CBS Highlights Armed Shop Owner Who Fought Back Against Robbers
While it is unusual for the mainstream media to give attention to armed citizens who use guns to defend themselves against criminals before police can arrive, on Thursday’s CBS Evening News, anchor Harry Smith highlighted a smoke shop owner in Texas who fought back when he was the victim of two armed robbers, as he shot and apparently wounded one of them.
Smith related to viewers:
The owner of a smoke shop in Waco, Texas, knows how to stay cool under pressure. Early Wednesday, two robbers pulled guns on him and his friend. Surveillance video shows the owner, Amar Kayah (sp?), didn't panic, possibly because he had his own gun under the counter. Suddenly, there was a firefight. Somehow, Kayah and his friend were not hurt. He's pretty sure he hit one of the robbers who got away with $150.

You need look no further than the shop owners name to understand why the lame street media is enamored with the guy.
I bet the Ass Clown will personally call him when he gets back to Washington with an atta boy.

In Texas, we have shop owners/merchants who will fight back and who know how to handle a gun, ALL THE TIME. I haven't noticed those incidents being reported in the lame stream media with any fervor.

If you have Sirius Radio you can hear about things like this every night on Cam and Company. Each Friday Tim Graham of NB is a guest on the roundtable. If you are a gun owner it is very good.
Pretty sure I hit him?

You need more time at the range friend. We Texans don't "Think we hit the bad guy," we turn him into a sieve and save the State of Texas the cost of a trial! Harry Smith covering a GUN story? Amazing.

That's what I love about Texans-better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6. Your idea of gun control is hitting what you're aiming at.
Well This owner KNOWS he hit the robbers

One would think that you'd see Couric railing against those Big Tobbakker heathens as well as the NRA and the "gun lobby." This type of story doesn't add up, to be honest.
Does one see a trend in the mainstream media to become more...well, mainstream? Nahhhh...

If the robbers had stolen trans fats and salt, this would have been the lead story on every network!

I think Harry is trying to appeal more to the gun crowd to try seem like he is less a left wing liberal and more centerist.
Good luck Harry, I don't see it happening.

Either this guy is going to end up with a good sized piece of attaboy from fellow merchants in the area, with a side of 'lets not mess with him, he carries in his place' from the crooks...
OR the thieves are gonna try to run that play again in numbers. (Target rich environment, anyone?)
Odd. Out here in Vegas we have a very nice, very proud cuban expat running a cigar parlor, rolled right on the premises by experts. He VERY happily and proudly carries, right there on his hip. Great guy, and good cigars, too. Would that more small businesses out here carried.

authorities find the one who was hit, either dead or alive, the story will go one of two ways.
1. Pan to a sobbing woman, "He was just gettin his life turned around, he was goin back to get his GED and everythin".
2. If alive, "Man, I just wents in to get some smokes, and the fool be shootin me, I didn't do nuthin".
And, Harry will be back to highlight the tragic consequences of using a gun, to defend oneself.
