Musician James Taylor: 'I Really Suffered' Under 8 Years of 'Cheney/Bush'

By Ryan Robertson | December 10, 2012 | 13:29

A  A

Musician James Taylor may not be at the peak of his career anymore, but he's still doing quite well for himself. Taylor's estimated net worth is around $60 million. Nevertheless, as a featured speaker at a National Press Club luncheon on Friday, the liberal musician used the platform to bash George W. Bush, who's been out of office for nearly four years now.

While the subject was supposed to be on election reform, the veteran singer-songwriter held forth on how he amped up his political activism because he was "really suffering" during the "Cheney/Bush" years, Liz Harrington of our sister site CNSNews.com reported on Friday.

US News & World Report Cites Record Number Food Stamp Recipients: Wonders if They're Getting Enough for Survival

By Ryan Robertson | November 21, 2012 | 13:41

A  A

This Thanksgiving, a record high of 42.2 million Americans will use food stamps to curtail the cost of a big meal. At a whopping expense of $72 billion to the taxpayer per year, according to the Congressional Budget Office. The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) has grown by 70 percent since 2007, an increase of over 15 million more people.

Despite acknowledging all of this, Elizabeth Flock of US News & World Report declared "More Americans will use food stamps to buy their Thanksgiving dinner this year than ever before," and implied these government handouts aren't as sufficient as they could be.

Foreign Officials Bewildered That Many U.S. States Don't Check for ID at the Polls; Where's the Media?

By Ryan Robertson | November 09, 2012 | 17:03

A  A

As part of a program run by the International Foundation for Electoral Systems, representatives of over 60 emerging democracies from around the world were sent to the observe and report on how the election works in this country.

What they saw left them concerned at worst and puzzled at best at the way American elections are run, leaving gaping-wide holes through which voter fraud can be committed. The Foreign Policy Cable's Josh Rogin conducted interviews with some of them for his report.

Broadcast Media Outlets Continue to Ignore Obama's Campaign Financing Scandal

By Ryan Robertson | October 25, 2012 | 22:50

A  A

While President Obama's record-breaking pace to raising a total of $1 billion earlier this month received significant media attention, there was little if any curiosity among the traditional press about how he was on track to achieve such an unprecedented milestone in presidential fundraising. The broadcast networks in particular have not bothered to mention the growing scandal that is being scrupulously pieced together by alternative media outlets.

An independently-owned website Obama.com (redirects to official site here) has been suspected of accepting millions of dollars worth of illegal foreign donations for months now. Despite all the speculation and accusations coming from a nonprofit organization known as the Government Accountability Institute (GAI), no action had been taken until recently.

MRC's Tim Graham Makes Weekend Appearance on C-SPAN: Engages in Media Bias Debate

By Ryan Robertson | October 01, 2012 | 12:49

A  A

MRC director of media analysis Tim Graham appeared on C-SPAN's Washington Journal on Saturday morning to discuss the letter  MRC president Brent Bozell and more than 20 other conservative leaders and media personalities wrote to executives of ABC News, CBS News, CNN and NBC News.

"I would simply say we have a news media that doesn't hold the Obama Administration accountable. It's trying to destroy the Mitt Romney presidential campaign," Graham said. "That is not what ‘objective’ news media does." (See video and transcript below, MP3 audio available here).

CNNMoney Supports Absurd Alternative Energy Funding Demands

By Ryan Robertson | June 12, 2012 | 15:11

A  A

CNNMoney mustn’t pay very well, because writer Steve Hargreaves is moonlighting as a PR flack for the International Energy Agency. At least, that’s the impression given by his June 12 article on the IEA’s 700-page "sharply-worded" report that called for an additional $36 trillion of clean energy investment by 2050.

According to Hargreaves, IEA Executive Director Maria van der Hoeven doesn’t think governments are doing enough to keep global warming in check. “Our ongoing failure to realize the full potential of clean energy technology is alarming,” she said. “Under current policies, both energy demand and emissions are likely to double by 2050.”

