ABC Relays Liberal Ron Reagan’s Slam of Palin as Having ‘Nothing in Common with His Father’
On Saturday’s Good Morning America on ABC, as he anchored the show’s regular series of news briefs during the 7:00 a.m. hour, Ron Claiborne relayed liberal commentator Ron Reagan’s criticism of Sarah Palin as having "nothing in common with his father," former President Ronald Reagan, in response to her words at a celebration of the former President’s 100th birthday. Claiborne did not inform ABC viewers that Ron Reagan is a liberal who has a history of criticizing his father’s political policies as well as attacking other conservatives. Claiborne:
And former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin says America needs to return to the values of Ronald Reagan. In a speech celebrating Reagan’s 100 th birthday, which is tomorrow, Palin said that America is on a road to ruin because of what she characterized as "misguided policies" in Washington, D.C. But one of Reagan’s sons, Ron Reagan, says Palin has nothing in common with his father.

Wouldn't that mean he would really LIKE Sarah Palin? After all, he didn't like anything about his dad so if Palin was nothing like his dad, Ron would like her and so would the rest of the liberal ilk.
He's right

I don't agree with Ron Reagan very often, but he is right on this issue. Palin, the ignorant bimbo, has nothing in common with the great Ronald Reagan.

I'd like to ask Ron Reagan as he seems to be well versed in his father's conservative principles. But since you and Ron apparently have the same view, I'll ask you instead.
On what issues does Palin have positions that are inconsistent with Reagan? I'm sure there are plenty. But I figure you've got a list handy and wouldn't mind sharing it with me.
By "issues" I mean general public policy positions on topics such as: immigration, deficit spending, government size, international trade, the military, free market economics, etc.
If you could be so kind as to tell me the position of each so I can fully understand the contrasts, it would be exceedingly helpful.
Thank you in advance for any assistance you can provide.
I would like to offer one...

Hey Jake:
Please don't construde that I am supporting Amanda in any way. I am not. I also do not know how Palin feels on the issue of immigration, legal or not. I do know how I feel... and I was very pleased to learn recently that Reagan's views were very similar to mine... even though they tend to run contrary to current conservative thought.
According to Daniel Griswold of the Cato Institute (http://www.cato.org/pub_display.php?pub_id=2705)...
"Like President George W. Bush today, Reagan had the good sense and compassion to see illegal immigrants not as criminals but as human beings striving to build better lives through honest work."
I sure wish more of my conservative cohorts looked at these people as individuals rather than labeling them all as criminals and dumping them into the same catagory as rapists and murderers.
I believe that any immigrant, legal or illegal, who is willing and able to contribute positively to our culture and economy should be welcome to stay. Please note this EXLUDES the criminals and leaches.

"Reagan Would Not Repeat Amnesty Mistake" by Edwin Meese III

Dear Red:
Submitted by beauxdog on Sun, 02/06/2011 - 3:14pm.
Good article... but it agrees with me almost 100%.
The only disagreement was the part about having to exit the country and re-enter legally... but that was Meese's opinion, not Reagan's. If the ability to immigrate legally was as open as it was in the days of Ellis Island, I would not object to that. However... there is no Ellis Island for the Hispanics.
I also agree that Reagan would not approach this the same way today as he did in 1986.
The failure in 1986 was not in offering amnesty to the people who met the strict criteria of not being criminals or leaches... it was the failure of the Democrats to keep up their end of the bargain and secure the borders, then administer and strictly enforce the requirements.
"I believe in the idea of amnesty for those who have put down roots and lived here, even though sometime back they may have entered illegally", Ronald Reagan (1984).
I agree with Ronald Reagan.
I do not agree with democrats that amnesty should automatically lead to citizenship. Citizenship for illegals should ultimately be possible, but very difficult to acquire.
I see your point. I agree

You are a liberal and liberals are the biggest sexists and the biggest bigots. If Palin was a man, there would be no question about her intellect. Ah, but she is attractive, has long hair, and makes many liberals look like morons.
Face it, if Palin cut her hair and grew some fuzz on her face (like Hillary Clinton and Mrs. Obama) you wouldn't call her a bimbo. However, because she is unbelievably attractive as well as outspoken and intelligent, you call her a bimbo.
Think long and hard about what you have turned into.

