ABC's Kerley: 'Republicans Handed [Democrats] a Gift When They Started Talking About Contraception'

By Brad Wilmouth | March 19, 2012 | 02:14

A  A

On ABC's World News on Saturday, host David Muir played a clip of an ad from the far left group MoveOn.org attacking Republicans on the issues of abortion and contraception, and asked correspondent David Kerley for his take on the ad.

Without noting that President Obama raised the issue of contraception by requiring some religious institutions to pay for contraceptives for their employees, or that ABC's very own George Stephanopoulos had bizarrely raised the issue even earlier in a Republican presidential debate, persisting to get an answer from Mitt Romney, Kerley blamed Republicans for "talking about contraception" as he asserted that the GOP had handed Democrats a "gift."

After playing the ad, host Muir wondered:

It's just one group's video, but is this a larger window into what Democrats are going to do? How big of a role will these issues affecting women play in the big picture moving forward?

Kerley responded:

A huge role. You know, independent women went very strongly for the President in '08. Republicans closed the gender gap in '10. The Democrats were going to go down this road anyway, and the Republicans handed them a gift when they started talking about contraception. You're going to see this all the way till November, as the Obama camp tries to bring independent women back into their camp.

Question:

Submitted by Phryj1 on Mon, 03/19/2012 - 2:28am.

Do these liberal "journalists" feel even the slightest tinge of guilt when they lie?

I'd say find out if this Kerley jerk has a Twitter. If he does, we should start hammering him on this lie. THAT is how we fight back.

Progressives seem to be completely averse to facts and logic. Apparently, reality has a conservative bias.

They go by the book ...

Submitted by metaphorsbwithu on Mon, 03/19/2012 - 2:44am.

They are ideologues, plain and simple.

They probably find it amusing that they can get over people so easily, and most likely have contempt for the people they con.

To them, the end justifies the means.

Unfortunately, the Republican leadership seems clueless as to the people with whom they are dealing.

The business model seems to be ACHING for media balance!

Submitted by gopcongress on Mon, 03/19/2012 - 3:27am.

I have stated again that it is incomprehensible to me why the media has a blanket socialist viewpoint in a supposed market economy. The fact that Fox News gets more viewers than CNN and MSNBC COMBINED, and actually outdoes ABC, CBS, and NBC directly, is indicative that there is a great NEED for more competition with real balanced news coverage.

Why can't there be real competition? Why does ABC, NBC, and CBS have to be the same socialist diatribe? Why not, say, ABC go rogue and actually have balanced programs, with real conservatives instead of RINO's for instance? (They can't have conservative democrats because there is no such thing since Zell Miller left).

Seriously, if ABC decided to put out balanced reporting, they would whip the TAR out of NBC and CBS. Ratings, hence profits, would go through the roof. I realize that the mainstream media is probably the epitome of crony capitalism (read: SOCIALISM), so regulations may be tough to break. But seriously, has anyone looked at it from an ROI POV?

no market

Submitted by oldfart on Mon, 03/19/2012 - 5:41am.

There is no free market economy in the information industry. Access to information is tightly controlled and monitored in the name of National Security. There are no more of the newspaper or network'wars' where different viewpoints were battled in public.
The so called 'main stream' (read lame stream) media is not out to provide information but to steer people to one point of view. They are all (with the exception of Fox) blowing the same trumpet.
They ratings show that people of tired of this bovine excrement.
Advertisers are on these networks either because they are into the 'agenda' or are bullied into thinking that the public will believe they are not PC enough to sell their products.
Follow the money - Comcast owns NBC and through their cable network (now all digital) 'they' (read big brother) can monitor EVERYTHING you do in the media world.

And yet....

Submitted by c5then on Mon, 03/19/2012 - 8:19am.

Every regular American knows it was Obama and the democrats who tried to force religious institutions to fund something that was completely against their religious core values.

This coverage by the liberal media has really served to wake up many in the electorate as to how biased and how unethical most of the so-called "journalists" are.

Not only are the liberals "crying wolf" but they are pointing to a squirrel and trying to claim that it really is a wolf this time.

Georgie takes his order of

Submitted by celator on Mon, 03/19/2012 - 9:56am.

Georgie takes his order of battle instructions from the White House every Monday. We know it. He knows we know it. We know he knows we know it.

And he doesn't care.

Somebody in the WH must have some mighty juicy information on Georgie to force him to disgrace himself so willingly every day.

What does it mean when a senator, that is right in the middle of this absurd lie, does not understand the fraud?

McCain didn't even notice Steve Schmidt & Nicole Wallace sabotaging his Presidential campaign, so I doubt he'd catch on to the latest MSM tricks.
