ArchivesTime: Sunday School for AtheistsWill Time magazine come and cover MY Sunday school class? You know, the one where I teach my kids that their Christian faith is under attack on a weekly, if not daily, basis from the mainstream media? I think its a valid question because Time just did a lovely send-up to a Sunday School for ..... atheists. Yep. Seems the atheists, or rather humanists, in Palo Alto, California think believers have something going on with the whole Sunday School thing. Time's reporter Jeninne Lee-St. John promotes the atheist program, atheist summer camps and a new Carl Sagan-named Humanist public charter school in her Nov. 21 story. The fact that the piece was put up on Time.com on the eve before Thanksgiving, when millions of Americans gathered to give thanks to God, is delectable irony. The bias started in the first paragraph: Keith Olbermann Gets a Geography LessonLeft-wing NBC éminence fou Keith Olbermann is well-known for playing fast and loose with the facts when it comes to politics. Apparently he is ignorant of American geography as well. On yesterday's "Sunday Night Football," the Ed-Murrow-wannabe, who is fond of pointing out the slightest error on the part of Republicans as proof of their "stupidity," incorrectly told viewers that Colorado's capital, Denver, is west of the Rocky Mountains. I have to agree with Bryan Preston, this incident is just the latest example of how Olbermann is a pale imitation of Dennis Miller.Matthews: 'I Don't See a Whole Lot of Heart' From Rudy or Romney
That was the upshot of Chris Matthews's observation today about two Republican front-runners. View video here. Financial Times US Managing Editor Chrystia Freeland has become a "Hardball" regular of late.
TSA To Rummage Through Emotional Baggage As WellOn an episode of South Park taking aim at the airline industry, Mr. Garrison (still a man at that point) invented a mode of transportation where riders had to have a metal prod inserted into their backsides in order to avoid falling off the vehicle. The response of those enduring such discomfort and humiliation was that it was still less than what passengers had to endure at the airport. While the bit might have been a bit over the top in terms of propriety, it was pretty much on target in terms of how most Americans feel regarding the bureaucratic procedures implemented in the name of “transportation security” since September 11th. As fairly good natured people content with the social order even if they don’t like the way the process is handled, most Americans deciding to utilize this form of transportation simply keep their comments to themselves and bear with the frustration. However, according to a McClatchy newspapers article titled “New Airport Check For Danger In Fliers’ Facial Expressions“, it may no longer be enough to stoically endure these indignations but one must also have a smile on one’s face about it. CBS Early Show Touts UN Labeling of Tasers as 'Torture'
At the beginning of the segment reporter Joie Chen described how a video of a recent taser incident in Canada, "led Taser International to slam 'sensationalistic media reports.'" Of course, Chen quickly went on to continue her own "sensationalistic" reporting on the issue. She concluded by blaming trigger-happy police officers for the recent deaths as she raised "the questions about whether taser carrying officers have become too quick on the draw."
Libel TerrorismSupporters of Islamic totalitarianism are using courts to silence their critics and advance their agendas as the American mainstream media barely take notice. Take the case of Sheikh Khalid bin Mahfouz, the billionaire alleged funder of terrorism, and his dogged critic, Dr. Rachel Ehrenfeld. Their story has been chronicled here by the Moving Picture Institute. (Newsbusters' Pam Meister wrote about the sheikh's virtual book burning activities this summer. The sheikh defends himself at his own website.) Matthews: 'Liberal Media' Going Soft on 'Crazy' Huckabee
It's interesting to note that it wasn't Huckabee's position on taxes or immigration, which have been attacked as liberal by other conservatives, that Matthews objected to. The "Hardball" host lamented that a "sophisticated" media is allowing the '08 contender's position on guns to fly "under the radar." When Scarborough protested that conservatives view gun rights as meaning more just hunting, Matthews dismissively replied, "You really believe the only thing protecting you from the federal government coming into your neighborhood with helicopters and seizing you is your guns?" He then condescendingly claimed that the Founding Fathers designed the Second Amendment only for fighting the British and added, "I hate to tell you that the United States government is our government now."
Good News on CBS: Illegal Immigrants Can Become Neurosurgeons
The segment began by Hartman actually admitting to the mainstream media’s usual doom and gloom reporting: "Because it never leads the news...because war and scandal and planet melting always make for catchier headlines...It's easy to forget all the good stories that happen every year." Hartman decided to focus on three "good" stories for a change, which included a brief profile of Dr. Alfredo Quinones-Hinojosa:
Dan Rather's Profanity-Laced Tirades and Self-Pity in New York Mag
The story’s headline is "Dan Rather’s Last Big Story Is Himself." As he described Rather’s "lower lip jutting out like an ornery fish resisting a hook," Hagan sympathetically recounted: Michelle Malkin attacks Mike Huckabee Again over immigration.Yes, bring him down Michelle. We do not need another GWB on the border. http://michellemalkin.com/2007/11/26/mike-huckabees-open-borders-record/ Want a pro-life, secure border kind of guy? May I suggest Duncan Hunter. Or maybe Tom Tancredo.
