Bloomberg’s Carlson Accuses Lieberman of ‘Violating Every Democratic Principle,’ He ‘Broke Iraq, Let Him Go Fix It’
On Friday’s Political Capital, during a discussion of Democratic-turned independent Senator Joe Lieberman’s retirement, Bloomberg’s Margaret Carlson took a shot at him as she charged that, "Since he broke Iraq, let him go fix it," before suggesting that he be appointed ambassador to Iraq. After asserting that Lieberman "got a little bitter in his later years," she accused him of "violating every democratic principle" in running as an independent after losing the Democratic primary in 2006.
Kate O’Beirne of the National Review argued that the Democratic Party’s inability to accept the liberal Lieberman as being liberal enough for them solely because of his stance on Iraq hurts the party’s image on national defense: "And it just says so much about the modern Democratic Party. Boy, oh boy, if they don't have room for somebody like Joe Lieberman has, and then they wonder why they score so low when it comes to who do you trust on national security?"
Below is a transcript of the relevant portion of the Friday, January 21, Political Capital on Bloomberg:
AL HUNT: Speaking of gracious, Joe Lieberman retired this week. Margaret, what’s his legacy?
MARGARET CARLSON: Well, I have the perfect job for him. Since he broke Iraq, let him go fix it, and I hope the President appoints him ambassador to Baghdad. You know, Joe is a nice old curmudgeon who got a little bitter in his later years. Why would he have expected to be nominated for the Democratic nomination in Connecticut after violating every democratic principle? So, you know, that bitterness came through with his buddy John McCain. But I think, you know, he goes on to, you know, his legacy with Don't Ask Don't Tell, I think, is probably a good way for him to go out.
HUNT: Kate?
KATE O’BEIRNE: Joe Lieberman, in the space of six years, went from obviously being the vice presidential nominee to being personal non grata in a Democratic primary. He is a very reliable liberal, Al, on taxes, on spending, on health care, on immigration, on cap and trade. His fatal, fatal action, given the Democratic left, was backing the war in Iraq. And it just says so much about the modern Democratic Party. Boy, oh boy, if they don't have room for somebody like Joe Lieberman has, and then they wonder why they score so low when it comes to who do you trust on national security?

Lieberman is very 'pro-Israel' and democrats despise him for it. Ask any democrat why they hate Joe Lieberman and they are likely to say because he is a dual citizen of Israel and the U.S.
Democrats are not really the friends of Jews or Israel like they might have been 30 years ago.
That's why they bad-mouth Mr. Lieberman. I don't even think he IS a dual citizen but they make these lies up about him. You know, like they do with everyone?
If you're Jewish and you are still voting Democrat then you have not been paying attention for awhile.

That's sheer nonsense and incredibly insulting to Jews, Democrats, and the millions of Jews who are also Democrats.

Then why else are so many Democrats opposed to Lieberman? He understands the dangers that both Israel and the United States face. For example, with Iran. Ahmajinedad scares me and he scares Lieberman. That man needs to be stopped from getting nuclear weapons. Lieberman supports this position. Why don't other Democrats?
If it sounded like I was insulting Jews I apologize. I simply believe too many Democrats are turning out to be like Jimmy Carter on Israel.

The democrat party, especially the Ass Clown in our White House can not stand the Jewish State of Israel.
They do however have a soft spot for one aspect of the American Jew.........their vote.

I wonder if Ms. Carlson was equally as scathing against Lisa Murkowski's write-in race in Alaska after losing the GOP primary?

Since he broke Iraq, let him go fix it
There is nothing to fix. THE WAR IS OVER. We signed a SOFA agreement in 2008 that would have us leave at the end of 2011. We signed that with a valid soveriegn freely elected government. The Prime Minister of that government now says pretty unequivocally that our troops will be out at the end of 2011. All combat ended last summer. Am I the only one reading the newspapers?
THE WAR IS OVER. WE WON. WE ARE LEAVING A BETTER GOVERNMENT BEHIND.
So knock it off with the broke Iraq lies.

You're not referring to the same withdrawl agreement that GWB signed and got no credit for which Obama campaigned and took credit for 6 months later? That agreement?

It's going to be really interesting to see how it plays out for Scott Brown when he tries to get re-elected. Same thing may play out for him as he didn't vote the way the Tea Party wanted him to on some issues.

Margaret Carlson and Mark Shields (on another show) continue to demonstrate the close-minded intolerance of the "liberal" left. They are prime examples of what happens to someone who dares to think on his own. Ever disagree with a committed "liberal"? They'll hate you forever. Ever been in the class of a committed "liberal" professor? Don't you dare to express a dissenting point of view! In their minds,Joe Lieberman might as well have committed murder as do what he did. I am not one who wishes to remove any "liberal" from the airwaves. As long as we have all points of view broadcast, let them keep evincing what it is to be a "liberal". And let those with common sense and rational thought processes prevail---because they will--while nasty "liberals" like Carlson and Shields continue to make fools of themselves.
NEVER,NEVER trust a "liberal" (progressive)

When Arlen Specter announced that he was jumping parties because some Republicans threatened to run a conservative Repubican against him in the PA primary, the MSM declared that the GOP was becoming a shrinking, extreme right -- and IRRELEVANT -- political party, while the Democratic Party has been and remains the inclusive "Big Tent."
But when MoveOn.org and friends decided that Lieberman was too pro-Israel & pro-OIF for their likings, they backed Lamont in the CT primary to force Lieberman out of the Senate. As history shows, he had the last laugh.
In forcing Lieberman out -- a liberal and former Democratic VP candidate in 2000 -- the Dems have shown that their Big Tent is a lie.

Why would he have expected to be nominated for the Democratic nomination in Connecticut after violating every democratic principle?
Principles like voting to go to war, and then pretending they had their fingers crossed behind their backs at the first signs of trouble? Or like running against the policies of the adminstration on the war during the election, and then continuing them after elected? Or like claiming credit for victory after calling the architect of the victory an idiot and a liar?
Those are the "Democratic principles" that ensure I will never vote for another one of them again... no, not even for dogcatcher. Dogs are loyal and trustworthy friends, and deserve our support.
