Charlie Daniels Column: Our U.S. Olympic Team Was Pure Gold!

By Charlie Daniels | August 14, 2012 | 16:08

A  A

I can't speak for anybody else but my wife and myself have been immersed in the Summer Olympic games from London the last few days.

Of course the athleticism has been incredible, the best planet earth has to offer and whether seasoned veteran or rookie they gave it their all, even the athletes who came to the games knowing that their chances of winning a medal were about as likely as growing wings, left nothing on the field of competition with the exception of a couple of shameful examples of jockeying for position by intentionally losing a preliminary match.

Charlie Daniels Column: The Clock Is Ticking, America

By Charlie Daniels | August 13, 2012 | 16:22

A  A

I sometimes wonder how far some Americans are going to stick their heads in the sand and pretend that the policies Obama is putting in place will actually bring the American economy back to prosperity. I wonder if some people even really care about what we have already done to the generations to follow, what kind of future they will have, burdened with the debt being left to them.

I can't help but ponder why people are still gullible enough to totally blame the ruinous state of the economy on George W. Bush after three and a half years of Obama's total and abject fiscal failure even after holding power over the White House and both houses of Congress for two full years.

Charlie Daniels Column: Yes, Mr. President, I Did Build This!

By Charlie Daniels | July 30, 2012 | 17:16

A  A

When you make your living in the public arena as I do and when you let your opinion be known as I do in mainstream and social media, you expect some criticism and this is as it should be, this being America where our very way of life is centered around free speech.

I don't mind the criticism and usually give as good as I get, respecting all comers, regardless of how far afield or how vehement I consider our differences to be, but lately I have been receiving a small amount of correspondence from people who resent the headway that, through the blessings of God and hard work, I have made in my life.

Charlie Daniels Column: Mr. President, When It Comes to Business, You Haven't a Clue

By Charlie Daniels | July 20, 2012 | 16:16

A  A

Mr. Obama,

You recently made a statement to the effect that, ”If you have a business you didn't build it, you had help" inferring that the federal government helped build our businesses by virtue of paving roads and building bridges and keeping the nation safe from foreign invasion.

First of all, Mr. Obama, if I'm going to take advice about business it will not be from somebody who has had absolutely no business experience like yourself.

Charlie Daniels Column: The 'Arms Trade Treaty' Is a Danger to Our Right to Keep and Bear Arms

By Charlie Daniels | July 18, 2012 | 12:19

A  A

On July 27 Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, acting on behalf of the United States of America will sign an international treaty through the auspices of the United Nations that is known as the Arms Trade Treaty, which will be represented by the Obama Administration as being a way to keep guns out of the hands of terrorists and criminals and would have no effect on private gun ownership in America.

First of all, have you even heard about such a treaty, do you approve of an inept, corrupt, crooked, anti-American agency like the United Nations having anything to do with gun control in America or anyplace else?

Charlie Daniels Column: I'm Sick and Tired of Fear-mongering by the Left

By Charlie Daniels | July 10, 2012 | 17:06

A  A

I'm literally sick and tired of people - who instead of having anything constructive or even intelligent for that matter - to add to any conversation they disagree with, repeat what they've heard someone say on TV or read about in the newspaper as being the absolute truth and are not willing to listen to any other opinion, no matter how sensible.

I'm totally frustrated and out of patience with people who, if you say something about cutting entitlements, they say that you want to starve poor people, or if you say you’re tired of seeing money wasted on an educational system that isn't working that you don't care if underprivileged children get educated or call you a racist because you criticize the policies of Barack Obama.

Charlie Daniels Column: Our Independence Has Been Paid for With the Blood of Brave Men and Women

By Charlie Daniels | July 04, 2012 | 11:57

A  A

This week we celebrate the 236th year of American independence, purchased and defended with the blood of patriots.

We won our Revolution against all odds fighting, what at that time was, the greatest standing army and most powerful navy in the world.

Charlie Daniels Column: The United States Is More Divided Than Ever

By Charlie Daniels | June 26, 2012 | 15:23

A  A

I have lived in the United States of America for some 75 years. I’ve witnessed a World War, the nuclear age, segregation, the Viet Nam fiasco and 12 presidential administrations and I have never seen this nation as divided as it is today.

The divisions are not only along racial, financial and political lines but sexual, religious, and moral issues divide us as never before in history.

Attitude Is What Success Is All About

By Charlie Daniels | June 23, 2012 | 20:25

A  A

When I hire a new employee, whether it is a musician, a crewmember or a driver several factors come into play.

Of course, in the case of a musician, the first thing I consider is how well they play, how their style of playing goes with the band's music, and their stage presence. Another important factor for somebody becoming a member of The CDB is the respect they have for the heritage and reputation of a band that has been around for over forty years.

