CNN's Wish Early: 'Something for NewsBusters.org for Tomorrow'

By Brent Baker | February 12, 2008 - 22:22 ET

At the end of panel discussion, just before 7:30 PM EST Tuesday night about conservative opposition to John McCain, CNN analyst Roland Martin recognized his next comment -- about how only “extremists” in the GOP afraid of losing power are opposed to McCain -- might well upset conservatives and so cited NewsBusters in putting a warning up front:

I have something for NewsBusters.org for tomorrow. These are the extremists of the party who want to continue to hold on to their power. The bottom line is you're losing it. Your party is changing. Deal with it.

That was the last word of the segment.

Martin appeared with Republican analysts Leslie Sanchez and Amy Holmes, in a discussion segment moderated by Lou Dobbs since the campaign coverage came during the normal time for Lou Dobbs Tonight.

Immediately before Martin's remark, Amy Holmes asserted:

In fairness to John McCain, his voting record, he get an over 80 percent rating from the American Conservative Union. So in his voting record he is a steady ally of the conservative movement.

Right!

Congrats NewsBusters! Martin's mention of you not only proved your point about liberalism in the media (at least for Martin), but it also got you free advertising. Just think of all the libs who were exposed to this reference, typed your address into their web browser and were exposed to all your hard evidence of liberal bias. The evidence might be too overwhelming to ignore, even for people with blinders on...

Brent,

That's great!!! Here's to Roland [raising a glass -- clink!] :-) ns

Screw

this POS...

his party is so far freaking left that it can't be defined anymore.

So he wants me to lay down and take it like a moveon whore.. nope not gonna happen.

Rats,

Some how I missed the clinton news network and this yahoo's viewpoint. Actually, I was just opening the copy of the Constitution from the Heritage Foundation...what can I say.

That's funny......

I feel like I'm way too conservative to be an extremist.

Stultus est sicut stultus facit

Exactly.

Exactly.

I shudder to think what Roland considers mainstream.

Just because I blog here from time to time does not make me an extremist, once I move to Houston, register Democrat, get my Code Pink T-shirt and Che beret then I will be an extremist! ;)

We were watching this live

We were watching this live when it happened....I loved it!

Naturally I let out a hearty laugh and commented about how far NBs....all of us have come!

Roland martin; I wish you

Roland martin; I wish you ill. IMO extremist is a term used to define someone with radical beliefs that often are not backed up by facts, kind of like global warming alarmists. To label NB and its readers as extremists is rediculous, people here live on facts, often to a point where it seems petty to point them all out. It is his turn to gloat because McCain is on top right now, but not for long

"give me a break!" - John Stossel

To be fair to Martin

I think he was referring to conservatives who dislike McCain, not to NB itself.

That's the point, Matthew

Is it any better that Martin called NB posters "extremists" because they dislike McCain?

RJ... Bingo. Thank

RJ...

Bingo.

Thank you...I was yelling at Roland...as I usually do when he talks anyway.

Umm you "wish him ill"

Umm you "wish him ill" simply because he disagrees with you politically? Perhaps that's what he means by EXREMIST! Jeez! I've had a running dialog with Martin going for a while now, where I've criticized everything from his intelligence to his wife's ridiculous claim to be a "minister" contrary to the bible which states that women cannot BE ministers, but I certainly don't "wish him ill". Not that your wishes amount to anything at all in the world, but I do hope you rethink that.

Who cares what McCain's lifetime conservative record is?

It's his behavior for the last 5-10 years that concern me.

Bingo RJ...it is that

Bingo RJ...it is that simple.

And he doesn't appear to be

And he doesn't appear to be sorry for it.

Be a man McCain, pick Arlen Spector as your running mate and take two RINOs out of the Senate at the same time!

Yep, McCain is giving a rip-roaring speech now....

OMG we are in so much trouble...not like I haven't said it before, I rarely do, but we are doomed for the time being...all I can say is God works in mysterious ways...we have to deal with it.

John McCain Needs to Make a "Contract with Conservatives"

I had no idea being anti-Amnesty, anti-Carbon Taxes, anti-Closing Gitmo and being pro-tax cuts was extremist? I always thought it was realistic.

John McCain needs to make a "Contract with Conservatives" and sign the following:

1. I will not raise ANY Taxes and will make the Bush Tax Cuts permanent.

2. I will not sign ANY amnesty legislation or comprehensive immigration reform bills and will Veto all that are brought before me.

