Which Democrat running for president is this?

By bschear | February 3, 2008 - 23:58 ET

This candidate was instrumental in blocking conservative
judges nominated by President Bush.

This candidate supported amnesty for millions of
illegal immigrants and implies people that don’t support his views are anti
immigrant or want to ignore the problem.

The candidate supported campaign finance reform
which severely limits free speech before elections.

The candidate wants to close Guantanamo Bay
and stop “torture” of terrorists for information to prevent future terrorist
attacks.

This candidate opposed President Bush’s tax cuts.

Here is a quote from the candidate on abortion.
“certainly in the short term, or even the long term,
I would not support repeal of Roe v. Wade, which would then force X number of
women in America to [undergo] illegal and dangerous operations.”

By NB Staff | February 3, 2008 - 23:17 ET

So long perfect season, Pats!

Bigger than the Jets beating the Colts?

How do you rate this game compared to other Super Bowls?

What say you, sports fans?

Huckabee Tackles Romney for Team McCain

By Mark Finkelstein | February 3, 2008 - 17:43 ET

On this Super Sunday, it's fitting I suppose that Mike Huckabee would be out there blocking and tackling for Team McCain. Appearing on this morning's Today show, the former Arkansas governor made a pro forma claim that he's still running for president and not the veep slot. But Huckabee certainly seemed to be acting as what Mark Steyn described in a recent Hugh Hewitt interview as McCain's "wing man."

Consider Huckabee's reply to a question from Sunday co-host Jenna Wolfe [a resident, coincidentally, of Chappaqua, NY, home to Bill and Hillary.]

Writers' Strike Ending?

By Matthew Sheffield | February 3, 2008 - 16:05 ET

Will the Writers Guild of America strike end soon? Possibly:

Informal talks between representatives of Hollywood’s striking writers and production companies have eliminated the major roadblocks to a new contract, which could lead to a tentative agreement as early as next week, according to people who were briefed on the situation but requested anonymity because they were not authorized to speak.

A deal would end a crippling writers strike that is now entering its fourth month.

The agreement may come without renewed formal negotiations between the television and movie writers and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers, though both sides still need to agree on specific language of key provisions.

Meet the press this morning and Hillary.

By dronetek | February 3, 2008 - 12:02 ET

If you watched this morning, you saw what was either a mummy or James
Carville defend Hillary on her Iraq
stance. He was able to claim Hillary based her vote on Bush's "lies” and
get no argument from anyone on the panel. Later in the show, Reassert says
"here at meet the press, we like to examine history". It’s funny
because a simple review of Hillary's history would show her Iraq vote was in fact based on "her
previous experience in the Clinton
administration".

A simple search of youtube bears this out:

http://youtube.com/w...

These are her own words, so I'm struck by the lack of argument when he campaign
makes such claims. What’s more is that this particular video also shows her
saying, "she doesn’t believe saddam can be disarmed without the us
military". Making her claim that she thought it was a vote to do more
diplomacy complete rubish.

Is the MSM really so inept that they can’t search Google or youtube, or do
they just not care?

For general discussion and debate. Possible talking point: some interesting new polls:

Does Romney have to win New York or California on Tuesday to stay in the race? Can Obama run the table and really put pressure on the Clintons?

ABC's Muir Asks Obama About Liberal Positions, 'More Left Than Clinton'

By Brad Wilmouth | February 3, 2008 - 10:15 ET

ABC anchor David Muir asked Barack Obama about some of his liberal positions in a pre-recorded interview, which was shown on World News Saturday, in which Muir asked about the Democratic Senator's support for drivers licenses for illegal immigrants, and about being endorsed by "liberal legend" Ted Kennedy and MoveOn.org. The ABC anchor also brought up the New York Times' evaluation of Obama's economic policies as being "more left than the Clinton administration's." Muir: "Does that offer red meat for the Republicans, that you could possibly be more left than Hillary Clinton?" (Transcript follows)

NYT Practices a Little NARAL Camouflage

By Tim Graham | February 3, 2008 - 08:39 ET

In Friday's New York Times, reporter Susan Dominus describes division in the feminist movement over who to support in the Democratic presidential primaries. Dominus describes two types: the hip, young, flirty feminist who's uncommitted, exemplified by Jessica Valenti, the founder of the blog Feministing (the one with headlines like "What's your butt's ethnicity?"); and the dour, old-school feminist who says support Hillary or you're sexist, exemplified by Marcia Pappas, the president of the New York chapter of NOW.

It's an interesting piece, written with obvious sympathy for feminism, and the newspaper's sympathy extends to covering up Jessica Valenti's other blog venture: she's paid by NARAL Pro-Choice America to run its "Bush v. Choice" blog (see that "About Jessica" link?). The closest the Times comes to exploring what pays Valenti's bills is this sentence:

Dowd: Clinton Camp Claims Obama Went Lazio on Hillary

By Mark Finkelstein | February 3, 2008 - 08:33 ET

As its Hollywood-borrowed headline There Will Be Blood suggests, the gist of Maureen Dowd's column today is that appearances of that icky post-debate clinch notwithstanding, there is no love lost between Hillary and Obama. The junior senator from Illinois won't agree to run as Hillary's vice-presidential candidate. Or as Maureen metaphorically puts it:

Why would Obama want to follow in the frustrated footsteps of Al Gore . . . being third banana to Billary?

Along the way, Dowd appears to break some news of a confrontation between the two that one camp views as having been physical . . .

Bozell on 'Family Guy' Creator's 'Hitler' Hate Mail

By Tim Graham | February 3, 2008 - 08:08 ET

No one ever said the maker of "Family Guy" was a classy guy. Seth MacFarlane recently profaned Carnegie Hall, as TV Squad reported: "On a night when Seth MacFarlane's mother is willing to come onstage and in exchange for her son paying off one of her credit cards, she'll say, 'Suck my dick, Carnegie Hall,' you know anything is possible."

I only bring this up because MacFarlane's offered the same profane invitation to our sister organization the Parents Television Council, as well as equating them with Hitler. In his culture column this week, Brent Bozell ponders that, and MacFarlane's hateful leftist politics, including suggesting on his little cartoon that Christian conservatives hate "brown people." Give it a look:

Will MSM Ignore Rap Song Promoting Maturity, Responsibility?

By Warner Todd Huston | February 3, 2008 - 01:07 ET

Will this rap song with a positive message get any play in the MSM? Will a rapper that is telling kids to quit acting like a punk and grow up resonate?

Okay, I'm a nearly 50 year-old white dude, so you won't catch me trying to be "all that" with the kid's rap music. In fact, I hate the stuff. [I was listening to Beethoven, Glenn Miller, U2 and The Police today, if that helps pinpoint me] HOWEVER... and this is a big one, too... I am compelled to pass on the latest tune from Mr. Bomani D. Armah, the self-proclaimed "not a rapper" rapper.

You may recall the last time Mr. Armah appeared on Newsbusters? He wrote a tune that appeared on BET TV called "Read a Mo F***ing Book". It was a tune that featured Mr. Armah seeming to attack the thug lifestyle and telling black kids to read a "Mo F'ing" book, brush their teeth, wear deodorant and to raise their own children, etc. It raised quite a stir last year.