Charlie Daniels Column: Printing More Dollars Could End in Disaster

By Charlie Daniels | June 20, 2012 | 10:01

A  A

Let me preface this by saying that I really appreciate everybody's response on the soapbox every week, whether they be pro or con. I certainly don't expect everybody to agree with my opinion.

I rarely respond to the comments made unless I have, what I feel, is a very important and specific reason for doing so.

Charlie Daniels Column: This Election Year, Tune Out the Media

By Charlie Daniels | June 12, 2012 | 11:29

A  A

I don't know who is going to win this next election; conventional wisdom says it’s too close to call. Some of the most notable pundits are predicting a Republican rout in the Congress and Senate, but that is, at best, just an educated guess.

Even if there is a complete changing of the guard in this election cycle, the American people will have to accept the fact that the building -- or in this case the tearing down of Rome -- did not take place in a day or a decade for that matter, and there will be no quick fix.

Charlie Daniels Column: Obama Should Look to the States

By Charlie Daniels | June 04, 2012 | 17:11

A  A

The toll that government has taken on industry in this country is nothing less than insane.

The unwieldy and unnecessary regulations, the threats of exorbitant taxes and - most of all - the uncertainty of what else this out of control administration will impose, should it be reelected, has chased industry out of the nation and put on hold the hiring, construction, replacement orders and startups of new companies it takes to make this economy thrive.

The federal government could learn a valuable lesson from some of the more aggressive states who go out after and procure manufacturers who have seen their bottom line drastically reduced by operating in profligate, cash hungry states.

Charlie Daniels Column: Solving America’s Problems By Coming Together

By Charlie Daniels | May 29, 2012 | 14:39

A  A

I want to ask a favor of all who are reading this column. Could we just for three minutes put aside our conservatism, our liberalism, our Republican or Democrat party affiliations, our race and gender and all the other superficial things that separate us?

Can we just for a few minutes, in the true sense of the word, just be Americans? Can we all just briefly put aside the animosity, clear our minds and exercise common sense without the media sensationalism, the political rhetoric and all the other distractions that influence our opinions?

Let’s Not Forget This Memorial Day

By Charlie Daniels | May 28, 2012 | 08:35

A  A

This weekend is Memorial Day Weekend when we remember, reflect and pay homage to all the men and women who have paid the ultimate price for the freedom and prosperity we call the American way of life.

Memorial Day was originally known as Decoration Day. It came into being after the Civil War as a day set aside to honor the Union war dead, but actually Southern ladies organizations and school children had decorated the graves of the Confederate dead even as the civil war was going on.

Charlie Daniels Column: Better Off?

By Charlie Daniels | May 18, 2012 | 14:58

A  A

When you look at a presidential candidate you are faced with the sobering fact that if elected they will be the most powerful person on earth for the next four years, having power over not only weapons of mass destruction, but the economy, foreign policy, social and civil rights issues and the quality of your life.

New candidates have to run on a limited record of public service, their character, their personality and believability. If the person is an incumbent, that person should stand on past achievements and the accomplishments or lack thereof in the last four years.

Michele Bachmann Latest Example of How the Left Doesn't Take Women Seriously

By Charlie Daniels | July 19, 2011 | 13:18

A  A

The fact that the American left is deathly afraid of Sarah Palin and Michele Bachmann can be interpreted in several different ways.

First of all, if both ladies are as big of fools and bumblers as they claim, why are they wasting so much time and energy trying to destroy them? If they were the idiots the self-proclaimed elitists in the mainstream media would have us believe, they'd simply fall under their own weight without any help from the insulated dodos at the New York Times.

Oil Reserves

By Charlie Daniels | July 05, 2011 | 14:34

A  A

Speaking just for myself, I think that President Obama tapping into America's strategic oil reserve was an extremely unwise and dangerous move.

They can say that he didn't do it for political purposes, but until the cows come home and set up housekeeping, I still won't believe it.

Sea Sick

By Charlie Daniels | June 20, 2011 | 13:34

A  A

I am so sick and tired of people defending Barack Obama and the disastrous policies of the two years the Democrats had control of both houses of Congress. If anybody ever had a reverse Midas touch, it is this president. Everything he touches turns to debt.

I sincerely want anybody who wants to defend Obama to respond to this column, but I don't want to have even one response that mentions George W. Bush's name. The time for blaming America's problems on anybody else but Obama has long past.

Let the Word Go Forth

By Charlie Daniels | May 06, 2011 | 13:56

A  A

In the words of that great American philosopher, Larry The Cable Guy, “WE GOT-R-DONE”!!!

Osama bin Laden sleeps with the fishes, and the best military on the planet has kept a promise President George W. Bush made to the American people almost a decade ago. He said, “I don’t know if it will be tomorrow, or next month, or next year, but we will get him.”

Mission accomplished.

The President's Tax Fallacy

By Charlie Daniels | April 16, 2011 | 14:19

A  A

President Obama is convinced that the only way the federal government can survive is to raise taxes and we're fixing to get an ear full of the old Democrat mantra decrying "tax cuts for the rich".

