CBS’s Andy Rooney: Obama Is ‘Doing the Best Job He Knows How and It’s Good Enough for Me’

By Brad Wilmouth | November 15, 2010 | 09:34

A  A

As he devoted his regular 60 Minutes segment on Sunday to complaining about surveys, CBS’s Andy Rooney declared his belief that President Obama is "doing the best job he knows how, and it’s good enough for me." Rooney, who has a history of openly admitting that his political views are liberal, also gave viewers some insight into his social circle as having like-minded views on politics as he relayed to viewers that eight out of nine friends he asked also like Obama. Rooney complained:

Gallup said that they surveyed over 90,000 Americans for this one poll. I mean, where was I when they were calling people about President Obama? The survey said that only 44 percent of us approve of President Obama’s performance. Well, I surveyed nine of my friends, and eight of them said they liked Obama but didn’t trust Gallup polls. As far as I’m concerned, Obama’s doing the best job he knows how, and it’s good enough for me.

Below is a transcript of the beginning of Rooney’s segment from the Sunday, November 14, 60 Minutes on CBS:

ANDY ROONEY: Some days it seems as though I spend about half my time reading surveys. It isn’t enough to know what you think, you have to read about what other people think, too. They take surveys for everything now. You read about surveys asking what people think about the economy, about cars, about what people are buying, what they’re eating, and what they think of the job that President Obama is doing.

A Gallup poll says that President Obama’s approval rating was at an all-time low. As far as I’m concerned, Obama’s doing the best job he knows how, and it’s good enough for me.

well, gol-leee, Mr. Rooney,

It should be good enough for everybody else too!

After all, just because he promised us he could do all these things, there's no reason to be upset that he's not!

After all, at least he's trying!!!  (the liberal excuse for every failure).

Bye Bye Andy

Submitted by djm159 on Mon, 11/15/2010 - 1:28pm.

Since this guy will obviously never leave the air and he is quite obviously senile, I would agree with Paul Krugman that death panels would be appropriate in Rooney's case. He quite clearly does not have the class and/or intelligence to understand that no one gives a tinker's dam what Andy Rooney says. Get the hook, it's time for Andy to depart.

Check back in the archives NB, I am sure he said the same puffery for George W Bush as well.

A interesting story about Andy Rooney.

Submitted by RichieBABY on Mon, 11/15/2010 - 9:57am.

Andy Rooney by some quirk was a customer of mine when I owned a high end mobile electronics retail store in the Great State of NJ. One day he comes in with a K-40 radar detector that was KAPUT. He requests it be sent back to K-40 for repair. I instruct one of my employees to include a note in the box of Rooney's K-40, that the unit returned is owned by him.

K-40 overnights by FED EX a brand spanking new K-40, and a updated model to boot, of course at NO CHARGE.

REFUSED by Andy Rooney. I want my old one fixed.

side bar: His intital visit to tell me about his K-40 which was KAPUT, he was in Paramus, NJ. going from one gas station to another to buy ONE GALLON of gas, so that he could pay them at the time 73.9 cents.

In the mood to hear another story about another famous person?  Francis Ford Copolla, of The Godfather fame and fortune, spends in my store $17,500 dollars for a audio/video system for his one of a kind Citroen/Massratti LIMO. Installation featured in Stereo Review Mag. Payment was made in full via a letter from Zoetrope Studios which he owns, informing me of their bankcruptcy. GO POUND SAND!

Submitted by Van Halen on Mon, 11/15/2010 - 10:03am.

I asked all the people in my Liberal bubble and they all thought like I did? So what's the problem?

This is a great example of the snob-elite out of touch Liberals who can't see beyond their inner circle and have no idea that the country is in shambles because of 22 months of Obama's horrific policies. They also refuse to accept that the wars they railed about before Obama took office have now expanded into Pakistan and Yemen.

Van, the shambles isn't

Submitted by MikeB on Mon, 11/15/2010 - 1:10pm.

Van, the shambles isn't because of 22 months of Obama's policies.  That was the extra tonne of steel that broke the camel's back.  The shambles is the result of decades of liberal Democrat (redundant) tax and spend policies, of CRAp, which mandated that banks lend money for mortgages to people who couldn't afford to pay that money back, of not only refusing, but preventing oversight and regulation of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, etc., etc., etc.

Submitted by Rusty Shackleford on Mon, 11/15/2010 - 10:07am.

If I randomly selected 9 of my friends I doubt you could find much of anything that 8 out of 9 would support, but then I don't live in a lefty echo chamber and none of my leftwing friends are that ideologically rigid that they would discriminate against those with different views (as Rooney appears to do).

He's just a jerk...

Submitted by owr084 on Mon, 11/15/2010 - 10:42am.

I remember years ago when Rooney went on a rant about how "Rain-X" did not work.  The makers of Rain-X fought back and it was soon discovered that Rooney had clearly not followed the instructions on how to apply it.

I view Rooney's rants as an indication that he did not "RTFM" (or any other version of "RTF...").

Submitted by Smartypants on Mon, 11/15/2010 - 10:55am.

I see how it works.  Obama is doing the best he knows how to do, and so that's all that matters.  When GW Bush did the best he knew how to do, the left, including Rooney, had a collective hissy fit.  The fact that this doofus thinks what he and his selected friends think is all that matters is truly astonishing.  Just how brain dead does one have to be to get on television nowadays?

"Good Enough"

Submitted by Pilgrim1949 on Mon, 11/15/2010 - 12:43pm.

Oh yeah, "good enough" for government work.....when your "personal best" is all that's needed.

Yup, early warning and existing defenses were "good enough" for Hawaii on Dec. 7, 1941.

The "system worked" perfectly for the Titanic in the wintry North Atlantic; surely it was "good enough" for all those who quickly assumed ice-cube (versus "room") temperature in the frigid waters.

Hindenberg construction/composition was "good enough" for its last mooring attempt (as no doubt attested to by "the humanity" that managed to survive).

Then there's ol' POTUS Jimmy's "Desert One" mission, which was "good enough" in execution.

Our history of Government Sponsored excellence is repleat with endless examples of "good enough"....

One supposes that a parachute rigger's "off day" of mispacking both main and reserve chutes, so that neither one open as expected, would also be deemed "good enough" and the rigger's"best" would be comforting should ol' Andy find himself plummeting Earthward at 120 mph with nothing flapping overhead butt tangled strips of nylon.  Having personally skydived multiple times, I would not be peacefully basking in that self-deluded glow all the way to impact with the ground.  A main chute tangle had me vigorously maniplating the risers until the tangled lines separated.  I didn't adopt the "victim" mentality of "well, I guess that was the best the rigger could do" and calmly await my fate.  Then again, perhaps I'm not as progressively "enlightened" as our curmudgenly host.

What a bunch of desperate Obamaniacal bootlicking.

Sheesh.....

Good enough?  Are you nuts?  Geeze, guy, if it helps you to be more honest in your assessment of how well ol' jug ears has done, pretend he is a white Republican... or better yet, a black conservative Republican.  I'm sure if that were the case, and we had these results, you would be calling for his impeachment and removal from office.
