Totenberg: Kennedy a 'Truly Shakespearean Figure' Redeemed by 'Greatness'

In full swoon for the late Senator Ted Kennedy, NPR's Nina Totenberg fondly recalled his “greatness” in doing “enormous things” for “millions and millions.” She predicted on the weekly Inside Washington aired Friday night:

I think he'll be remembered as a truly Shakespearean figure: tragic, flawed; who in the end achieved redemption through greatness -- both in his personal life and in his professional life, and did enormous things for millions and millions of people.

(Inside Washington, produced by Washington, DC's ABC affiliate, first airs Friday night on DC's PBS station.)

Redemption through greatness

This is just another version of "might makes right."

If you become "big" enough, either through wealth or celebrity or power, then the people who agree with your actions will excuse any other sins you commit. And sadly, there are enough sycophants running around who are all too eager to heap praise upon the rich and famous.

Pathetic.

Poor dim Nina...

Nina Totenberg admitted that she did poorly on the SAT. People with low intelligence and education often come up with silly comments like this.

Lets honor Teddy

I think it is only fitting that the private Congressional Health Care Plan should be named after Teddy Kennedy. The TEDDY KENNEDY PLAN, a symbol of self-indulgence and total disregard for the public. The other plan, the PUBLIC plan is something else, however. I suggest that the public plan be named the MARYJO KOPECHNE HEALTH CARE SYSTEM. This will properly memorialize a lifetime of Teddy's work. Surely the public WILL NOT receive the same benefits as Congress but this Kennedy plan will provide the same level of care given to Maryjo by Teddy, with similar results. For those who wait eagerly for passage of the public plan, (as Maryjo probably waited) my advice based on past history is DON'T HOLD YOUR BREATH!

That brings us up to 1969. Then we should consider the redemptive qualities of abortion, Borking, and his generosity with other people's money. Etc., Etc.

He helped kill millions and millions of babies

Kennedy's "greatest" legacy is the millions and millions of babies he helped kill by promoting abortion. (Of course, his admirers in the media call that "protecting women's rights".) May God have mercy on his soul.

Koorangkoo, That was my very

Koorangkoo,

That was my very fist thought, how can you “do great things for millions” when you support a law that KILLS MILLIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I thought that the boot licking would be bad but it is just jaw dropping. Like with Ed Kline talking about Kennedy joking about the death of a young woman at his own hands..

It all is just breath taking.

Ronald Reagan, 1962: I did not leave the Democratic party, the party left me.

Idiots like Totenberg, Joe

Idiots like Totenberg, Joe Klein, Jon Alter, George Stefanopolous, Sheuster, Matthews et al are in an insular bubble.

Like the politicians they cover, they never re-read their words nor do they take into account how stupid and vapid they sound. It especially galls me that my tax dollars are going into Totenberg's pockets.

Kennedy was a Shakespearean Character

Like Ajax, in Midsummer's Night Dream. A big oaf.

What you don't hear from these people is that Kennedy was heavily responsible for cutting off our troops in Vietnam, trying to cut them off in Iraq, the current immigration screw up which he promised would never happen (we will never give amnesty again), the existence of HMOs, and Leave No Child Behind, the ink on which wasn't even dry before he began to vilify it.

It is too bad that liberals refuse to analyze any of their characters in the realm of the history they leave behind.  If they ever were to look at the history of the members of their party, they would be forced to admit how little their ideas work, and how often they have made a bad situation worse (such as the liberal break-up of the black family).

What I have seen since he took over the Kennedy seat in Massachusetts is a spoiled brat, a buffoon who couldn't keep it in his pants, and a legislator who has wreaked personal vengeance on this country for not being communist enough to suit him.

this - that people and governments never have learned anything from history,
or acted on principles deduced from it."

Not exactly the guy you want at your "6".

http://bandofblogger...

This story is everywhere.  I can't believe I only just now learned of his backstabbing behind the scenes.  Oh wait...ABC, NBC, CBS...yeah, I guess I can believe it.

Speaking of traitors and treasonous acts...ABC, NBC,  CNN, CBS...guilty as hell!

islam is a lie and Truth is killing it.

This just boils my butt

This just boils my butt AB!!! Could you imagine if it were found out that Trent Lott or John McCain had written a letter to Prime Minister Major to help undermine Clinton's re-election bid in 1996. The libs in the msm would have declared it treason and demanded an arrest!! This really pisses me off!!!

  Shakespeare's "Falstaff"

Shakespeare's "Falstaff" character would be a more accurate analogy.

"DumbAssity of Dope"

The Historian -- how about

The Historian -- how about Falstaff?

From wikipedia

Sir John Falstaff is a fictional character who appears in three plays by William Shakespeare as a companion to Prince Hal, the future King Henry V.  Falstaff is a fat, vainglorious, and cowardly knight...

Thanks Barack! You've done more to promote conservatism than any president since Ronald Reagan (PBUH).

no ajax

MSD has no Ajax...perhaps you are thinking of Bottom or Quince Flute or Snout or Starveling or Snug...they were all your basic idiots.

Totenberg

Jesus, Mary, & Joseph this sanctimonious obsequeious hagiography is beyond the pale. Ted was what he was, to live in complete denial of these facts is a sickness I don't believe the Dims/libs/msm are going to get over anytime soon, i.e. in our lifetimes. Lets face it Ted Kennedy did a lot of damage to our country whether he was conscience of it or not; like a vicious St. Bernard.

I agree with above poster.  I too am tired of paying this Totenberg woman's salary and NPR. I don't ever listen to it.

Bet Willy S. is spinning in his grave...

Sigh!

redeemed by greatness?

Redeemed? Redeemed? Nina Totenberg! Of all the words you could have chosen to use, and you picked Redeemed? Nothing like insulting millions of American Christians by besmirching our Redeemer.

Falstaff

I might see Ed as Falstaff but not as any heroic Shakesperian character.

The old bag is nuts. He did enormous thing TO million of people. He will have no redemption now. He murdered another human being. He will burn in hell for that.

Our taxpayer money is wasted on "nincompoops" like...

this woman.  The new FCC "Diversity Czar" wants to confiscate the profits from privately held talk radio and transfer them to NPR.  We are losing our country!  Jim Webster

ted kennedy will have to answer to his Maker

just like we all will, some day.  and may God have mercy on him, and all of us when that day comes.

swing hard in case you hit it.

"Greatness"???  What

"Greatness"???  What "greatness"?  It's disheartening to see so many emotionally disturbed people out there living in their f---ed up Libtard worlds.  And they're running the show which is even worse.

We're in for a big reality check I fear.

Even if "we" win somehow, they will go to the grave with the same old, tired pseudo-Marxist BS they've been living their whole lives and they'll be working to erect a new Socialist Idol to replace BHO, and one that (they would hope) would be successful...because it just has to be that only a Liberal version of America is the right one...even though that vision of America is a foreign import.

One of the 34% who thinks George W. Bush was a great President. One of the 86% who wants to bring back the stock and pillory.

Mary Jo Kopechne could be

Mary Jo Kopechne could be compared to Ophelia...except that Ophelia committed suicide by drowning, whereas Kopechne was drowned at the hands of Kennedy.