A massive, notoriously scandal-ridden abortion provider is operating in Los Angeles high schools? What could go wrong?

Anna Gorman, writing for the Los Angeles Times on June 5, gave a glowing report of a highly controversial move:  the nation’s largest abortion provider has been put in charge of a public high school’s health care.

NYT's Anti-Israel Reporter Blames 'Right-Wing' U.S. for Palestinian Woes

By Clay Waters | September 21, 2011 | 14:00

A  A

New York Times Middle East reporter Neil MacFarquhar brought his usual anti-Israel slant to his Monday New York Times story on the Palestinians seeking United Nations membership: “Palestinians Turn To U.N., Where Partition Began.”

The Palestinians see the membership application as a last-ditch attempt to preserve the two-state solution in the face of ever-encroaching Israeli settlements, as well as a desperate move to shake up the negotiations that they feel have achieved little after 20 years of American oversight. The question is whether trying to bring the intractable problem back to its international roots will somehow provide the needed jolt to get negotiations moving again.

Get the Latest NewsBusted Episode Automatically Posted to Your Site

By NB Staff | March 22, 2011 | 14:29

A  A

Readers may have noticed a slight change on the site. We've switched out the old Eyeblast video player for a YouTube player, which should function more smoothly than the old one. You've probably noticed the delay in new episodes showing up on the homepage. That will no longer be a problem.

Some other big news regarding 'Busted: with this new player, you can now embed your own NewsBusted widget on your website. It will function exactly like the one you see on the NB homepage, displaying the latest NewsBusted episode right on your blog or homepage. Just copy and paste the code below the break to embed the player.

The New NewsBusters: Coming Down the Home Stretch

By Brent Bozell | September 14, 2010 | 12:24

A  A

We're making some great progress in our effort upgrade and improve the NewsBusters site. We've exceeded two thirds of our $30,000 goal. I'll tell you what: if we can reach $25,000 today, these annoying donation requests will end - at least for a while!

Make sure you take a look at all of the great features we will be putting in place. It's really going to improve the quality of the product NewsBusters delivers daily. We're even putting a whole new blog, NB Extra, in motion!

Remember, all donations are tax deductible, and the more you give to us, the less the liberal establishment can get its hands on. Please click here to contribute, or here to donate via PayPal (make sure you type "NewsBusters" in the Description field).

This new site will dramatically improve NewsBusters's ability to affect the national political discourse and to continue exposing media bias wherever it lurks. Thank you all for your help in this critical mission.

NewsBusted's Jodi Miller: Please Help Support NB

By Brent Bozell | September 03, 2010 | 10:39

A  A
Are you a "NewsBusted" fan? You ARE? Wonderful! Then you probably know our friend Jodi Miller. Jodi has one simple request to make: please make a generous tax-deductible contribution to NewsBusters so we can upgrade and improve the site to meet record-breaking demand.

With help from Jodi and all of you, NewsBusters has become one of the most prominent center-right blogs on the Web. Give yourself a pat on the back for that one.

But we know we can do more. There's still plenty media bias to be exposed and combatted. Click here to see changes we're making to the homepage, and then here to contribute to NB. You can also donate via PayPal (just make sure to put "NewsBusters" in the description field).

You can see Jodi's special announcement on the right sidebar. Thanks in advance for your generosity!

Improving NewsBusters, With Your Help

As part of our five-year anniversary celebration, we're planning to roll out a brand new version of the NewsBusters site. It's been in the works for several months now, and thanks to the hard work and dedication of all those involved, we are almost ready to unveil it. Almost.

This upgrade has been expensive, as any project of this size is. And though we do occasionally ask our readers for donations, this is one instance in which it really cannot be done without you. We've set a fundraising goal of $40,000, which should cover all bases. We know our faithful readership can help us reach that and more.

