Thu, 11/26/2009 - 04:52 ET by humanzeeNot so fast.
1) A lot of shows go on hiatus in December
2) ABC is putting all their shows on hiatus in February because of the winder Olympics.
3) V is getting paired up with Lost and it is running the full 20 something episode season. They only made 4 to test it out. The first 4 episodes will probably be repeated before new episodes return.
Question
Thu, 11/26/2009 - 09:15 ET by Unsane2) ABC is putting all their shows on hiatus in February because of the winder Olympics. Why would they do that when it is NBC broadcasting them? Yes, one can anticipate that lots of people will be watching the Games, but at the same time, I would think that someone at CBS and ABC would think to themselves that since not everyone is obsessed with figure skating, maybe some viewers will skip that and watch something else while waiting on downhill skiing, hockey, and speed skating events...

I don't admire politicians or think they are smart, necessarily. (The last time I did was Newt G_______ because he has a PhD in history, and that turned out to be a big, massive disappointment.) I don't know that many people who do. If I run into people who think His Majesty The Shahinshah is the think to be thankful for this Thanksgiving (for example), I run away. Fast.
People constantly attribute things to Him that cannot or will not be proven, but I am supposed to shut up and accept them wholesale. As far as I am concerned the only thing He has going for Him is a HOT, BEAUTIFUL SMILE which leaves millions of Americans and people around the world in a permanent state of sexual arousal. The ratings are holding
Wed, 11/25/2009 - 11:48 ET by tssclsThe ratings are holding steady on this. As someone else pointed out, it was a mini-series type deal that was always planned to go on hiatus. As long as they don't move it to friday night or tamper with the story too much, they could have a sleeper on their hands. I've been watching it, and it's been pretty engaging so far, although the first episode seemed rushed. It gives me a chuckle everytime they throw another dem policy on the fire. (U-healthcare, media lovefest, flu vaccine)
not a mini-series
Wed, 11/25/2009 - 12:10 ET by jon_torlinIt wasn't supposed to be a mini-series, not even as a "type" of mini-series, it was a series. I'm thinking that because of the storylines in it paralleling real life vis a vis health care and so on may have gotten good ratings and I suspect the Soetoro folks bullied ABC into saying "change the story!"
I bet they had other episodes ready and out of production but won't be allowed to air them now. You don't start a new series with just 4 episodes, you have at least 10 of them out of production before you start airing them.

They've planned this since
Wed, 11/25/2009 - 15:17 ET by tssclsThey've planned this since Sept. They wanted to see if the ratings were solid. Sci-fi shows with big SFX are expensive to make. No conspiricy here, yet!

will grant you that
Wed, 11/25/2009 - 19:46 ET by jon_torlinI will agree with your statement about the September date based on the reference so that's not in dispute. I hadn't really followed up on it much except during the summer time when they made the announcement of its existence on the kryptonsite.com site which features other shows besides Smallville(Laura Vandervoort was on it for one season, went from Kryptonian to Lizard). I hadn't followed the production news that much during that time other than marking it on my calendar to watch it.
But during that time prior to September, they had every intention of making a full-fledged series instead of what they announced in September, in other words, there wasn't any discussion that I saw about a hiatus.
(And believe me, I'm fully aware of how the visual graphics take a LOT of power to make, got a friend who does 3D stuff and has a small render farm to do it with.)
Anyway, that's the reason for my suspicion, based on summer news about V that I ran across totally by accident as I don't watch the alphabet channels except for Heroes.

Wed, 11/25/2009 - 12:03 ET by robert89Obama is charming, and he's a smart socialist. I'd like to meet him as well...and give him a piece of my mind. Yes, it's a tough job to be president.
I agree with Ms Baccarin on her points except for the 30 second bit. For me it was more like 25.

Another Example of Hollywood Hympnotism?
Wed, 11/25/2009 - 12:34 ET by webmonkeydcIt fascinates how many actors are swooned by our President. Read "An Open Letter To President Obama" - http://obamaprayers.blogspot.com/2009/11/open-letter-to-president-obama....
Lady, if you want to get
Wed, 11/25/2009 - 12:41 ET by Willis_Leon_JohnsonLady, if you want to get all tingly legged over the guy, that's fine.
But, keep it to yourself, nobody really cars what your fantasies are.
As far as 'smart'?
He's a well trained monkey that can read a teleprompter at 200 yards.
Without the teleprompter, he goes back to swinging on a vine babbling and screeching.
Smart he ain't. just well trained to jump through his assigned hoops.

LOL so she's chaging back to a previous character?
Wed, 11/25/2009 - 12:48 ET by UndercoverConservativeShe was most widely known by sci-fi geeks as "Inara" from the series "Firefly. Where she played a high-class, expensive "Companion"...which were essentially highly trained prostitutes controlled by a central Guild.
So she's reverting to type (cast) and offering herself as "companion" to the religion of The One?

Actors vs. Liberals...
Wed, 11/25/2009 - 17:39 ET by rgrangerthey both have an unnatural ablity to disconnect with reality. Probably what makes actors so good at their craft... and liberals so good at doing what they do.
Because she wants to meet
Wed, 11/25/2009 - 22:20 ET by balboaBecause she wants to meet the president?
→ I missed it too, bal
Wed, 11/25/2009 - 22:26 ET by Cool ArrowI watch the show, find it entertaining, see a few parallels I chuckle about.
I don't agree with Roger Waters' politics, but I'd like to meet him.
OK, Roger Waters is talented so that doesn't explain why she would want to meet with the President, but wanting to meet Obama doesn't make her a loon.
LYDSEXICS UNTIE!
I'm with you. There are

Thu, 11/26/2009 - 22:51 ET by GhostbusterThis is pretty fitting in that if you look at the show as an allegory for what is happening in America today, her character IS Obama.

Where's the paper bag?
Mon, 11/30/2009 - 09:59 ET by PJManI'm laughing hysterically, these posts are johnny on the spot, where's his thesis, his grades, let's see GW AND kerry had to present theirs, and GW had better grades, as for Morena, she was beautiful in firefly, with some more pounds, and now, just about as pretty as one can get, butt smart isn't measured in pounds, or is it? After the first episode aired, they now have new writers, producers, so with all the great ratings, take your pick, money, ratings, or pro-oboomma?
