Still Yearning for Kerry in 'Funny People' Movie

Some in Hollywood, it seems, just can't let go of past political hopes – or at least want to use their films to continue pushing their political preferences. In Funny People, the new movie from writer/director Judd Apatow (IMDb page) which opened July 31, a character played by Seth Rogen (IMDb page) wears a 2004-era “Vote Kerry” T-shirt with an artwork outline image of 2004 Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry.

I caught the scene with Rogen sporting the T-shirt in the promotional clip played during this past Monday's re-run of the July 20 Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien on which the star of the film, Adam Sandler, was a guest. IMDb has the same video clip, “George asks Ira to kill him.” (For the image here, I've enlarged the blue on black graphic.)

The wardrobe choice may not have been Rogen's, but it would match his political influences, at least judging from this quote attributed to him on IMDb's bio page for the Canadian-born actor:

My mom's a social worker and my dad works in non-profit organizations. But they seem very radical in American terms, embracing a form of socialism that really doesn't even exist here. I mean, where I come from, communism is not a terrible word.

IMDb's plot summary for Funny People: “When seasoned comedian George Simmons learns of his terminal, inoperable health condition, his desire to form a genuine friendship cause him to take a relatively green performer under his wing as his opening act.”

Hollywood thinks by having

Hollywood thinks by having him wear an esoteric liberal tee shirt, like one with Lurch's picture on it, shows that the character is totally hip.

Beg to differ, Chris

I was always under the impression that John "Stuck in Iraq" Kerry was widely recognized as the spitting image of Herman Munster, not Lurch....

I've always like

I've always like both...I've also addressed him as The Caretaker.

Vivaldi,

I'm afraid what we have here is the same dispute along the lines of "cats or dogs?", "Ginger or MaryAnn?", and "Betty or Veronica?". Some will say Lurch, some will say Herman Munster - it's all in the eye of the beholder... :)

Chris, that's true--I agree

Chris, that's true--I agree with you that Kerry, Lurch, and for that matter Herman share a common thread, given that all are tall and awkwardly goofy. :)

I'm Not Surprised He Said That....

It's pretty clear Rogen is himself a Communist.

Obama's not radical enough for him, and he seems to be under the impression that Hussein's only popular with two of the groups under The Messiah's moonbat umbrella.

I'm sure leeches, ticks  and mosquitoes have the same attitude which is, that every creature that has 'extra' should share.  Socialism and communism are parasitic organizations that eventually kill the host.

John Kerry is a Traitor. The video of the 1971 debate on

The Dick Cavett Show between traitor John Kerry, who back then represented Vietnam Veterans Against the War, and John O'Neill, Vietnam veteran and former spokesman for Swift Vets, can be found HERE.

"I do not believe John Kerry is fit to be Commander-in-Chief of the armed forces of the United States. This is not a political issue. It is a matter of his judgment, truthfulness, reliability, loyalty and trust -- all absolute tenets of command.~ Rear Admiral Roy Hoffmann, USN (retired), chairman, Swift Boat Veterans for Truth

Why is there never a role

Why is there never a role for the cool, intelligent "got it together but still searching for himself" conservative individual?

I think a John Kerry

I think a John Kerry t-shirt fits well with the movie title.

Wow. Timely.

Wow. Timely.

This non-story is hardly

This non-story is hardly the pinnacle of uncovering liberal media bias.

It's a Kerry shirt. Who cares. He lost. Let's move on.

Oh, dear, Roger. Don't you get it? Democrats don't 'lose' elections, they are stolen by Republicans. No Republican has ever won an election.

Would it make you feel better if Rogan was wearing a "Vote Dole" t-shirt? This story is not that big of a deal.

In Balboaland, the sun is always shining, the birds are singing, there's a permanent rainbow, liberals are right, there's no media bias, and anything can be dismissed as "not important"

CN, as I've said, again, and

CN, as I've said, again, and again, and again, there are plenty of worthy topics, posts, and discussions. I can't help it if you only remember the ones I don't care about.

I've never said liberals are always right.

Never even suggested liberals were always right.

I've never said you're always wrong.

I've never said there isn't a media bias.

BUT there are stories that are, IMO, not worth posting or going over.

Racism!

Wishing that John Kerry has won in 2004 is racist, since in all likelihood President John Kerry means that the Bamster stays a lowly Senator. They would prefer another old white guy to the messiah.

Che or Kerry

I'll put up a Che to a Kerry any day.

(Lenin called them "useful idiots" I for one have no use for them.)

Rogen Gosh -- not so hot.

“When seasoned comedian George Simmons learns of his terminal, inoperable health condition...

Oh yeah. Obamcare is in full force and George has an in-growing toenail.

His case is reviewed by the Death Panel. They decide George dies so much on stage anyway, the utility to society of his continuing to live and eat up precious bodily resources is ZERO.

Re: Seth Rogen. A very small amount goes a long long way.

Far be it from me to cross political swords with a "comedian" who thinks communism is not so terrible.

The very first thing Communist regimes (and totalitarians of all stripes) do is get rid of those who mock and make jokes about them. The comedians, the artists, the writers, et al.

But I guess Rogen would be safe, as he would likely be the clown informer and be making jokes at the expoense of those in the Labor Camps.

Thanks Barack! You've done more to promote conservatism than any president since Ronald Reagan (PBUH).

On with the show...

Ha!  Even wardrobe has dropped Edwards down the memory hole.

Why so shy Hollywierd?  If Kerry had won in 2004 there is a very high probability Johnny 'Two Families' Edwards would still be VP.

Talk about a great storyline begging to be on the big screen.  Here's your title -  Ignominious Bastard - run with it...

Hollywood is so over...

Sigh!

And The Point Of This Post Is What, Exactly?

Why would anybody think an actor in a movie wearing a t-shirt reflecting a political ideology shares that particular ideology? In fact, I would bet to you that most people who wear a Che Guevara t-shirt actually believe that it's a Jim Morrison or Carlos Santana t-shirt because they look a lot like Che Guevara. And last time I checked, I thought Adam Sandler was a Republican?! I mean, he donated money to the Rudy Guiliani campaign, what does that say about him?

Look, if I were to judge that Alec Baldwin must be a Republican based off of the fact that he plays one on TV, I'd probably have to get a rectal probe in the head, because right now I'm hearing news that Baldwin wants to challenge Joe Lieberman's seat because Lieberman ain't liberal enough for him. This is a time-waster both literally and hypothetically. The economy is in bad shape, our jobs are being taken, and the only thing you can think about is on who to blame it on? It sounds to me like something a liberal would do.

Ouch.

"And last time I checked, I

"And last time I checked, I thought Adam Sandler was a Republican?! I mean, he donated money to the Rudy Guiliani campaign, what does that say about him?"

Since you ask...I'd say that makes him either a libertarian or a RINO.
