ArchivesWashPost Ombud Shames 'Opus' Censors: Even CAIR Wasn't OffendedIn Sunday's Washington Post, ombudsman Deborah Howell laid out the internal deliberations behind the Post's decision to shelve two "Opus" Sunday comic strips mocking the character Lola Granola's flirtation with radical Islam. Howell concluded: "I think Post editors overreacted in killing the strips. Comics are meant to be artful, fun and provocative. The two strips were all of that and worth publishing. Let comics be comics." Worse yet for the Post pluckers, Howell found that the Council for Islamic-American Relations (CAIR) didn't favor the censorship. CAIR's Ibraham Hooper said the strip "poked fun at the strip's characters, not Muslims or Islam. I see hundreds worse on the Internet every day." And: Weekend Captionfest II

(AP Photo/Charles Dharapak)NBC’s Andrea Mitchell: Hsu Scandal Makes Bill Clinton a Drag on Hillary’s Campaign
Since the Norman Hsu campaign finance scandal first broke weeks ago, conservatives have wondered when liberal media members will get concerned about how this might impact the presidential aspirations of Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-NY). If Sunday's "The Chris Matthews Show" is a barometer, the news is not good for Hillary supporters. As The Anchoress accurately reported Saturday, NBC's Andrea Mitchell made a statement concerning the Clintons that was absolutely shocking: CNN’s Howard Kurtz Supports Bush Speaking With Milbloggers
A truly extraordinary event occurred on CNN Sunday: Howard Kurtz actually supported President Bush sitting down with milbloggers to discuss what's going on in Iraq. I kid you not. When this issue was raised on the most recent installment of "Reliable Sources" - that Bush had a meeting Friday attended by ten military bloggers - it seemed almost a metaphysical certitude the President would be lambasted for catering to the extreme right. Surprisingly, such was not the case: Vietnam War Memorial Defaced a Week Ago; Park Service Reluctant to Tab as VandalismThis was first reported at FreeRepublic on Sunday, September 9 at 6:55 PM Pacific Time (3:55 PM Eastern), with follow-up posts here, here, and here. The incident took place on or some time prior to Friday, September 7. The original Freeper report, with plentiful pictures, states that:
Frank Rich Paints Petraeus as Coward
The gravest charge you can level at a military man, as MoveOn.org essentially did to Gen. Petraeus with its infamous "General Betray Us" ad, is to call him a traitor. But close behind in the catalog of calumny is to call a soldier a coward. And that's effectively what Frank Rich did in his [p.p.v.] New York Times column of today. Writes Rich [emphasis added]:
'History' Teacher Asks 14-Year-Olds to Renounce U.S. Citizenship
One often hears that government schools in totalitarian nations brainwash their children to love the government. People in free nations decry that as oppressing the free will of innocent children, and rightly so. In American schools, however, just the opposite is true as with the case of an anti-American teacher in a public school in Chico, California who hates this country so much that he sent a letter home to his student's parents urging them to renounce their citizenship in the U.S. as he announced he was so doing. Netrooter Berates Elizabeth Edwards for Criticizing MoveOn Ad
Though most of the Democrat presidential candidates have distanced themselves from this disgrace, John Edwards' wife Elizabeth made some remarks in Iowa Friday that have drawn the ire of leading netroots member Jane Hamsher of Firedoglake (h/t Protein Wisdom). For those that have forgotten, Hamsher rose in infamy to national prominence last August when she posted a picture of Sen. Joe Lieberman in blackface. This time, Hamsher was irked by the following remarks made by Edwards as reported by the Des Moines Register (emphasis added): McCain Says 'MoveOn.org Ought to be Thrown Out of This Country’
Thursday night, Sen. John McCain (R-Arizona) voiced one of the sharpes rebukes of the far-left organization since the ad was first published. Speaking in front of a group in Hudson, New Hampshire, while holding a blown-up copy of the ad, McCain said (video available here, h/t Gateway Pundit): |
