Hillary on Stilts

It's been a rough day for Hillary. First, as noted here, she was drummed from pillar to post on ABC's "This Week." NewsBuster Noel Sheppard then detailed here how Chris Matthews' crew raked her over the coals. Now, completing Hillary's troika of tribulation, the CBS Evening News has gotten into the act.

The development being reported was ostensibly positive for Hillary: the Des Moines Register today endorsed her. If CBS had stopped there, it would have been a plus for the Clinton campaign. But unfortunately for Hillary . . . the Evening News decided to play clips of Clinton on the stump in Iowa.

Newspapers Continue Not to Label Democrats Caught In Scandal

A close adviser and chief fundraiser to Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich was indicted on fraud charges. Yet if you read about the story in the Chicago Tribune, you won't read which party the governor belongs to. That's right. Blagojevich is a Democrat, yet the Trib didn't bother to include this fact in their piece.

Meanwhile, Bryan over at Hot Air showed how the Kansas City Star reported the resignation of Kansas's attorney general following a sex scandal. The original article completely omitted Paul Morrison's Democrat affiliation. Only after a phone call to the writer of the article did the Star amend the article by adding the word "Democrat" to the fourth paragraph.

LAT Fails To Identify Public Activism of Letter Writers

Fervent liberalism is not the only thing that's predictable at the Los Angeles Times. You can bet that when the Times publishes a news article on the Church abuse scandal, rabid letters to the editor that bash the Church will follow a few days later.

Such was the case in yesterday's paper (Sat. 12/15/07). Yet the Times also failed to identify that both letter writers critical of the Church have established records of public involvement and activism in the abuse scandal narrative.

One letter was from a man named Udo Strutynski, who in his letter blasted "the conduct of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles." However, the Times completely failed to note that Strutynski is a lawyer who, according to the Times' own reporting in 2006, has filed cases against the Los Angeles Archdiocese and the Jesuit order (source).

Giving money for guns in Washington

I just saw a story on CNN that the Washington D.C. police are giving people money for turning in their firearms, "no questions asked." Haha lol...like they can even ask questions anyway..wtf.

Is this even legal? I mean, where are they getting the money they are just "giving" to people. Don't the police get their revenue from tax dollars? I would sue them for giving someone my tax dollars for a stupid reason.

Any thoughts? (I'm sure i'm preaching to the choir, but..)

Matthews Panel Hates Hillary, Hearts Huckabee

As NewsBuster Mark Finkelstein reported, Sunday's "This Week" wasn't a good omen for Hillary Clinton or her supporters.

Fortunately, for those of us that enjoy Hillary bashing as much as a Gershwin tune (how 'bout you?), dessert was served on "The Chris Matthews Show" as panelists including Dan Rather, Norah O'Donnell, Katty Kay, and Andrew Sullivan gave conservatives an early Clinton kicking Christmas present to savor.

Is this still payback for Bill and Hillary chastising Tim Russert for his behavior during October's debate in Philadelphia? Maybe more important, have press members decided that if they continue to pile on the supposedly inevitable one, the Democrats' only chance in 2008 is if Mike Huckabee is the Republican nominee?

Before we get there, here are some marvelous examples of Hillary bashing from seemingly unlikely sources to brighten your day:

Bye, Bye Free Europe. Hello EUrabia.

The following are quotes from "The Stanford Review" online edition in an article entitled "The Future of Europe" by Jonathan Gelbert.  I will provide a link following a few excerpts so you can read it in its entirety if you like. (All bolded emphasis mine.)

"...an ICM opinion poll in 2006 revealed that nearly 40% of British Muslims support Islamic sharia law replacing current British law, and 20% have some sympathy for the suicide bombers who attacked London on July 7, 2005."

"... Bouyeri named Dutch parliament member Ayaan Hirsi Ali, an outspoken critic of radical Islam, as his next target, causing Hirsi Ali to flee to the United States, where she remains today. The leader of the Dutch Party for Freedom, Geert Wilders, has received numerous death threats for his anti-immigrant and anti-Muslim comments and now lives under twenty-four-hour police protection."

Winning the "War on Drugs?"

The government bans a substance. It's considered "immoral," "dangerous," and "destructive." But it's in high demand among the people. So, "alternate" suppliers fill the demand. They are wildly successful, even though charging much more than the substance cost as a legal commodity. Profits skyrocket, and they use this money to build private "armies" of thieves, thugs and murderers. To protect their "turf," assassination becomes a well-used tool. What were once petty neighborhood thieves become well-financed criminal "kingpins," casually killing their competitors to secure their profits.

Woeful 'This Week' For Hillary: 'Clinton Team Demoralized'

Worst job in America this morning: Clinton campaign staffer assigned to inform Hillary of her treatment at the hands of ABC's "This Week" panel.