3. I will not implement or sign any Carbon Taxes, Cap-and-Trade legislation or any other economic crippling measures based on AGW global warming fantasy.

4. I will not close the Guantanamo Bay Detention Camp or move any of it's occupants to the United States where they can receive legal defense from groups such as the ACLU.

We need it in writing. Do this John McCan and we can begin to talk.

The Anti 'Man-Made' Global Warming Resource

Very good points, PT

I'll go along with a signature on that list!

McCain will be happy to

McCain will be happy to sign anything to get elected

it's not like he has to honor any of these agreements

add to that

5. I will seek out true constructionists for all SCOTUS appointments

Well you know I agree with

Well you know I agree with your addition...but I wouldn't trust McCain as far as I could throw him...signature or not.

That is just how I feel about him, I have watched/listened to that little vindictive man too may years...unfortunately.

6. I will make English the official language

7. I will not make the life of a terrorist prisoner better than our

8. I will pardon the two border agents

9. I will clean out the CIA and the state department

10. We will water board with vinegar water if we need to

11. I will commit to removing Red Tape and returning America to its capitalistic roots

I could go on, but that is a good start

I agree except...

I just think the torture one is a lost cause with McCain.

The Anti 'Man-Made' Global Warming Resource

LOL, Pop, you are more than

LOL, Pop, you are more than an optimist than I am, I don't think anything on your list or mine would be something he would go for.

McCain did say...

He would build the goddamn fence if we really wanted it. I believe he can be talked into certain things, it is the other points which I am very concerned about and getting him to sign something would make it incredibly hard to get out of it. He really does want to be president bad enough and you would think making deals with conservatives would be nothing compared to all the BS he sold his soul to with the Democrats. My only other option is to vote libertarian or write-in for President. Which I will do as I voted for Perot in 96.

Conservatives have McCain by the balls if he wants any chance of getting elected.

The Anti 'Man-Made' Global Warming Resource

do you not notice the out,

do you not notice the out, if we really wanted it. He isn't going to build it. He still is counting on the anti-Democrat vote to carry him. Which is why I hope he doesn't pick a conservative to go down with him, because he is going to lose...so at this point, I hope Hillary is going to win...she is the better choice of the four candidates running.

Obama is an empty suit, but America is in LaLa land where symbolism is more important than substance.

Republicans won't fight againt Huck or McCain when they turn left.

But with Hillary there will be gridlock for her time in office, and that is what I am hoping for. Let there be gridlock until we get a conservative in office!

Vote for Conservatives for Congress

All we can do now is vote for conservatives for congress.

The Anti 'Man-Made' Global Warming Resource

Will conservatives stand up

Will conservatives stand up to McCain? or Huck?

And for some reason that question reminded me of the TV series Batman...maybe because McCain is Twoface and Huck is the Joker?

The USS John McCain

He can sign that and I still won't vote for him. This guy is a disaster looking for a place to happen and he can't win the GE because independents don't trust him either. Only the Dems like him because they think he looks like a cooked goose ready to eat. The GOP only comprises one-third of the electorate. There are many Republicans who think McCain has earned his spot at the head of the GOP ticket. There aren't any independents who care what kind of respect McCain gets in the GOP. They are looking for a strong leader. McCain doesn't fit that bill, he looks and sounds like an old battleship ready for the mothballs.

And.....

6. I will truly reform Govt. entitlement programs and not just give lip service.

7. I will dismantle the current, antiquated taxing framework and implement the Fair Tax system.

8. I will not put the wants, expectations, and/or opinions of "other than legal" immigrants above those rights, needs and/or the well being of legal United States citizens.

9. I will not pander to those who do not have the legal right to be in this country - especially those who have publically declared the desire to kill us.

10. I will bring conservatism back to the Republican party by doing the "people's work", not the apologist's work.

I almost forgot....

11. (or whatever # is appropriate) - I will sign legislation allowing for the responsible drilling in ANWR, or any other place that would be in the best interest of the United States thereby reducing our dependence on foreign oil; especially from our radical, US hating neighbor to the south...

12. I WILL NOT sign

any bill that contains an earmark!  Bills shall deal with the specific subject ONLY!

I hope someone in his campaign gets these lists and advises him to act on them!!!  He will not make it without the conservatives and we are demanding a return to conservatism!

The BEST government is the LEAST government!

Actually he's got it wrong

It's the populists/moderates in the Republican party who are trying to hold on to power by putting forth a candidate, John McCain, who they think the media will be OK with. It seems to be working. The true conservatives are the ones talking about not voting or a grass roots write-in campaign so they can maintain their self-respect.

