ArchivesCBS Trumpets 'New Opposition' to Iraq War, But It's Not New: Just Plug for 60 Minutes
Logan previewed her 60 Minutes story about a relatively minuscule number of servicemen who have signed a petition from an organization called “Appeal for Redress,” a group formed last year and which delivered some petitions to Congress way back on January 16. Logan announced how “over a thousand servicemen and women have done something normally unthinkable for the military: protest the war they're in the middle of fighting....They've all sent a petition called 'Appeal for Redress' to their individual members of Congress letting them know that 'staying in Iraq will not work,' and it's 'time for U.S. troops to come home.'" Logan's piece featured soundbites from three soldiers, but none were identified by her or on screen. The CBSNews.com page previewing the story, however, includes names. Hybrids Not So Hot After Fuel-Economy ChangesThe media adore hybrid automobiles for the gas mileage and the green factor, but changes in fuel-economy beginning in 2008 will hit hybrids hard.

Citing Michael Moore, "The View's" Behar Again Calls for Politicized Oscars
Token non-liberal Elisabeth Hasselbeck predictably disagreed, but even guest co-host Sherri Shephard felt uncomfortable with political speeches stating, "I don’t want to hear that at the Oscars. I want them to accept the award." Behar felt that would be "boring." The exchange is below. Hardball Contrast: Clintons = 'Good Leakers,' Dick Cheney = 'Ruthless'
First up Hardball host, Chris Matthews, asked Williams for his take on Hillary Clinton's rapid defense in her David Geffen-fueled spat with Barack Obama. Williams, seemed to admire the Clinton machine's prowess in both past and current crises, as he admitted: "They were pros politically. They were good leakers. They were good attackers, and they were good defenders. Hillary Rodham Clinton has some pros working for her. We've had some experience with them, all of us in this business have." As reported by CNSNews Thursday:
Here are some of the specifics: Let's Go, NLhttp://www.youtube.c... Now, deny that there is an idea for a North American Union again, and call me a conspiracy theorist again, and call all the people mentioned in the provided links liars again. I'm keeping count so I can remind you of it over and over again when you finally buck up and admit that it's true. Global Warming Skepticism Bites Another State Climatologist
After Oregon’s state climatologist received the bad news in early February, Delaware’s governor had similar sentiments as reported by The Daily Times (emphasis mine throughout):
In this instance, the governor in question was concerned about the state climatologist’s work when he wasn’t representing her state. However, it suggests that Minner’s views have been impacted by all the recent focus on this issue by the media: Two Days Before Oscar: ABC Quizzes Cheney about Gore FilmThere’s little secret about the media desire to see Al Gore win an Oscar Sunday. Over at ABC, they’ve given up any pretense of neutrality. Just two days before the awards, reporter Jonathan Karl quizzed Vice President Dick Cheney about the film. In an “exclusive interview” that will likely be broadcast during regular newscasts, Karl asked Cheney about global warming, by beginning with Gore. “Did you get a chance to see Al Gore's movie?” asked Karl. That was just part of Karl’s timely interview. According to the ABC.com piece on it, Cheney’s view that there is a debate about whether mankind causes warming or not is “a position that puts the administration at odds with the vast majority of climate scientists.” NYTimes: Rudy Gets 'Softballs'... But What About Hillary?
It is curious to me why anyone would expect a candidate to open themselves up to any venues that would present "hostility" this many months away from the elections? Global Warming Alarmists Can Offset Their Cats' Flatulence
Think I’m kidding? As reported Thursday by Bloomberg (emphasis mine throughout):
To put this in some perspective, a NewsBusters article on Wednesday made the point that all this global warming alarmism is about money. Folks, you have no idea: Canadian Newspaper Asks ‘Is Al Gore Bad For Your Mental Health?’
An article in Thursday’s Toronto Star deliciously began (emphasis mine throughout): “Is Al Gore bad for your mental health?” I’m sure that question is a simple one for most conservatives. However, this issue appears more complex – and hysterical – for Canadians:
That's only the beginning, folks. This gets much better: The NewsBusters Weekly Recap: February 17 to 23
Fellow NBC alum Chris Matthews, perhaps offering an explanation for the media’s fawning over Barack Obama, explained that the Illinois Senator appeals to the "young at heart." This week, CNN provided yet another example as to why "fair and balanced" wouldn’t be a good promotional phrase for them. Correspondent Bill Schneider asserted that African Americans don’t vote for the GOP because of a "perception of racism."