Media Scare on Flight Delays a Bunch of Hot Air This ThanksgivingRemember when you were a kid and all you had to do was cry "wolf" to get your parent or guardian to come to your aid? Well, apparently that doesn't work anymore. Thanksgiving air travel went well; in fact it went so well it prompted CNN anchor Rob Marciano to exclaim, "Maybe the media sufficiently scared everybody." CNN's "American Morning" and NBC's "Nightly News" reported the good news on Thanksgiving air travel, with CNN's Kiran Chetry saying it "wasn't so bad" and NBC's Amy Robach calling it a "relatively easy experience." But both broadcasts forgot an important detail: military air space opened up by President Bush along the East Coast. ABC's "World News Sunday" gave credit where credit was due - but left out a key point. "Those express lanes, allowing flights to detour through military air space along the East Coast, also worked," said ABC's Jeremy Hubbard, forgetting to mention that Bush had authorized the air traffic change. 'Fox and Friends' Discusses Wikipedia's Flaws
Apparently, Steve Doocy died in a car accident today, is 61, and a stripper. Brian Kilmeade has been dead for ten years. Perhaps his ghost now hosts "Fox and Friends." Several months ago, MRC President Brent Bozell warned of unreliability of Wikipedia. One internet user falsely claimed there is an ongoing feud between Bozell and famed media critic Bernard Goldberg. CNN’s Gorani: ‘A Middle East Peace Summit That Doesn’t Include Hamas!?’
Gorani asked the question 18 minutes into the 12 pm "Your World Today" program on Monday, which is simulcast on CNN. Gorani began the interview on a bit of a skeptical, even hostile note, and she acted as if she should be the one directing the negotiations. After her initial question and the answer from Pelletier, Gorani shot back with the following point. "You have two very weak leaders. The Palestinian isn't even representative of his entire population. Ehud Olmert is the least popular Israeli prime minister, practically, in history. George Bush won't be in office in 13 months' time. Why would anything come out of this?" Video clip (1:24): Real (2.28 MB) and Windows (2.58 MB), plus MP3 audio (652 kB). Tom Brokaw Trashes Rush Limbaugh, Talk Radio on Ingraham Show
Like many other journalists who instantly let conservatives know they haven’t listened to Rush Limbaugh, Brokaw insisted Limbaugh "doesn’t want to hear another point of view, except his." Ingraham disagreed. Brokaw added: "The problem with talk radio is they only want to hear one note...The problem with talk radio is they mock anyone else’s point of view, and they do it often in a mindless fashion." This is rich talk coming from a man whose network hired Bill Moyers as his newscast’s only commentator in 1995, and a man who wrote a syrupy tribute to hot liberal mock-jock Jon Stewart for his "Athenian" ideals in Time magazine. Audio clip (5:05): MP3 audio For the Military During the HolidaysJust wanted to put up a forum to give our NB Members to post their best wishes and any holiday related wishes for the Military here. Let me be the first to say I spent three Holiday seasons away from my family when I was in and it was the best thing in the world to get little things from people in the states. Letters, packages and emails all made it go by a little easier. If you have any sites or events that will help these great people that put their lives on the line for us everyday please post them. America Ranked Number One in Global Competitiveness, Media Mum
So, did you hear the United States was recently ranked by an independent, international economic think-tank as number one in global competitiveness? You didn't? Well, how could you, for according to LexisNexis, not one major American press outlet aside from Investor's Business Daily thought the announcement was important enough to share with the citizenry. I guess this would go too contrary to all the reports about a looming recession. Regardless, as we at NewsBusters love presenting to our readers that which media hide from you, the World Economic Forum announced October 31 (emphasis added, h/t NBer Parker1227): Seattle P-I: It's Not the High Taxes, Stupid
That's how the Seattle Post-Intelligencer website front page teased a November 26 story by state capitol correspondent Chris McGann. The bottom line is that the Democratic governor -- who eked out a narrow victory in 2004 after a drawn-out recount process -- has called the state legislature to convene on November 29 in a special session to address a court ruling that struck down I-747, a tax limitation measure that voters approved six years ago. McGann found a politicial scientist and a Democratic state legislative leader to suggest that voters are not really all that steamed about high taxes. By contrast, McGann produced just one man, Tim Eyman, to suggest voters in Washington State are fed up with high taxes. What's more, nowhere does McGann find any conservatives to suggest that Washington State voters might chafe at their legislators failing to do anything to address overreaching or judicial activism by the court that struck down a ballot initiative approved by the voters themselves. Here's an excerpt of McGann's article, with portions in bold reflecting my emphasis.: | |
