ArchivesMRC/NB's Bozell Launches Hillary Book Tour on 'Hannity & Colmes' Brent Bozell, President of the MRC which runs NewsBusters, appeared Monday night on FNC's Hannity & Colmes to discuss his new book published by Crown Forum, Whitewash: What the Media Won't Tell You About Hillary Clinton, But Conservatives Will. Sean Hannity called the book “timely,” hailed how he “loved” it and admired how it “weaves together a story about Hillary that the media won't tell.” Hannity and Alan Colmes also asked for Bozell's reaction to the low box office numbers for Robert Redford's anti-Iraq war movie, Lions for Lambs. Bozell suggested: “People don't want to go to a movie to see America's military trashed.”
Flashback: Laura Ingraham's Last Scrum on 'The View' Over HillaryLaura Ingraham was in a groove on Monday's "The View," spurring protest from Barbara Walters by asking if the talk-show gang there really wanted America to win in Iraq. (Walters protested probably not only for her colleagues on the chat show, but her colleagues at flag-pins-are-verboten ABC News). Video of the exchange is available here. On what I'm guessing was Ingraham's last appearance on "The View," on January 22, 2003, our Jessica Anderson captured how the radio host handled a cast of putative feminists who defined feminism as offering women the choice to have a completely elastic and plastic marriage for political gain:
WaPo Gives Convicted 'King of Torts' 1,500 Words to WhineThose wondering why circulation at the Washington Post has dropped over 15% in the past 2-1/2 years will get a large part of their answer at Sunday's Page B01 column by William Lerach ("Loser CEOs, Raking It In"; HT Rory Miller). That's Bill Lerach. Yes, THAT Bill Lerach. The self-styled, one-time "King of Torts," and former partner at the once-untouchable Milberg Weiss law firm. The now criminally convicted Bill Lerach. For those who are unfamiliar with the story of Bill Lerach and Milberg Weiss, here's a relatively quick synopsis, courtesy of a subscription-only editorial at the Wall Street Journal excerpted by yours truly in May 2006, when Milberg Weiss and two of its partners were indicted: Louisiana State Rep Uses Racial Slur- Media Neglects Party InformationIt's time for another edition of Name That Party! According to New Orleans WDSU Channel 6, a candidate for state representative, one Carla Blanchard Dartez, used a racial insult when speaking with the local NAACP president. But somehow the story on WDSU's website completely managed to avoid mentioning Dartez's party affiliation. Hint- she's not a Republican. According to the story posted by WDSU,
Plant-Gate Grows: Is Clinton Campaign Telling Truth About What Hillary Knew?
What did Hillary Clinton know about the planted question in Iowa and when did she know it? The Clinton campaign and apparently Clinton herself are denying she had any idea she was calling on a plant. But according to information in the New York Times, Clinton campaign aides had in fact prompted her to call on the plant. At 10:51 AM ET this morning, MSNBC anchor Tamron Hall interviewed Hillary campaign co-chair Tom Vilsack, the former Dem governor of Iowa.
View video here. Vilsack elaborated on his answer later in the interview. NYT Takes Out Kid Gloves for Soviet-era TraitorDoes the New York Times believe that anything detrimental to the well-being of the United States is to be celebrated? It would seem so. Whether the Times is betraying secret programs designed to protect America from Islamic terrorists or leading the charge for full access to American courts for alien enemies, their actions all seem intended to weaken America and strengthen America's enemies. This belief is on full display today with their loving portrayal of the life of Soviet spy George Koval, a trained Soviet agent who was responsible for the USSR's successful theft of the atomic bomb. As the Times writes,
Three cheers for King Juan Carlos of Spain. This is rich. During the Ibero-American summit in Chile, the ever hideous Hugo Chavez was slagging off Spain and called the former (and pro-American) Prime Minister José Maria Aznar a "fascist". The present Prime Minister of Spain Zapatero (normally a socialist weenie) showed some real grit and class by reminding Chavez that Aznar was a democratically elected leader and deserved some respect. Chavez interrupted Zapatero and continued on with his hissy fit and the King told him: "Why don't you shut up?" Then Daniel Ortega of Nicaragua and Carlos Lage of Cuba joined in on the attack on Spain at which time the King Juan Carlos walked out, making Chavez and the other two morons look like the vulgar totalitarian apes that they really are. So, three cheers for the King and a cheer for Zapatero. I apologize ahead of time for the link. I despise msnbc. Former Journalism Professor Fired for PlagiarismIs there a better example of what's wrong with the media today than a former journalism professor getting fired for plagiarism? I'm not sure whether to laugh or cry. As reported by the Associated Press Monday (emphasis added): 'The Early Show' Gives about 50 Cents' Worth of Weak Dollar StoryCBS Correspondent Anthony Mason would probably call it the not-so-almighty dollar, and