Something stinks

Man am I out of touch. When did Roland Martin start working for CNN? I thought he had a fishing show on the Versus network.

When the liberal uses

When the liberal uses lables (this time "extremists") they do it because they don't have facts or reason. They lose. Oh sure it sounds powerful: a dismissive label. But is rings hollow and eliminates the person from long term dialogue.

This guy on CNN is just not very smart. GOP has gone through cadidates of varying degress of conservatism. Ford, the Reagan. Bush 41, then Dole. Sometimes the right conservative isn't the right candidate.

I feel sorry for those who have to watch these shows. But keep it up, we need to expose the obvious bias and misinformation.

I find it interesting

that only "conservatives" are changing - there are some changes going on over on the left side of the aisle, so much so, the "lady" needs to have her husband pull the race card, because she was the candidate to be! - Must be sitting well with the fems, having her hubby do the 'hard work', being the frail little woman, while the folks of color are wondering if she should step aside, and do what she's been  saying WE should do.

So I guess we should "deal with it", and watch what happens when the REAL questions start being asked.

There is no sense in being stupid, if you can't prove it! - my dad V

It's going to be

quite a show to watch!  An interesting few months ahead ;-)

Let me get this straight ...

The conservative branch of the republican party is either opposed to, arguing with, or trying to positively persuade the obvious GOP runner John McCain to giving them a good real reason to vote for him ... and they're extremists ...

However, the BHO followers are acting like doped-up, drunken groupies backstage of a "no hit wonder"  media created superstar who isn't any deeper than a shot glass, and all he has to offer them are the songs he sings on stage in front of them ... that somebody else has written for him ... and they're screwed on straight???

When you men get home and face an anti-war protestor, look him in the eyes and shake his hand. Then, wink at his girlfriend because she knows she’s dating a pussy… ~ Attributed to General Tommy Franks

drill.. Yep, that about

drill..

Yep, that about sums it up...what a messed up world we are living in at times...reality is nil.

Roland, you are correct.

Your party is changing. Deal with it.

We "extremist" conservatives are dealing with it, Roland. We are not voting for John McCain in droves.

What you, a committed left-wing socialist, do not realize is that we true conservatives are a principled crowd. We cast votes based on our convictions, not on the whims of the "flavor of the month" crowd, of which you and your ilk are clearly members of.

Of course, you are a socialist, and, like most of your socialist brethren, you have no real principles to speak of, other than going with the flow no matter where it might lead, as long as it moves further and further leftward. As such, it is little wonder that you are totally clueless when it comes to understanding what we conservatives are proclaiming by our non-support of a liberal presidential candidate, no matter their party affiliation.

BTW-When Neswcorp eventually up and buys out your employer, the Clinton News Network, lock, stock, and barrel in the not too distant future, if you pucker up just so and plant rather carefully, maybe they will allow you to stick around as the door greeter.

Roland Martin's lips are moving so it must be wrong

I was smiling at how high priced Roland Martin's expert advice is when the essence of his input was the party has changed from extremists......but it is the extremist majority which John McCain needs to win with.

I really hope CNN cruises these blogs as someone there really needs to get more bang for their buck..............Martin is so out of touch that he doesn't even get it that NEWSBUSTERS is THEE NAME that everyone recognizes like John Wayne..........you don't need to say John Wayne movie actor.

I do believe though his comments were more fitting for Hamrod Clinton in it is her extremism which the party is rejecting for an Obama who seems to not want to hand out rebates, wants to fight wars in first strike and wants a united America...........

Ooops that sound allot like Republican Conservative positions:)

Perhaps Obama is an extremist too of the vast right wing conspiracy.

Martin ought to know about

Martin ought to know about losing it. Last report, CNN had just enough viewers to barely keep their nose above water.  But far be it from me to tell CNN how they could have a sucessful product, (HINT: A more Conservative point of view)

At any rate, Martin would be the one I ran to for Conservative game plans. <sarc off>

I was going to say I don't

I was going to say I don't feel like an extremist but if you asked my liberal Democrat friends they might have a different opinion. What I really did not understand one in the group is more conservative Democrat voting Obama so perhaps the tax code will change to better support small business. I still can't wrap my head around that logic.

Gee.......

I ain't never been an extremist before.....but I'm willing to try.

