AP Shills for Michael SchiavoMonths after her death, the Associated Press has reopened the tragic story of Terri Schiavo, this time giving its huge audience the big news that her husband has launched a Political Action Committee:
In rehashing the story, the AP continues just as it left off, lying. Terri Schiavo was no more on “life support” than is an infant child who cannot feed itself. But just to keep the ball rolling--in an AP-ish sort of way--they couldn’t resist jabbing you know who: Who Are ABC's Racism Witnesses? Possibly Leftist, Even A Black Panther
A woman by the name of Doreen Keeler is listed as a plaintiff for the Center for Reproductive Rights fighting a "Choose Life" license plate in Louisiana since that apparently "infringes on free speech rights" (or at least upsets abortion advocates). That might match, considering Keeler is listed in today's New Orleans Times-Picayune as an AIDS activist "who works for the NO/AIDS Task force in New Orleans and manages the Louisiana HIV/AIDS hotline." Might someone with socially liberal views be especially supportive of suggesting the Bush administration response was inadequate? Barbra Streisand Cancels Her Los Angeles Times Subscription
PR Industry Media Takes Swipe at AFA Over Ford Decision to Pull Ads from Gay PublicationsIt's not just the MSM that hates conservatives. Trade publications covering PR, advertising and marketing love to show their contempt as well. In today's version of the Daily Dog, a daily e-mail newsletter covering the PR industry from the Infocom Group, is a story on how Ford "caved" to the American Family Association threat of a boycott because of ads running in gay publications. The headline calls action "catastrophic PR faux pas", while writer doesn't hold back on the bias stating "(Ford spokesman Mike) Moran didn’t provide many details about its agreement with the AFA, although the assumption has to be that in upcoming Ku Klux Klan parades, the participants will all be driving brand new white Ford Tauruses." Media Still Have the PowerFred Barnes writes in the Weekly Standard that despite the huge growth of the alternative media, including bloggers and talk radio, the mainstream media is still in charge as it remains able to determine the country's "conventional wisdom."
25 Years Late, CBS Says Ketchup Is Good for YouIf you’re old enough, you may remember the howls of media protest in the fall of 1981 over a never-adopted bureaucratic rule that would classify ketchup as a vegetable for purposes of calculating the nutritional value of a school lunch. Liberals went into campaign mode, holding up the proposed change as somehow symbolic of the Reagan administration’s lack of concern for the poor. The October 2, 1981 New York Times provides a window into the media mindset of the time, with a reporter posing this question to President Reagan at a press conference the day before: “The style of your Administration is being called millionaires on parade. Do you feel that you are being sensitive enough to the symbolism of Republican mink coats, limousines, thousand-dollar-a-plate china at the White House, when ghetto kids are being told they can eat ketchup as a vegetable?” Sadly, the identity of the person who posed this particular question was not reported in the Times, but this was a spin heard in various forms throughout the media landscape in the early 1980s. Media Downplay Extremely Strong November Jobs ReportA recent report published by the Gallup Organization stated:
Regardless of continuously strong economic reports, such bearish assessments have been regularly portrayed by public opinion polls for several years. During this period, economists and politicians – including the Bush administration – have wondered what is responsible for this disconnect between perception and reality. A detailed look at how unemployment numbers are shared with the public by mainstream media outlets gives us some clues. The Labor Department on Friday announced very strong employment gains for the month of November. In fact, this was the largest number of job creations since April. However, this news was reported to the public in a fashion that largely downplayed its significance. A 3.2 percent annual increase in wages was characterized as employees “basically treading water.” Although energy prices have been steadily declining since September, jobs market stories included references of this still being a “huge concern.” Other news accounts referred to the unemployment rate being “stuck at 5 percent,” as if a 5 percent unemployment rate is a bad thing, while one cable news outlet told viewers to take the numbers “with a grain of salt.” The Sins of the Fathers? NYT Tars Mel Gibson With His Dad's Extremist ViewsThe New York Times just can't forgive Mel Gibson for making "Passion of the Christ." Editor-columnist Frank Rich assailed it, most amusingly when he predicted it would be "a flop in America" and rather appallingly when he called it "a joy ride for sadomasochists" and accused Gibson of anti-Semitism. Wednesday's paper dredges up the anti-Semitic charge in a front-page business-section story by David Halbfinger promoted on the "Inside Box" on the front page with this heavy language:
Lauer & McCaffrey: Bring Us the Head of Donald Rumsfeld!
Lauer began the assault by using yesterday's release of a videotape featuring Al-Qaida deputy leader Ayman al-Zawahiri to promote the notion of bad US troop morale. Lauer noted that Zawahiri was looking relaxed, answering questions, not bothering to be armed, and asked NBC employee, retired Gen. Barry McCaffrey, whether seeing such a tape motivated or frustrated the troops. When McCaffrey didn't respond with a negative assessment of troop morale, Lauer tried another tack to produce the desired result: Pen Guns, Ignorance, and the National Firearms Actvia USA Today: Pen gun accident kills budding rap singer Public Remains Deeply Skeptical of Politicians, PressThe American people continue to maintain skeptical attitudes toward the press and politicians according to a recent survey:

Corrupt Priest Shelters Pedophile on 'Boston Legal'Recently I wrote about Law & Order's not-so-subtle agenda on the immigration issue. Now cometh ABC's Boston Legal, a show known for both entertaining and pushing the envelope. Let's start with a portion of the show synopsis on the ABC website:
After this, things get pretty crazy. The firm lawyers present a phony warrant, which they are not authorized to administer even if it was valid. When the priest locks his office door in defiance of the warrant and to protect the confessional seal, Denise "breaks the glass" and convinces Brad to threaten to break down the exceedingly expensive Italian office door with a fire axe. Brad accidentally chops off three of the priest's fingers in the process. |