he’d be correct if U.S. economic health was viewed only through the narrow lens of currency exchanges. “[T]he weak dollar is really wreaking havoc on investor confidence and in many ways, the impact is just beginning to be felt,” Mason said on CBS’s November 12 “The Early Show.” “The dollar, once the gold standard of currencies, is falling hard and fast around the world. At $1.46, the euro is up nearly 12 percent against the greenback. The yen traded at 110.38 per dollar, an 18-month high. And for the first time since 1976, the Canadian dollar has risen over 20 percent in value against the U.S. dollar at $1.06.” (Click here to see video.) But while the dollar is lagging, some experts think the dollar is undervalued. NYT Contributor Pushes Unsubstantiated Abortion/Crime LinkStephen J. Dubner, a best-selling author and a contributor to the New York Times (whose website hosts a blog "meant to keep the conversation going" about his book) would have his audience believe that abortions of "unwanted children" have led to the decrease in the violent crime rate. The Seattle Post-Intelligencer reported on November 11 that Dubner, a co-author of "Freakonomics," addressed the Washington (State) Policy Center’s small business conference luncheon on November 8 and mentioned this apparent abortion/crime link during his speech. The link is a claim that Dubner’s co-author, Steven Levitt, first made in a 2001 paper entitled "The Impact of Legalized Abortion on Crime." As Dubner put it during his speech, "Unwanted children are much more likely to become criminals. What happens, then, when your population pool has removed from it a big chunk of the unwanted children?" Dubner and Levitt devoted an entire chapter to the supposed abortion/crime connection in Chapter 4 of "Freakonomics." Global Warming Plot Thickens: Gore Joins Venture Capital Group
*****Update: Media Matters shill doesn't like this post, and is responded to at end of article. The financial scam involved in advancing climate alarmism got even more obvious Monday - to folks outside of the media, that is! - when Nobel Laureate Al Gore joined "Silicon Valley's most prestigious venture capital firm to guide investments that help combat global warming." As reported by the Associated Press (emphasis added, h/t NBer Wildcatter 1980): "Gore, who won the Nobel Peace Prize last month for his work on climate change, joins Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers as it and dozens of other venture firms expand into so-called ‘clean-tech' investments worldwide." Media that have continually ignored the financial aspects of this con will certainly not see the exquisitely delicious irony in the following announcement from the same article: CBS’s Schieffer: Limited Government Is ‘Anti’ Government
Hillary's Planted Question Scandal Recalls ABC's Friendly Forum
Co-anchor Robin Roberts, who hosted the March 26 event, spun it this way: "Somebody that was there, and wants to ask you what is different now, between what happened then, and he is Dr. Steve Eckstat. He is, he works at the free clinic of Iowa. Doctor?" Eckstat's challenging question to the Democratic front-runner? He wanted to know if the former First Lady would be "willing to try again to provide universal health care coverage for all Americans and make that at priority for your administration?"
In Stealth Battle of NYT Columnists, Brooks Sinks Krugman Over Racist Reagan ClaimTimes columnist David Brooks blew a hole into the left-wing myth of Ronald Reagan appealing to Southern racists to kick off his 1980 presidential campaign. What makes Brooks's Friday column doubly valuable -- it's a bank-shot sinking of fellow Times columnist and Republican-hater Paul Krugman. Brooks's "History and Calumny" defends then-candidate Ronald Reagan from leftists like Krugman who have long slurred his 1980 campaign kick-off in Philadelphia, Miss. as a racist appeal.
Whoopi Goldberg: America 'Not as Free as It Was'
The November 12 edition of "The View" featured noted conservative radio talk show host and best selling author of "Power to the People" Laura Ingraham. Ingraham put veteran journalist Barbara Walters on the defensive on the "do you want to win in Iraq" question. Most notably, though was Whoopi Goldberg’s assertion that America is "not as free" as it once was to Ingraham’s astonishment. Gooey Brian Williams: Mother Earth an Abused WomanIt might be highly predictable than the media elite would favor a green sheen on Time's Person of the Year debate, but Brian Williams has taken his "Mother Earth" campaign to a whole new level of goo on his Daily Nightly website:
Bartiromo Ignores Doom and Gloom Playbook and Says No RecessionIt’s a little odd when a reporter contradicts herself and discloses she doesn’t necessarily agree with what she’s reporting. But that’s what happened this morning when CNBC’s Maria Bartimoro appeared on the November 12 “Today” to report the chances of a recession. “Today” host Meredith Vieira asked Bartiromo if she thought the economy was heading into a recession after Bartiromo delivered a report about economic fears. “You know Meredith, I do not,” Bartiromo said. “My gut feeling tells me that we have strength around the world.