From moderator George Stephanopoulos to former Gore campaign manager Donna Brazile, to the husband-wife tandem of Jay Carney of Time and Claire Shipman of ABC, to conservative sage George Will, it was a decidedly downbeat take on Hillary's fortunes.

Inconvenient Truths from Bali Climate Meeting US Media Must Ignore

For many months, NewsBusters has informed readers that when it comes to current events involving global warming, if you have any interest in learning the facts, or at least a close approximation of them, you must rely upon foreign press outlets.

What transpired on Saturday is a perfect example of this maxim: after the United States got virtually everything it wanted from the United Nations climate change conference in Bali, it gave in to a relatively minor demand from delegates of developing countries.

Ignoring the facts, America's press badly misrepresented the event as a major capitulation by the Bush administration, and a huge victory for global warming alarmists.

Yet, a number of articles published across the Pond Sunday expressed a view of these proceedings U.S. media dare not share. Take for example this Sunday Times article entitled "Bali Deal Leaves Greens In Despair" (emphasis added throughout, h/t Benny Peiser):

Bolton Bashes Gore's Bali Buffoonery

As NewsBusters reported, Nobel Laureate Al Gore made a fool out of himself at the United Nations climate change meeting in Bali Thursday by chastising America for having the exact same global warming policy the Clinton administration had when he was vice president in 1997.

Marvelously, former U.N. ambassador John Bolton was on Fox News the following day speaking inconvenient truths about the Global Warmingist-in-Chief that sycophantic media members disgracefully refuse to share with the citizenry.

With that in mind, get your popcorn ready, kick your feet up, and listen to the facts about this issue spoken in a fashion that press members eschew for the sake of their own politics and advocacy (video available here):

Open Thread

For general discussion and debate. Possible talking point: David Letterman Seeks Deal With Writers' Union.

Does the position that Letterman and Leno are in make anyone chuckle? After all, these guys are comedians, right? The scripted part of their programs is a three minute monologue, and a couple of "skits". For the money they're both paid, couldn't they write this stuff for themselves, albeit potentially in a briefer fashion, and still have guests on to yack about their lives and naughty bits?

I know, this might look anti-labor, and they should be standing with their writers. But, would Johnny Carson have cancelled his show for this long because of a writers' strike?

Bush's 'Wins May Cost Him' -- News or Wishful Thinking?

The top headline in Saturday's Washington Post underlines the tendency for displaying bias by practicing future-tense journalism. "Bush's Budget Wins May Cost Him" is the headline on Jonathan Weisman's report. Inside, the headline is similar in tone: "President Could Pay a Price for Victories Over Democrats." He may -- or he may not. He could -- or he could not. But it's hard to escape the notion that the Post thinks he should. Or perhaps the Post is afraid that a series of wins by Bush may make him look powerful and boost his approval rating, and they want to keep following his image around with their own cherished personal collection of dark clouds of text.

Why can't the newspapers simply report what has already happened, and not bog down the reader with their own biased impressions of what could or should happen next? Why must reporters always get out a crystal ball and wear a silly fortune-teller's hat? Weisman's soothsayer story began this way:

Rich: Co-Panelists 'Pushed' O'Donnell Into Anti-Mormon Rant

The devil made Larry do it.

Don't blame Lawrence O'Donnell for his ugly anti-Mormon rant. It was really the fault of O'Donnell's fellow panelists. That's Frank Rich's take on the unseemly episode on the McLaughlin Group a couple Fridays ago.In his NY Times column of today, Rich claims that O'Donnell was:

pushed over the edge by his peers’ polite chatter about Mitt Romney’s sermon on “Faith in America.” [Emphasis added.]

Questions:

What is a fake religion?

Well, the NB bigot thread got shut down with some questions being answered, and some not being answered.

I respect WTH for owning up to his comments. That takes a pair that many today don't have, or at least will not display publicly.

However, his comment at Hotair was:

You don’t have to be as deranged as Larry here to know a truth!
Mormonism IS nothing but a fake religion created by a con man. Not that
Larry was right about everything he said, but he’s right that a con man
crated a fake religion out of his rear-end, for sure. There is nothing
“bigoted” about speak that truth.

Since religion is based on theology I would like to know what religions Mr. Huston considers real, and not fake.

Also, in the comment and in the NB bigot thread WTH didn't link to anything that stated J. Smith as a con man, I would like a link to it.

As an athiest, I have no god in this fight. If J. Smith was a con man I would like some proof.

I am begging, please, please educate me.

ATT vs. Verizon WIFI

NBers,

My non-NB business suddenly necessitates me getting a WIFI card and wireless Internet service for use outside my home and office. In my area, the choices are ATT and Verizon.

Any recommendations? Anybody using one of these?
