About Me

Profile
I'm a small-government conservative, weary of attacks on our liberties and pocketbooks by big government - from both parties - and the eternal squabbling over who gets to control the pork spigots for the benefit of favored interests. Big government promotes itself by preventing private action by and deals between people with differing preferences, and besides diminishing our liberty and sense of self-responsibility and initative, locks us into unending political battles to get the government to do what WE want (as opposed to those EVIL people who disagree with us!). Only liberals believe in nation-building, and a military that is everywhere is a recipe for fat defense budgets and blowback - two sides of the same coin. Let us never forget that it was anger at the abuse of an arrogant government that drove our Founding Fathers to declare the independence of the colonies - and to try to forge a "more perfect union" by limiting the power of a central "federal" government by ensuring that the states and citizens retained ultimate authority and the powers of Congress, the courts and the chief executive were all circumscribed. Okay, I care about the environment. But which one of you doesn`t also? In general, my favored approach is a decentralized one based on the protection of private property rights, and away from heavy federal regulation, which is inefficient and plays to special interests. But global problems require the involvement of Western governments, to make sure that there are clear property rights to begin with, and international means to enforce them.
