ArchivesAP Distorts Republican Senator's RemarksOkay, so they call it a “Newsview,” which is, I guess, the AP’s way of sliming the administration under its supposedly unbiased banner and not being called on it. Sorry Tom Raum, you’re over the line on this one fella. In analyzing President Bush’s recess appointment of John Bolton to the U.N., Raum dredges up all of the same adjectives used by ‘objective’ AP reporter-types when it comes to the Bushies and Bolton. “In-your-face gesture,” “built-in handicaps,” “lame duck,” “streak of stubbornness,” “confrontational,” are just a few of the niceties that grace the prose of Mr. Raum’s tirade--fair enough when the piece is supposed to espouse an opinion. But in his commentary role, he could at least use quotes in context. Consider the following, especially the lack of an ellipsis: Helen Thomas's Kathleen Gingrich momentTen years ago, Connie Chung, then of CBS News, tricked then-Speaker Newt Gingrich's mother, Kathleen Gingrich, into revealing the 5-letter epithet that her son called Hillary Clinton, by assuring Mrs. Gingrich that the disclosure was "just between you and me." Somehow it's strangely enjoyable to find a liberal "journalist" in the Kathleen Gingrich role now as Helen Thomas's off-the-cuff remarks about becoming suicidal should Vice President Cheney announce his candidacy for the White House in 2008 being trumpeted on the Internet thanks to a prominent DrudgeReport link to the revelation as printed in a column by Thomas's friend,The Hill editor Albert Eisele. Dan Rather Stands by What He Won't Call "Memogate"Romenesko today posted a link to a SmarterMoney/Esquire "What I've Learned" first-hand recounting of thoughts from Dan Rather, such as this insight: "You trust your mother. But you cut the cards anyway." In the July 29-dated posting, Rather complained that "many of the people" who call his scandal "memogate" are doing "so for their own partisan and/or ideological purposes." Unlike with Watergate, "no crime was committed here" and he maintained: "The central facts in the story were correct, and they have not been denied. A pillar of support for the story has been called into question and remains in question. We don't know everything yet." Rather also claimed that "whatever mistakes" were made, "real or imagined, " they "were not born of political bias nor of prejudice." About NewsBusters.orgWelcome to NewsBusters, a project of the Media Research Center (MRC), the leader in documenting, exposing and neutralizing liberal media bias. In August of 2005, with the guidance of Matthew Sheffield and Greg Sheffield, the creators of RatherBiased.com, the MRC launched the NewsBusters blog to provide immediate exposure of liberal media bias, insightful analysis, constructive criticism and timely corrections to news media reporting. Taking advantage of the MRC's thorough and ongoing tracking of liberal media bias, including a wealth of documentation and an archive of newscast video dating back 18 years, we aim to have NewsBusters play a leading role in blog media criticism by becoming the clearinghouse for all evidence of liberal media bias by joining to this formidable information store the contributions of already-established netizens as well as those who want to join in the web revolution. |
