ArchivesNewspapers falling for pre-fabbed rhetoric on RobertsFred Barbash at the Washington Post's Supreme Court nomination blog, shows how liberal letters-to-the-editor at various newspapers from around the country contain a stock talking point found on a MoveOn.org grassroots webpage. Media Silent on Violent Planned Parenthood Video Overwhelmingly, pro-lifers condemn violence against abortionists and their co-workers. However, it doesn't appear that feeling is mutual at Planned Parenthood Golden Gate (PPGG), who have posted an animated video that displays gross acts of brutality against those who wish to advance the messages of life and abstinence. In addition to its violence, the video also extends its own degree of tastelessness and disrespect. But, as they say, the silence in the mass media is deafening. [Note: The video was removed from PPGG's site this afternoon (Tue. Aug. 9, 2005).]
In the span of a few minutes, the Planned Parenthood video displays the following: How Radical Are NBC's Grannies? For more on the Raging Grannies that Brent "The Scourge of Media Bias" Baker posted, see additional lame leftist song lyrics here. The Grannies' official page at the Tucson chapter of the Women's International League for Peace and Freedom (even more lame lyrics) is here. Are they radical lefties? A look at their Spring newsletter shows they chant "Free Lori Berenson," who is an American leftist convicted of aiding a Marxist terrorist group in Peru. That's not so peaceful... Media coverage of Cindy SheehanWhile today's Cyber Alert details the media coverage the networks have given Cindy Sheehan---a California woman who lost her son in the war in Iraq last year---Sheehan's previously positive comments about her visit with President Bush last year has caught the attention of the Drudge Report and prompted a reprint by The Reporter newspaper of Vacaville, California, in order to clear up concerns by left-wing bloggers that Drudge simply lifted comments out of context to "smear" Sheehan. The newspaper's editor was concerned that comments were lifted out of context which presented Sheehan as having a very positive regard for President Bush last year: The New York Times Desperately Needs the 'Video Professor'Everyone has seen the ubiquitous ads run by the ‘Video Professor’ on all cable networks 24/7. The smiling bald guy introduces his ‘product’ with which anyone can learn anything about operating a computer. Then the ad cuts to the bewildered woman who says, “My three-year-old knows more about using a computer than I do.” The New York Times has just demonstrated that it is collectively dumber than a three-year-old, in an article on 9 April, 2005, entitled “One Mother in Crawford.” It is about Cindy Sheehan from Vacaville, California, whose son was killed in Iraq after he reenlisted and returned there. The article says: “Mr. Bush obviously failed to comfort Ms. Sheehan when he met with her and her family. More important, he has not helped the nation give fallen soldiers like Casey Sheehan the honor they deserve.... NYT's Elisabeth Bumiller Marks a Strange Anniversary in Terror WarIn her Monday White House Letter on Bush's long August vacations in Texas, White House reporter Elisabeth Bumiller remembers a very special anniversary -- one so special that, as Slate's Mickey Kaus notes, only she and a few anti-Bush bloggers remember it: "One reason for the activity might be the desire to be in purposeful motion on another anniversary of the now-infamous C.I.A. briefing that Mr. Bush received at the ranch on Aug. 6, 2001. That briefing, which informed the new president that the terrorist network Al Qaeda had maintained an active presence in the United States for years and could be preparing for hijackings here, created a political uproar when its contents were eventually made public." Kaus writes: "Maybe I'm out of touch with the American people, but what I've seen on several recent trips to the 7-11 leads me to doubt that that the anniversary of the August 6, 2001 PDB is on everyone's lips, or anyone's lips, outside of a few diligent anti-Bush bloggers. And even they seem to be on vacation! Is this really a salient memory that that the Bush PR operation needed to counter (as opposed to the general perception that Bush spends an awful lot of time on vacation)? Or is Bumiller so in tune with the fine points of anti-Bush culture that she has mistaken it for reality?" He goes on to say "it's as painful to read Bumiller trying to pretend to be chummily respectful of the Bushies while sniping passive-aggressively as it is to listen to...NPR anchors try to fake patriotic sincerity on July 4." The Times also filed several misleading stories about the briefing last year, exaggerating its specificity and significance. Read more about Bumiller's "strange anniversary" at timeswatch.org Networks Trumpet Cause of Bush-Hater Sheehan's Anti-War VigilThe broadcast networks and CNN on Monday morning trumpeted the vigil outside of President Bush's Texas ranch by a virulent Bush-hater, but didn't really fully convey her hatred. NBC's Katie Couric showcased her at the top of Today: “And a mother's vigil. Her son died in Iraq. Now this woman is camping outside the Bushes' Texas ranch and demanding a meeting with the President today, Monday, August 8th, 2005." On CBS's Early Show, news reader Julie Chen snidely played off of Bush's vacation: "President Bush may be on vacation in Crawford, Texas, but one mom wants to make sure he doesn't forget there's a war going on in Iraq.” On Saturday, CBS anchor Thalia Assuras had noted how “while President Bush has heralded the sacrifice of the fallen, his words were met with anger today.” That story featured Cindy Sheehan's accusation: “I'm never going to be able to enjoy another vacation because he killed my oldest son." Franken-whineMichelle Malkin reports that Al Franken is officially in whining mode on the Air America stealing-money-from-the-children scandal. He said he became an "involuntary investor" just weeks in by foregoing his paycheck. Congratulations, Al. Perhaps now you know how conservatives feel about being "involuntary investors" to another liberal radio network: NPR. NY Times Editorial - "One Mother in Crawford" Impeachment TourToday's NY Times' editorial covering Cindy Sheehan's "Impeachment Tour" from California to Crawford, Texas, where she hopes to meet again with President Bush for "a more substantive discussion" on the war in Iraq, described Ms. Sheehan's grievances: "Ms. Sheehan's 24-year-old son, Casey, was killed in Baghdad. She says she and her family met privately with Mr. Bush two months later, and she is sharply critical of how the president acted. He did not know her son's name, she says, acted as if the meeting was a party and called her "Mom" throughout, which she considered disrespectful." Today Show's Bad News BearsOn a slow news day when there's no solid gloom or doom to report on the national security or domestic economy fronts, why not run a couple segments on bad stuff that, well, might happen? That was the Today Show's apparent strategy this morning. First up was a piece on possible terrorist attacks on US shopping malls. A bleary-eyed Steve Emerson, Today's terrorism expert, looking like he had better things to do in Aspen, CO, went along for the ride with Katie Couric. Well into the segment, Today had to admit that there was no evidence that any attacks on shopping malls had been attempted or even planned. But that didn't stop the show from offering up a predictable array of security guards purposefully making their rounds, banks of closed-circuit security monitors, and two lame shopper-in-the-street interviews with a man and a woman who both confessed that they don't worry about security while shopping in malls. |