From WikipediaBimbo is a term that in popular English language usage describes a woman who is physically attractive but is perceived to have a low intelligence or poor education. The term can also be used to describe a woman who acts in a sexually promiscuous manner. The term itself is not explicitly negative, but can be used as a derogative insult towards a woman. .... Its first inclusion in an official dictionary for its female meaning was in 1929, where the definition was given simply as "a woman"...The term Bimbo is often associated with, but is separate from, the stereotypes of "Dumb Blonde" and "Valley Girl".
She has been a mayor and a Governor of a state with a larger GDP than Arkansas (from which the real bimbos or "dumb blondes" came into the White House). She has demonstrated that she can hold her own with people like Biden, who is the current VP and laughingstock, and has demonstrated that she understands conservatism and accurately espouses it. She is NOT eloquent, but speaks from the heart.
You may dislike her personally, and may attribute many negative attributes to her because of your dislikes, but "bimbo" does not apply.

Shared Values Between Palin & Reagan
Submitted by Boil It Down on Sun, 02/06/2011 - 8:14am.
Do Reagan and Palin have things in Common? Yes, most definitely, but articulated in different ways. The overarching principles of the same shared values are unquestionable unless you are Ron Jr or those equally in denial of the obvious. Palin is not in the same league as Reagan when it comes to expressing the same themes in deeply profound statements and speeches. In that way and their degree of influence, they do not have common ground.
Ron Jr needs some study time on his father. I've been going through Reagan's speeches and find Ron Jr's recent interviews even more appalling with every bit of history I review.
I can't see myself supporting Palin's run in 2012, but I think she is a vital part of restoring American values and a Constitutional government. The common values she shares with Ronald Reagan are key to revitalizing the movement.
ABC and Claiborne certainly do seem to interject Ron Jr's opinions as often as possible. Wouldn't you think they'd shoot for someone with higher credibility?
The only thing Ron Reagan Jr. has in common . . .
Submitted by Galvanic on Sun, 02/06/2011 - 1:33pm.
. . . with the former President is his name and genetics.
Palin's rhetoric is much the same as Reagan's, calling on Americans to restore the traditional values that underpinned our success and our progress. She cites Reagan's indomitable optimism and his love of American exceptionalism.
Is she the leader that Reagan was? Certainly not.
Junior's politics are Hollywood's, and more aligned with his mother's than his father's. There's nothing wrong with that; he's entitled to his views.
But everytime I hear Junior describe something about his father (in this case, comparisons with Palin), he seems like he's apologizing to his liberal pals for his father's Administration. The Alzheimer's charge in his most recent book is a good example. Though he backed off a bit when he came under fire, Junior appeared to be dismissing his father's conservative policies as the side-effects of a mentally debilitating disease.
The MSM loves to put the spotlight on the liberal offspring of prominent Republicans politicians, as if their liberal views somehow make them enlightened sages.
But more significant than being the children of conseravtives, they are children of great wealth, and it is not uncommon people who have never had to worry about earning a living to disparage the values and even the people (i.e. parents) that provided for them.
Junior is not unlike Meghan McCain, and the MSM loves them because they will say anything to curry favor with the MSM and make them celebrities.

I request you modify and apologize for the above post. As a conservative, I do not like Ron Reagan's opinion, but as a person who believes in life I do not believe that a glib opinion that "he should have been aborted" is anything other than stupidity. All are God's creation, liberal or conservative, and if you respect the Creator you have to respect life. With responses like yours, you have sunk to the level of Ron Reagan and those who malign the memory of a great American and what he stood for.

Well, Historian, I will accept your criticism of my post as a reflection of your belief system. I am not pro-abortion and, as a fair person, I can respect both points of view on the subject. As such, according to about half the people in this country, my comment simply reflects the liberal point of view that, had this person been terminated while he was, in their opinion, simply a piece of meat and cluster of cells then there was no harm done. I would feel the same about Charles Manson, Osama BinLaden and Adolph Hitler.
If you find my post to be so offensive, most browsers are equipped with a feature that will filter out my posts from your display. It is that small 'x' on the very upper right corner of your browser screen.

Legacy
Submitted by Gothampc on Sun, 02/06/2011 - 2:34pm.
I always find it interesting who tries to control the legacy of a public figure.
For example, in Martin Luther King's legacy, his niece Alveda is conservative and pro-life. On the other side is Jesse Jackson who is as liberal as they come. Both claiming they know what MLK stood for.
I think Ron Reagan Jr. is just looking for attention and a way to make more money. Recently, Time magazine came out with the "Obama as Reagan" motif. I know that Reagan Jr. probably wants to spin history so that it aligns up with his belief system, but there is too much history out there that proves him wrong. The internet is full of his father's speeches. So all he has left is to make baseless claims like his father had Alzheimer's while in office. He should really be ashamed of himself for saying things like that. Even if Reagan was sick, what's the point of perpetuating that fact? It doesn't change the past. Is he so ashamed of his father that Reagan Jr. has to run him down in public and destroy the memory of a great man?
So why doesn't Reagan Jr. outline what he thinks his father really believed? Give us a list of points where Reagan and Palin aren't in agreement.
