Uniquely among the broadcast network evening newscasts, ABC’s World News on Wednesday informed viewers of display items for the National Archives planned for next month’s commemoration of President Reagan’s 100 th birthday. Anchor Diane Sawyer recounted that Reagan had made "handwritten changes" to his 1983 speech in which he called the Soviet Union an "Evil Empire." Sawyer:

And rarely seen reminders of Ronald Reagan and the Cold War are going on display in Washington to mark President Reagan’s 100 th birthday next month. The National Archives showing his handwritten changes to the famous 1983 speech branding the Soviet Union an "Evil Empire." And also on exhibit, letters and a bronze statue of the Kremlin sent by former Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev.

Let Reagan be Reagan

Submitted by KC Mulville on Thu, 01/06/2011 - 10:30am.

The legend is that Reagan had wanted the "evil empire" phrase in the speech from the beginning, but his "handlers" vigorously tried to keep it out. Finally, when Reagan was about to deliver the speech, he put it back in. It was a case of Ronald Reagan himself letting Reagan be Reagan.

The aides were worried it would upset people. Reagan understood that upsetting people isn't always a bad thing.

Certainly not.   I think he needs to adopt the "look into his eyes and see his soul" policy of his predecessor.

Look into someone's eye?

Submitted by hbnolikeee on Thu, 01/06/2011 - 11:21am.

BO is either looking at someone zipper while bowing to them and kissing their whatever or looking up at the clouds.

He is above all of us or didn't you notice?

And perhaps you cannot, but some people can look at you as you speak and see if you're full of crap.

Name calling

But it is fine and dandy when BO calls the cops "stupid" and Holter calls American's a bunch of "cowards." Reagan spoke the truth.

His Only Mistake....

Submitted by GeneralAl on Thu, 01/06/2011 - 11:32am.

Reagan's only mistake after calling the evil Soviet Union for what it was is that he didn't mention the evil empire of the Liberal Main Stream Media!

"Old Soldiers never die, they just fade away"!