Jack Bauer, Torturer
"24" is just a TV show. But in her Los Angeles Times column of today, America Tortures (yawn), Rosa Brooks cites the actions of the show's characters -- and the American public's reaction to them -- as evidence of the way in which we have become inured to U.S. government-sponsored torture. In doing so, Brooks unwittingly raises another, more interesting issue.Writes Rosa: "If you need any more evidence that the American public has gotten blasé about torture, consider the hit Fox action drama '24.' The show featured 67 torture scenes during its first five seasons, and most of those depicted torture being used by 'heroic' U.S. counter-terror agents." Note Brooks' placement of scare quotes around "heroic." For the enlightened folks of the liberal media elite, Jack Bauer is no hero -- he is best viewed as a torturer. But Brooks leaves an important question unanswered. 30 Rock: Tucker Carlson Is 'Super, Super Hot'As Newsbusters noted, MSNBC’s Chris Matthews and Tucker Carlson made an appearance on NBC’s 30 Rock Thursday night. The episode partially revolved around Jane Krakowski’s character, Jenna Maroney, mistakenly insulting the troops while posing for Maxim. Because the photographer had the music cranked up, Jenna mistook a reporter asking about the “beleaguered troops” for “theater troupes” and hilarity ensued. She then began a diatribe against that scourge of humanity and junior college drama programs everywhere—theater troupes, but the interviewer applied everything she said to our “beleaguered” troops.
'Code Pink' Ambushes Congressman Vern Buchanan...‘Code Pink’ With Help From The Manatee County Democratic Party Ambushes Congressman Vern Buchanan At Radio Station… BRADENTON, FL. (NS) – Well, the ‘boo hoo’ crowd that still hasn’t gotten over the loss of Christine Jennings to now Congressman Vern Buchanan, managed to launch a Mini-Protest at local Radio Station 1490 WWPR located at 5910 Cortez Road West in Bradenton… What the '6 or so' Protestors wanted was to have Congressman Buchanan sign their Pledge and come out in favor of their position of bring the Troops home now and stop funding the War in Iraq… This Reporter saw '2' pink shirts and with the help of Manatee County Democratic Party Vice Chairman Mitch Mallett, a ‘scramble’ was made inside Manatee County Democratic Headquarters by telephone to get as many Anti-War Protestors to show up with their signs and assemble with the ‘Code Pink’ Ladies when they confronted the FL-13 Congressman after completing an interview on “The Captain’s AMERICA” radio show… ABC Anchor Blogs: Why Is Hollywood So Liberal? It's interesting how some network TV reporter blogs show more interest in examining liberals than the network news product does. In his Media Reality Check yesterday, Rich Noyes reported that the networks have yet to touch the controversy over the anti-religious bloggers John Edwards hired for his presidential campaign website, and yet ABC Nightline anchor Terry Moran really got the ball rolling in the blogosphere on the story when he asked if a Republican would be ignored with smash-mouth bloggers like that. Moran's blog now features a post on the liberalism of Hollywood. Moran says what Jake Tapper didn't quite say in his report on the political importance of Tinseltown...as a Democratic power center: "Hollywood money is a crucial factor for any Democrat who seriously wants to be president. You simply cannot get the presidential nomination of the Democratic Party--and you cannot win the White House as a Democrat--without the money-raising muscle of Hollywood." Do the top producers snip lines like this, lines of simple common sense? Taxpayer-Funded Radio: Tax Cuts Hurt the ChildrenMy colleague Paul Detrick regularly monitors public radio and when doing so today he caught this gem from American Public Media's (APM) Marxist Place, er, "Marketplace" program.
Turns out APM didn't tell listeners about the political donations of the study's liberal author, nor turn to conservative health care experts for criticism or to offer market-oriented solutions to covering more children with health insurance. |