To contribute, click here and be sure to be sure to choose “NewsBusters” from the “Program Designation” drop-down menu so your help is properly credited. If you prefer to contribute via PayPal, make sure you enter “NewsBusters” in the “Description” field at the top of the page so your donation goes to the right place.

Some of the highlights of the new design, to give everyone an idea of some of the new features we're implementing.

Click on the above image for a full-page preview of the new design for the NewsBusters homepage (note: the final design will look a little different). Read on for a description of how things are going to work.

The most significant change is the addition of a new blog, NB Extra. Here NewsBusters bloggers will weigh in on a variety of topics that don't necessarily pertain to media bias. Don't worry - we're still completely devoted to our original mission of exposing, documenting, and neutralizing liberal bias in the press. NB Extra will be a place to go for breaking news and witty commentary, but our passion remains exposing purportedly-"objective" news for the sham that it is.

Below NB Extra, you'll see a new block titled "NB Columns". We'll now be featuring columns from some of the hottest names in conservative commentary. These include Michelle Malkin, Cal Thomas, Thomas Sowell, and many others. We're very excited to be featuring these folks' work.

Over on the right side of the page, you'll notice a few changes. At the very top, as usual, is our NewsBusted video block. We've added some tabs at the top so you can also see videos from the Media Research Center's other sites, such as CNS News. Make sure you check out some of their hard-hitting multimedia work. You'll also notice that you can scroll through all recent videos at the bottom of the block.

Scroll down on the right side and you'll see a block devoted entirely to the work of our talented political cartoonists. We'll feature one cartoon per day, but you can always click on the link to see more, and check out each cartoonist's archive.

Moving up to the top of the page, you'll see our top headlines are a bit different. Whereas we had only three static blocks in our last design, you can now scroll to the left or right through up to nine of the day's lead stories.

Speaking of lead stories, you've surely noticed by now that the story at the top of our left column is far more prominent than the ones below. Given that very often one or two stories dominate the headlines each day, we felt it was important to prominently display NB's take on the hot topic of the moment.

Other prominent or much-discussed topics will appear in the "hot topics" bar just below the top headlines. We'll display links to our topics pages there for the 5 most-discussed topics of the day, so you can navigate right to our takes on those topics.

NB will also be integrating with its sister sites to a greater degree in order to provide users with a greater wealth of content. For example, stories from CNS News will appear in this widget, just below NB Extra in the center column.

In addition to the new homepage, we'll also be creating a mobile site that will make NewsBusters much more easily-viewable and user-friendly on smartphones and mobile web.

We hope you enjoy these new features, and that the new design makes your NewsBusters reading experience even more enjoyable. please don't hestitate to ask if you have any questions, and make sure to point out any bugs if you see them. We've tried to listen to feedback from readers about the site design and make it easier to find the content. The site should also be faster as well as we're doing the site in a fresh install of our Drupal database software.

Let me say again that these features and the new design cannot be implemented without your help. Making major improvements to sites costs money. Unlike other political sites NewsBusters can't take campaign ads so that means we need to rely on you, our loyal readers, to help us in our efforts to improve things. We've reached similar fundraising objectives before, and I know we can do it again.

Please click here to make a tax-deductible donation (be sure to choose "NewsBusters" in the "Program Designation" drop down), or you can donate via PayPal. Make sure you enter "NewsBusters" in the "Description" field at the top of the page so the donation goes to the right place.

Thanks for your continued support. We look forward to further improvements and five more years of media bias-fighting excellence.

NewsBusters Associate Editor Noel Sheppard on Glenn Beck Radio Show

By NB Staff | March 26, 2010 | 14:58

A  A

NewsBusters associate editor Noel Sheppard was a guest on Glenn Beck's radio program today to discuss liberal MSNBC pundit and radio host Ed Schultz.

Noel and Glenn covered a few NewsBusters posts on Schultz's more outlandish statements, including his lamentation that he could not cheat in the Massachusetts special election that landed Scott Brown in Washington, his use of former vice president Dick Cheney's heart attack to push Democrats' health care overhaul, and his claim that "Republicans want to see you dead!"

