During MSNBC’s live coverage of President Obama’s speech to Congress, anchor Keith Olbermann tried to discredit Congressman Charles Boustany immediately after the Louisiana Republican finished giving the Republican response, as the MSNBC host informed viewers that Boustany – a heart surgeon – had been "sued for malpractice three times," allegedly subscribes to the "Birther" conspiracy theory raising questions about Obama’s citizenship, and was even supposedly taken in by a scam as he tried to purchase the British title of "Lord."
Olbermann:
Congressman Boustany, we should note, has been sued for malpractice three times. He is a "Birther" who believes there are questions about the President’s citizenship, and, as Rachel [Maddow] reported last night, he is a man recorded in court papers to have fallen for a scam in which he tried to buy the British royalty title of "Lord."
The MSNBC host even took a dig at Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal, tagging as an "epic failure" his speech responding to Obama’s State of the Union last February.
Moments later – after the night’s special Countdown show had started airing – Olbermann again mocked Boustany over being scammed: "In the Republican response, the goal would seem to be delaying reform. Congressman – would-be Lord – Boustany of Louisiana proposing that lawmakers chuck everything out and start over."
By contrast, Olbermann reacted to Obama’s speech by oozing that the speech possessed a "touch of greatness": "It was, to say the least, a broad and forward thinking speech. On the rhetoric and the phrasing and the pacing and the design of the speech itself there seems to have been a touch of greatness."
Below is a transcript of the relevant portions of the Wednesday, September 9, coverage of President Obama’s speech and the Republican response on MSNBC:
KEITH OLBERMANN, AT 9:10 P.M.: Congressman Boustany, we should note, has been sued for malpractice three times. He is a "Birther" who believes there are questions about the President’s citizenship, and, as Rachel [Maddow] reported last night, he is a man recorded in court papers to have fallen for a scam in which he tried to buy the British royalty title of "Lord." He gave the Republican answer tonight. Governor Jindal’s epic failure after the State of the Union should have reminded all: Never write the rebuttal before you read the speech.

Which doctor isnt being sued in this trial lawyer
September 9, 2009 - 23:57 ET by jondelwichedominated country? Obie is an idiot of epic proportions.
That is why we are spending 500 or 600 billion EVERY
year in defensive medicine.
There will be no decelerating our health costs without:
1. tort reform
2. honest end of life discussions
3. Personal responsibility re: obesity and exercise
You have fallen into a trap
September 10, 2009 - 06:28 ET by richb313I am afraid you have fallen into the trap of believing the popular notion that excercise, while good, has not really shown to improve the later years in life. The only thing excersise can garuntee is a good looking corpse. Obesity has been defined downwards for the last 50 years. We all know when we see an obese person but what you probably do not know is that unless you can maintain a low bodyfat index, which is considered dangerously low for some people, you are obese. What is important is if you are healthy, not how much bodyfat you carry. As far as an honest end of life discussion it never really happens. Do I think that extrodinary efforts should always be used, no. The problem is that when any end of life discussion as a policy is used by either insurance companies or government you get more than the cessation of advanced techniques you also get things like the withdrawl of food and water which not only hastens but garuntees death. I am sorry that is not anyones decision to make but Gods.
Huh?
September 10, 2009 - 07:56 ET by jondelwicheSo I've fallen into the trap of thinking exercise is not good? Or are you saying exercise is NOT good.....
And obesity has been defined down? Huh? Do you look around as you walk a street or mall?
I am afraid you live in an alternate universe from me, but I wish you well.
And end of life discussion can be cheap and easy---people should be encouraged to visit/volunteer at a nursing home once a month. Much would be learned about length of live vs quality of life.
I love Rush, but he drives
September 10, 2009 - 08:41 ET by NewsbusterbrownI love Rush, but he drives me crazy when he talks about exercise. I have to mute him until he finishes his rant.

September 10, 2009 - 02:11 ET by JWFIf you try to google boustany and lord, you get about 50 million hits with leftists passing on the same thing. Can't find an actual news item on it through all the trash.

September 10, 2009 - 02:26 ET by JWFthere are supposed to be court records. there is these 2 guys. Stefanos Kollakis and Martin Lewis. I have a year. 1996. no 1995
But nothing, accusations, some democrat strategist saw some court records somewhere. What is up with this? This sounds a lot like slander. Hell, even the wikipedia does not have this lord title nonsense.
You would figure a man smart enough to be a surgeon would know you cannot buy nobility. What gives? This is fishy.

Remember folks, Freedom isn't Free. It was bought with the blood and sacrifice of the men and women who are serving and who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces.
For those who fought for it, Freedom has a flavor that the protected will never know.
Also remember folks, that the way to SUPPORT THE TROOPS is to support their mission. Anyone who says that they support the troops but don't support their mission is lying about supporting the troops. And if you want to know, yes I do have a dog in the fight, he is a United States Marine.

September 10, 2009 - 11:32 ET by cajun2Dr. Boustany has no illusions to royalty. He is of cajun descent and proud of it. He seems quiet, no, he is simply a gentleman. Hard to recognize since there are so few of those left in the world. He is a conservative with strong convictions and is well liked and respected here. He is also an excellant example of the need for tort reform.