One problem gentleman......

we are few in numbers as compared to the mainstream American. We do our research, we study on the issues, and we base our ideals on our own morals and rationale thought. The mainstream American, wich makes up about 60% of this country are mindless sheeple who follow the MSM shepherd blindlessly into the abyss. This is why BHO is gaining a mass following without even discussing an issue. He just has to utter the word change and people start looking like the creatures from "Night Of The Living Dead". Mouths open and arms out they follow and like the plague they gain in numbers as they engulf thoses around them.

I voted yesterday in Virginia. In the last three elections I have never seen so many black Americans in line to vote. My wife is an Obam supporter and she is one of those creatures. She said it is a good thing that the minorities are voting. I agreed but added they are voting for BHO for the wrong reason. They are voting based on his skin color and not on his political standpoints. She agreed but said that doesn't matter. The clueless are gaining in numbers as the educated dwindle.......oh this poor nation.

Interesting is not the word. Lately we have had many heated arguments on issues. Funny thing is they usually end in her saying the same punch lines. The punch lines are ones I once thougth were only rabble barked out by Limbaugh and such..

"Those  are your truths, there are two truths to everything"

"You are being brainwashed by the radio and your conspiracies are off base"

"Those are your "facts", I can easily find facts of my own."

"You are looking at things through blinders you need to open your mind"

and my favorite

the yelling of how big of an idiot I am, while she slams down anything in arms reach and runs off, goes through a door slams that and then yells how ignorant I am.

These are all sounds of victory in my book. Because everytime I ask to provide proof or facts behind her opinions she respons with those statements and as I prod her more my favorite thing usually occurs.

It is rather interesting in our marriage. We get along in everything but politics.

In Martin's next segment,

Well, Britcom, in Martin's next segment, not shown here, he talks about how the Democratic party is changing, and they had better "deal with it." This segment is highlighted by Eli Pariser (Executive Director, MoveOn.org) saying of the Democratic Party "We bought it, we own it, and we're taking it back. ...

Just kidding.

Wait - He may be on to something

"I would remind you that extremism in the defense of liberty is no vice!
And let me remind you also that moderation in the pursuit of justice is

You have no understanding of that quote or the speech it was

made in if you think it applies here.

"The bottom line is you're

"The bottom line is you're losing it. Your party is changing. Deal with it." -Roland Martin, to conservatives in the GOP

Amusingly, he just blurted out the entire left-wing's and, by extension, MSM's objective this election cycle. Alternately pound or ignore Republican candidates from the most conservative on down, trying to force conservative voters, through shear force of repition, to accept a political shift in the party towards the left. The end intent here is to deprive conservatives of any real political voice by turning the Republican party into the Dem-lite party. Of course, this can only happen if we concede and go along with it...

Agreed, his tactic is

Agreed, his tactic is transparent.  This is building on the MSM plan to get McCain to believe neither Rush or Ann have valid concerns about McCain's intentions. They want McCain to believe he doesn't need the conservative vote to win.  By calling all of us extremists, they are attempting to paint McCain as an extremist if he embraces us. McCain has a weakness and that's his long history of avoiding being labeled an extremist, hence his tendency to run to the middle ground of any argument.  Just one more example of MSM liberal bias.  Tell us if the MSM is treating the Daily Kos or Moveon.org the same way, NOT!

Actually we all should be proud of our accomplishments, the MSM sees us as a threat to their plans for the 2008 election.  Only those who fear what they can't combat intellectually engage in demonizing their opponents. I smell fear from the MSM, and Roland Martin reeks of it.  Bring it on Martin, the scent of your terror is motivating.

I guess we should be flattered with receiving such "bouquets" from the msm - I never hear a word about DK, MO or MM ;-)

What is the old saying?  "don't care what you say as long as you spell the name right" seems to apply here - a BIG WELCOME to all you new visitors to Newsbusters.org - now come back real soon, y'hear?

Actually, I think you

Actually, I think you missed my point here. I don't believe the actual outcome of this election is all that important to them. Either way they get a president who leans towards their ideals; it's just a matter of degrees there. The bigger issue is them trying to drag the Republican party further towards the left, something they hope to achieve by not allowing any but the most liberal candidates to have the airtime and fair coverage they need to have (something resembling) a fair shot. If they do this well enough to convince conservatives that their only choice is between voting for the non-conservative members of the GOP or the Dems, then they win. Conservatism really will die, because it will have neither a party giving it voice nor a people willing to stand up for it when the party strays. That's what I believe the agenda is here.