Make sure to check out the full audio below the fold provided by our friends at The Right Scoop. Congrats to Noel, and thanks to Glenn for having him.

MRC Pres. and NewsBusters Pub. Bozell Comments on Media's Assaults on Palin

By Brent Bozell | September 02, 2008 | 13:23

A  A
What a disgraceful display of media malice in response to the Gov. Palin announcement. The Governor is a remarkable, genteel and upstanding woman, yet the press went right into the gutter in response to Sen. McCain's selection of her to be Vice President.

These alleged journalists are again demonstrating what utter charlatans they are. Every day they lecture conservatives about ‘mean-spirited' politics, yet they spent the entire Labor Day weekend using Gov. Palin's new born son's condition to try to score cheap and shoddy Democratic campaign points. And continued right on doing so when the Palin family announced that their oldest daughter Bristol was pregnant.

These are not reporters, these are hypocritical left-wing advocates using their First Amendment rights as clubs to bludgeon and abuse this fine woman with the lowliest attacks they can drum up.

The line between the liberal media and the Democratic Party has now been crossed so many times it is no longer blurred, it is obliterated.

Announcing ‘NewsBusted’ Comedy Webcast

By Matthew Sheffield | September 12, 2007 | 10:09

A  A

Here at NewsBusters, we try to stay on the cutting edge of both media and technology, which is why I'm pleased to announce the addition of “NewsBusted,” a comedy show we're releasing today. You can watch the video now over on the top right of this page.

The idea for the show is really quite simple. Politics is absurd, so is the news. Why not have some laughs from it all?

“NewsBusted” will air twice weekly and be available on every NB page as well as on YouTube. We also are taking joke submissions from readers. If we like your joke, we'll pay you $50 and use it in a future show. Send jokes along with name, email, and phone number to rightstuffcomedy@yahoo.com.

PS: If you are trying to get into the NB live chat, click the "chats" link at the top of this page.

New Osama Tape: Was It Fake?

By John Stephenson | September 09, 2007 | 17:31

A  A

There has been a lot of talk in the blogosphere about Osama’s beard. Was it fake? Was it dyed?

There has also been a lot of discussion about the politics in the video. Some suggesting they sound a lot like the American left.

There are a lot of oddities that open up questions on the authenticity of the latest Al Qaeda propaganda. Michael Leeden, at the Corner, ponders whether this was really Osama with many good points. Another significant find was pointed out by the leftist site, Booman Tribune.

"Osama Bin Laden’s widely publicized video address to the American people has a peculiarity that casts serious doubt on its authenticity: the video freezes at about 1 minute and 36 seconds, and motion only resumes again at 12:30. The video then freezes again at 14:02 remains frozen until the end. All references to current events, such as the 62nd anniversary of the U.S. atomic bombing of Japan, and Sarkozy and Brown being the leaders of France and the UK, respectively, occur when the video is frozen! The words spoken when the video is in motion contain no references to contemporary events and could have been (and likely were) made before the U.S. invasion of Iraq."

CBS’s Cynthia Bowers: I Can’t Believe Adjustable Rate Mortgages…Adjusted!!!

By Stuart James | August 17, 2007 | 14:10

A  A

In a recent blog post by CBS Evening News correspondent Cynthia Bowers we find that she has had some problems with the housing market herself. Bowers apparently didn’t grasp the fact that her Adjustable Rate Mortgage (ARM) can actually adjust:

“For a while we were okay. Then that Fed rate started going up, and so did our ARM. Over a five-month period it increased the cost of our monthly mortgage by nearly 40%!” Bowers wrote.

But Bowers shouldn’t have been surprised about her rate adjustment. According to Nexis, Cynthia Bowers has been reporting on the mortgage and housing market since at least 1997. With a decade of industry reporting under her belt, you’d think she’d be able to anticipate the fact that rates shift and payments adjust.