Now you may be thinking, "Why do I care if those rich people get their taxes raised? It won't affect me."

How Long?

By Charlie Daniels | April 04, 2011 | 12:57

I keep wondering how long Its going to take the United States Of America to wake up to the fact that there is a rank, naive, incapable, idealistic novice at the wheel of the ship of state and that ship is steaming toward the rocks at 100 knots.

Remind Me Why, Mr. President

By Charlie Daniels | April 01, 2011 | 14:02

A  A

The other night I watched President Barack Obama make what I considered to be a very lame, uninformative, petulant and hypocritical speech concerning our recent incursion into Libya.

Lame because his reasons for going into Libya, in my humble opinion, were not valid.

Japan Will Be Back

By Charlie Daniels | March 18, 2011 | 10:08

In my lifetime I can’t remember an earthquake that caused as much damage as the recent one in Japan. The earthquake alone would have been devastating but it was exponentially exacerbated by a tsunami that looked like a scene straight out of an “end of the world” science fiction movie.

I’ve been a sports fan all my life. Of course being raised in the Southeast we took our college football very much to heart and it would be hard to be raised in North Carolina as I was and not be Dixie proud of the legendary brand of basketball that’s played in the Atlantic Coast Conference.

'From the Halls of Montezuma to the Shores of Tripoli'

By Charlie Daniels | March 04, 2011 | 11:50

A  A

I know that all of you recognize the first line of the Marine Corps (pronounced “core,” Mr. President) Hymn. But did you ever wonder what the shores of Tripoli had to do with it?

Actually, it has quite a lot.

A few centuries ago there was a band of cutthroats operating in that part of the world who became known collectively as the Barbary Pirates, the Barbary Corsairs or the Ottoman Corsairs. They were based primarily in Tunisia, Algiers and Tripoli and operated mainly in the Mediterranean along Africa’s Atlantic coast and even South America.

Can We Drill Now, Mr. President?

By Charlie Daniels | February 15, 2011 | 13:19

A  A

I am not a sage, a soothsayer or even a wise man but it has been as obvious as the nose on my face, every since this upheaval in Egypt started that the country is going to end up in radical Islamic hands.

It may be less obvious, but never the less inevitable, that the rest of the Middle Eastern Muslim countries are going to follow suit sooner or later.

Ominous Omens in the Middle East

By Charlie Daniels | February 06, 2011 | 11:30

A  A

The situation that is unfolding in Egypt and the Middle East has such a potential of changing everyday, that anything I write about the current situation could well be yesterday’s news by the time you read it.

I don’t think that a lot of us understand the ominous volatility of what’s going on and unfortunately that reaches into the highest levels of politics in this nation.

Tunisia was the first pot to boil over with Egypt coming shortly thereafter and Jordan showing signs of following suit.

Here It Comes: In Shooting's Wake, Media Gear Up to Slime Conservatives

By Charlie Daniels | January 10, 2011 | 14:29

A  A

The recent shootings in Tucson, Arizona were absolutely horrible. Because of the actions of one demented misfit, there is terrible suffering, society has been deprived of productive citizens and families will never be the same.

Jared Loughner was a volatile powder keg that was bound to explode, but the sad fact of the matter is that although there were many people who viewed him as dangerous, nobody could do anything about it.

The bare facts alone are tragic and sordid enough but I noticed that something is creeping into the reporting of the incident. Some of the more left-leaning media would like us to believe that this demented young man went on his murderous spree because he belonged to some fringe far-right organization or had sympathies toward the Tea Party’s political agenda.

The Unholy Hatred of the Westboro Baptist Church

By Charlie Daniels | December 14, 2010 | 18:26

A  A

I remember the first time I ever saw any of the Westboro Baptist Church. It was many years ago and I can't remember where it was but I saw a bunch of people at a distance holding up day glow colored signs that said, "GOD HATES FAGS" and "THANK GOD FOR DEAD SOLDIERS."

When you travel as much as I do, you see some pretty strange sights and tend to catalogue such things as the antics of a bunch of local kooks out to grab some headlines.

An Open Letter to President Obama

By Charlie Daniels | September 24, 2010 | 14:12

A  A

Mr. President,

I write this letter as a patriot, a taxpayer, a lifelong resident and as concerned citizen of what I consider to be the greatest nation ever known to man, the United States of America.

I am Caucasian, so let's get the racial aspect out of the way to start with.  This letter has nothing to do with your race. I lived through the cruelty of Jim Crow and segregation and learned early on in my life that the color of my skin does not make me better or worse than any other man.

We all remember Martin Luther King, Jr.'s statement about judging people, not by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character, and I believe that with all my heart.

I believe that America is an exceptional country.  We have been liberator, benefactor and leader of the free world for centuries.  America is an example of what can be achieved by free people living under the free enterprise system.
